-F.A.Q.-

So, what are the changes from the original Persona to this version?

Well, for us non-Japan folk, we get the Snow Queen quest (not in the original release of Persona), new graphics, shorter load times, and some new gameplay things to use, like speeding up battles and being able to save almost anywhere. Gogo portables!

So will the localization be much better than the original one?

Of course! Atlus USA has come a long way since those days, and this one gets a good fixing compared to the release way back when. Don't worry, there won't be content missing or someone's race suddenly changing to another. To see some things relating to that, read the PS Blog post by Nich Maragos: Link

Wow! I loved Persona 3 and 4 I can't wait for--

Hold it! Before you jump in blindly, keep in mind that Persona 1 and 2 had some differences between the latter Persona games we've seen in the last couple years. Like, no social links! There's some noticeable differences, but remember to research so you don't expect one thing, then get something entirely different. Informed buyers are happy ones!

Why is the PSN release delayed / why does it cost the same as the UMD version?

We don't know these things, so let's not bring the thread much into posts and posts about that. It seems Sony wanted to delay the PSN release to coincide with the PSP Go launching and all that, but of course that's just my theory. Nothing is confirmed, so let's just worry about things like that if they're actually spoken about.

How's the difficulty?

I've seen some people say the encounter rate is a bit high sometimes, but generally, just take battles at a cool pace. Racing will probably get you killed. Also, Yawee has said that the difference between Easy / Hard difficulty is - / + 20% damage received, so it won't be too rough if you decide to take Hard at the onset. I never played the original, so find someone besides me to help you with that!

Does this game get a healthy dose of Atlus Spoils?

Yup yup! Each and every launch copy of the game comes with the full 2-Disc soundtrack. I loves me some Meguro, so that's pretty awesome.

I'm looking forward to this one! Never played it when it first came out, but I already have it preordered and I can't wait!

I can't wait to play some more Persona.

To me this will be an interesting experiment, as my first Persona was FES, so it might take a while to get used to the old-school first-person dungeon crawling.

In any case, I'll be playing this a lot.

Holding off to pick this up off PSN for my Go on Oct. 1st. Hard to wait on it, but I have plenty to tide me over (still working on MHF:U and now Wild Arms XF).

(great official thread, nice work!)

I'm stoked. And hopefully in a month or so after Persona has been in stores, Atlus will announce P3P being localized:P

I'm hyped more for the bonus OST than for the game itself, but that is simply because probably I wont be able to play the game unless I upgrade my CFW PSP.

Has anyone here gotten a copy early to review? Please tell me they didn't leave honorifics in the game, like "Persona" 3 and 4.

From all I saw in the Quick Look on Giantbomb, there's no honorifics.

Will get this (my first Atlus game), although I'm currently playing Bowser's Inside Story and Scribblenauts, so who knows when I'll get around to playing it.

Wasn't intending on getting this but that Shoji Meguro CD bonus calls the audiophile nut in me.

Here's some sweet arse fan-art (I think the artist was commissioned to do something with it Like a print or something?) for the psp game I found

I dunno, man, I still don't think they're going to announce it until after they announce Strange Journey for America.

I notice the guy in the yellow hat isn't black this time, so this is a 'true' localization, I assume, rather than the original which took some liberties.

Pre-to-the-ordered long ago!
Because the OP is perhaps slightly vague about it, it should be noted that the Snow Queen subplot was in the original PSOne JP game, but excised out of the US PSOne localization. One of the many blunders committed with that localization, sadly.

This one should easily be the "definitive" US release.

*facepalm* Don't bring that crap in here.

I wish Amazon was offering Release-Day delivery for this. :\

SHAMELESS PLUG!

Here's the review I did for the upcoming issue of Play. I'm plugging it not because you should all read my review (which, I mean, you should, and if you'd like to do so, it's up over on our website), but because I put a lot of work into making a layout design that complimented the new visual style Atlus gave the game for the PSP reworking. Even though most of the background elements ended up being kind of hidden in the end, I still think it turned out nice.

As far as reviews, a number are already up, so if you hit Metacritic you can link to some of them at this point (so long as you promise mine is one of the ones put in the OP).

That's really awesome. Thanks.

I like the running people at the bottom of that review layout thing, Shidoshi.

I had our artist do those for me. My initial thought was that I wanted silhouettes that were both a bit simpler and all were in the same pose, but what he put together turned out pretty nice so I went that direction instead.

Uh, the game is set in Japan. Why wouldn't they leave the Honorifics in? It fits the "English but really speaking Japanese" style.

It's like Big Boss in MGS3 speaking Russian/English.

If it bothers you that much, you're probably playing the wrong series (and should stick to the main SMT, though those may get honorifics later on).

So, is it confirmed that Persona PSP requires 5.55 or higher?

I'm sitting here waiting to buy Disgaea 2 and Persona PSP off PSN (through my PS3 since Sony haet CFW) and play them on my PSP (which has Policenauts/Persona 2 fan translations on it to play) and yet Sony doesn't want my money because they want a higher firmware. :|

*gives a pat on the back for encouragement*

Pretty sure it's confirmed. Some 5.55 games have been cracked. There's hope that Disgaea 2 might be next. Still, a 6.00 CFW can't be TOO far off.

QFT. P3 and P4 worked well using honorifics, so there's no need for Atlus to change.

Well, I can understand them being grating, but dropping them because you don't like them? Uh... no. They should leave them in to fit the Japanese school life/speaking style.

Change we did, though! Since P1 is a different type of game and has less emphasis on the ins and outs of Japanese life, a la the Raidou games and Devil Survivor, they're not used in this project.

Enjoy!

Artist is Miwa Shirow, creator of action manga Dogs. He also did illustrations for Devil Summoner and Devil Survivor. Here is Pixiv account.

Ok, so there we go. Let's stop discussing the honorifics since they're not used in this game.

Oh alright... just so long as they don't say "Yew". :D
I didn't actually mind all the country bumpkin-accent stuff in Devil Summoner 2, but I know some people did

Were the honorifics dropped on Devil Survivor partly for space reasons?

No, it was for the same reason they're not used on most Atlus games that aren't P3 and P4. Most of the time, they're not necessary, but we felt they added enough to that type of game that it was worth including them.

I cannot wait! Also bring P2 in full complete form.

I'll hope for a dual disc PSP release or something of both the Persona 2 games...one day...

Boo to them skipping over it for P3P

Wow, this snuck up on me. Just finishing up Dissidia, so perfect timing. Really looking forward to playing this finally, and at a reasonable price!
