I don't like anime much, but once in a while some not-so-awful animes come out.

Last ones I managed to enjoy were Claymore and Seirei No Moribito. Also watched Exile which was alright.

So any recommendations? Thanks.

Check out older series like GTO, Love Hina ,Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, any Miyazaki film, etc

I hate new anime so I can't recommend newer titles.

Seems to me there are more than a few threads on this forum that should help you out. Also, you can try looking around on Anidb. Quite helpful and you can search by category and sort by ranking.

The main ones from my perspective (off hand) would be Cowboy Bebop, Baccano!, Sword of the Strangers, the Ghost in the Shell TV series', Gankutsuou, Black Lagoon, Kenshin OVAs, Macross Zero, Karas, FLCL , Studio Gihbli movies etc.

There's definitely some gems released over the last dozen years or so.

Cheers

Well, people already recommended some of the ones I would.
Planetes is what I'm currently(and almost finish) watching and I enjoy it very much. I really recommend this one.

How about "DUAL!"

It was a short series at only 13 episodes I think, and had a pretty good English dub to boot.

Texhnolyze

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll probably find at least one decent thing in there.

Already watched GitS. Liked the movie, the show a bit less.

Did you ever watch Cowboy Bebop? Or just the movie?

The movie's fun, but the show's a lot better.

Mushishi
Hajime no Ippo
The Twelve Kingdoms
Karas
Monster

Edit: Alright, I'm going out on a limb and throw out some names.

Its 26 episodes comprise a complete storyline: the series, set in 2071, follows the misadventures and tragedies of a group of bounty hunters, or "cowboys", traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop.

Episodes are called "sessions", each episode follows a different musical theme, and episode titles are borrowed from notable album or song names (i.e. "Sympathy for the Devil", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Honky Tonk Women", "My Funny Valentine") or make use of a genre name ("Mushroom Samba", "Heavy Metal Queen").

Start of the first episode, Asteroid Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28SuSHcKM6Q

Gives you an idea of what to expect. I think it really picks up with Ballad of Fallen Angels, the fifth episode (which, honestly, is one of the show's best episodes).

Some episodes are serious, some are a little goofy, but all of them maintain a certain coolness. The English dub is really good (though I rarely care about sub vs. dub anyway), and the music is fantastic. I really can't recommend it enough. It's the best anime I've seen and one of the best television shows of the 90s.

This. I don't know why we get these anime suggestion threads every week, when Ghost in the Shell is usually the answer to all of them.

What happened in the ending of the Death Note manga? Was it completely different from the anime?
Light was made into more of a pathetic little bitch, but it's almost the same exact thing.

I like GITS, but the Tachikomas really hurt the overall show.

I didn't mind them, and haven't met anyone in person that did. Did you watch it dubbed or in Japanese? I thought the english Tachikoma were less annoying.

I very rarely watch subbed anime (but I don't mind either way). I'm actually a little surprised the Japanese Tachikomas were somehow more obnoxious.

2nd Gig was pretty good though. It's probably my favorite GitS-related anything (out of the first movie and the two seasons).

Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell SAC, 2nd GIG etc
Planetes
FLCL
Evangelion
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Denno Coil
Gunbuster
Monster
Kino's Journey
Mononoke
Kaiba
Haibane Renmei
Millenium Actress
Diary of Tortov Roddle
Kemonozume
Mind Game

ctrl+F: Kaiji not found.

Dude, Kaiji. It's not very well-known outside of Japan, but it's the most popular series among adult males in Japan. It's basically about high-stakes Rock Paper Scissors, but it's a really cerebral, well-directed show.

Everyone should watch it. Friggin everyone.
