Sons of Anarchy is back for Season 2 starting Tuesday, September 8th at 10pm on FX. Most of GAF hasn't picked up on this show yet, but it's an underwatched gem that deserves a bit more attention. Created by Kurt Sutter (The Shield), the show has been compared to The Shield and The Sopranos, as well as being described as "Hamlet on a Harley." Season 2 continues the story of SAMCRO as pressures from rival gangs, the Feds, and old wounds threaten to tear the club apart. With high calibre acting, dark humor, and enough sex, violence, and profanity to earn a big fat red light from the folks at the PTC, this is tv for adults.

Summary
FX's original series, Sons of Anarchy, is an adrenalized drama with darkly comedic undertones that explores a notorious outlaw motorcycle club's (MC) desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple, sheltered town of Charming, California remains exactly that, Charming. The MC must confront threats from drug dealers, corporate developers, and overzealous law officers. Behind the MC's familial lifestyle and legally thriving automotive shop is a ruthless and illegally thriving arms business. The seduction of money, power, and blood.

Jackson 'Jax' Teller (Charlie Hunnam) is the MC's vice-president, whose loyalty to the club is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness; Gemma Teller Morrow (Katey Sagal) is Jax's force-of-nature mother; and Clarence 'Clay' Morrow (Ron Perlman) is Jax's stepfather and MC president. The triangle of Mother, Son, and Stepfather will ultimately reveal the dark secrets in this family's past and the lengths they will go to protect their sins.

This season
Jax and the club deal with the fallout from Donna's death, bringing internal tensions to an all-time high while a new enemy takes root in Charming. LOAN, or League of American Nationalists, is a white separatist organization headed by Ethan Zobelle (Adam Arkin) with help from his lieutenant, AJ Weston (Henry Rollins). Zobelle, who opens a cigar shop on Main Street intent on ingratiating himself with the community and forcing SAMCRO out.

I'll post reviews when I see them.

Oh yeah, I forgot Henry Rollins was going to be cast in the second season.

This and Breaking Bad are the best thing going on basic cable.

Can't wait for this to hit the UK, though it'll no doubt be a while as the first season just ended a few weeks ago. Katey Sagal is still hot <3

This show is packed with so many great actors it is not even funny. Quality performances all around. By the time they offed

Henry Rollins seems like the perfect fit, too.
I'm not sure about his acting skills, but he totally looks like the part.

Edit: Maggie Siff is quite an incentive to watch this show, I swear.

Man, now I feel like I really need to grab the first season off of Amazon and rewatch every episode before the season starts back up. Such a great show!

Also I think I'm going to use Sons of Anarchy as the subject for one of my history papers this semester. :lol

I recently watched the first season on Blu-Ray. What a tremendous show. I'm really looking forward to the second season. Sad to say, but the commercials for this were the best part of the Rescue Me finale last night.

From Kurt Sutter's blog:
PREMIER NIGHT -- TUESDAY, 9/8/09, 10PM

So I'm gonna ask the readers of my blog to help spread the word. Sons of Anarchy season two, premiers in one week -- Tuesday, September 8th, 10pm on FX. I know in this digital age of DVRs, streaming downloads and iTunes, destination television is a dying event. But that number next Tuesday is an important number for the network and studio. All that advertising, marketing and promotional material you have seen around your town and on your TVs is pointed at that one night. A high number serves them in terms of advertisers and overall perception of the show. I couldn't have asked for a better campaign and marketing strategy. FX has done an amazing job. I'd love to see all that hard work pay off for them and the show.

My request is good old fashioned "word-of-mouth". Tell your friends, family, co-workers about the SOA premier next Tuesday. Help me get bodies in front of the tube. And if you know someone with a Nielsen box, I'll personally call them and invite them to watch. I'm not kidding, send me their number and I'll call them. I feel confident that the first episode of the new season will not disappoint.

I want to thank you in advance for your loyalty and support. I am constantly blown away by the enthusiasm and devotion of the SOA fans. I've never seen anything like it.

I love this show and I love its fans. Thank you.

looking forward to this.

i watched the first season as it was aired. at first i didnt love it, but kept watching. by the end of the season though it started getting really good.

here hoping season two turns out great.

CinemaBlend Review
From the first episode, Sons of Anarchy does not let you forget what you are watching: a world where the characters live with perpetual violence and pain. They are caught in a vicious cycle that offers little hope for salvation. But this struggle is what makes the show among the best television has to offer. It is gripping, moving, difficult and redeeming.

Fuck yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, can't wait for this! I really loved the last season.

Why do I want to recall that this dude died? I should rewatch...

I haven't watched this show yet (I plan to), but - Hey, they gave a job to Charlie Utter! Cool.
No worries, man. Utter's had work non-stop. He was in John From Cincinnati between Deadwood and Sons of Anarchy. :D

Why do I want to recall that this dude died? I should rewatch...
He's alive. They're replaying the last few episodes of S1 in the middle of the night on Sunday/Monday:
Sun. Sept. 6 12:30 AM FX Capybara #1.11
Sun. Sept. 6 1:30 AM FX The Sleep of Babies #1.12
Mon. Sept. 7 12:02 AM FX The Revelator #1.13
I just rewatched the one where Otto beats up Agent Stahl last night.

One of the great pleasures of this job is seeing a show evolve in the right direction.

"Sons of Anarchy" (9 p.m. Central Tuesday, FX; three and a half stars), a drama about a motorcycle club in northern California, spun its wheels a fair amount in its uneven first season. It was not at all clear that its rather callow lead character, up-and-coming biker Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), could carry this drama, which echoes everything from "Deadwood" to "Hamlet."

But in Season 2, "Sons" has stepped on the gas and gone from middling to engrossing. The pacing is better, the plotting is tighter and the supporting cast is full of gems. But fair warning: Seeing the way white supremacist A.J. Weston (Henry Rollins) glares at people with his scarily intense black eyes may scar your soul a little.

I've only caught a couple of episodes of this but from what I've watched, I know I'll like the show. Maybe it'll fill my "The Shield" void.

TV Squad with a preview of S2
The biggest surprises have been the show's meticulous complexity. It's more than just meatheads on muscled-up motorcycles crushing in skulls with their bare hands to the soundtrack of Motorhead on speed. It's an intricate web of versus battles and in-fighting: alliances vs. enemies, tradition vs. common sense, good vs. evil. And each episode redraws the lines and boundaries and requires multiple viewings just to keep them all straight in your head. Your TiVo will rack up a lot of overtime come Tuesday.

...

In short, it does what every great series should aspire for: grabs you from the beginning and never lets you go. It keeps you itching for action from episode to episode and sweating for unreserved plot points during the commercials. It's very complex and moves faster than most shows, but just pop a Ritalin, slap on a brain bucket and hold on for dear life. It's worth the ride.

Just watch the first season over the last couple days. By far and away one of my favorite first seasons of any TV series, and it has become my favorite show currently still on TV.

Review from the San Francisco Chronicle
Tim Goodman said:
Like all FX dramas, "Sons of Anarchy" caters to mature audiences with plenty of violence, sex and language issues at hand. But there's a can't-look-away element to Sutter's portrayal of this subculture (and there's a lot of humor in the show as well). As Sutter proved in the intriguing and original first season, there's plenty more riveting storytelling to tap into as "Sons of Anarchy" boldly comes of age.
Review from the NY Post
The NY Post said:
"Sons of Anarchy" fans won't be disappointed, and series newcomers will, I think, be riveted. The acting is terrific (by all concerned -- there's no weak link), the writing stays true to the spirit of the show and nothing feels forced.
That's the mark of a winner. I can't wait until next week's episode.

my dad is a biker and we recently started watching this show together, great show!! one of the few things we can agree with on TV. :D

Alan Sepinwall's S2 review
"Me fixing things doesn't happen quick or easy," Jax Teller warns a fellow motorcycle club member in the season two premiere of "Sons of Anarchy."

Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is talking about the mess from the end of the drama's first season, when club president Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman) put out a hit on a man who he mistakenly believed was a traitorous club member, and when the hit went awry and the man's wife was killed instead. But Jax could just as easily be talking about that debut season, which started off flawed and, through fits and starts, was fixed until it became one of the most gripping dramas on television.

...

When "Sons of Anarchy" debuted, I wasn't sure I wanted to see it last. But now that Sutter and company have finished the long and difficult task of fixing what wasn't working, I want to know everything it has to offer - even if some of those things may give me nightmares.

Watched most of S1 last year but missed the last couple of episodes. I'm really looking forward to getting caught up. It's a fantastic show.

Review from Collider.com
Collider said:
This season promises to be everything a second chapter should be: a leaner, meaner season with a greater sense of purpose that comes with experience. The writers (and show creator Kurt Sutter) understand their characters, and they trust the audience to know them as well. I watched the Season 2 episodes back to back, and now I don’t know what I’ll do for 6 weeks waiting for episode 6. If you’re a fan of the show, this season promises to be everything you could hope for and more, and if you’re not a fan, it’s never to late to join in.

Ohh, it's today? Can't wait!

Seriously excited for the return of SAMCRO! I'm not sure if I've ever been this hyped for a second season. :D

Tough to watch the ending. Looks like SAMCRO vs the League of American Nationalists is going to kick off sooner than I thought it would.

Acting was great as usual and Adam Arkin did a good job, though I thought Henry Rollins was doing better as a silent menace than when he tried to deliver lines. Good music tonight, too.

That was great. I get the feeling this season is gonna be amazing!

yeah, it was. the end was intense/brutal. less jax ass and more ladies ass though hopefully in future eps. :P

does seem like they will hang onto the jax split from clay till next season though, with the face off as this seasons conclusion. i think the club will have their hands full with the aryans and rollins.

oh, and...
2my1bag.jpg

is that a tattoo hidden below henry's neck? looks familiar...

Didn't seem like there was that much of an attempt by him to cover up his identity with the tattoo, the delivered message, and the way he called her ma'am again. Either really sloppy on his part or that was the intention.

Pretty good show.

Ill watch the second season probably , but that shootout in the first season was absolutely fucking pathetic.

It made me laugh. Thats not right.

Rollins looked like he was either going to start laughing or beat the shit out of someone. They didn't waste any time getting into the darker parts of the show.
