Where to purchase?
Direct from Amanita for $17 pre-purchase, usually $20.
alternatively you can get it from Steam, Direct2Drive, GamersGate, Impulse.
seems there's a retail release in Europe which includes Samorost 2

The OP is cut off.
This is going to bug me every time I see the thread topic.

:(

On topic: COOL looking game. Damn.

Edit - FIXED YAY!

why did those big fat jerks beat up that poor little drummer? he was just hitting his drum. :(

they're probably guitarists or something

Why is this thread so barren? This looks to be one of the best adventure games (well one of the very few) to come out this year. Imaginative, atmospheric, good art, great soundtrack, creative puzzles, and nobody cares.

I pronounce this game Maw-ki-naw-ree-yum, like machinations. Am I doing it right?

(Also, can't wait to play this, but it'll have to wait a bit. UC2 and BL be taking up my time right now.)

I'd say mash-in-air-ee-yum, but

i) I'm British
ii) I pronounce the "chi" like it's in "machine", although if we're going with the original Greek then the hard ki would be more appropriate...

I really, REALLY want this, but it comes out on October 16th and in my family that's the day we officially stop buying things we might get for Christmas. I made my sister play the demo so I might get it :( I've loved and bought all the other Amanita Design games and really want to support them out the gate - GAF, buy copies on my behalf!

Incidentally, anyone else played Axel and Pixel that came out on XBLA yesterday? It's Samorost but with more polish and less charm.

I've pre ordered this and I'm enjoying the soundtrack preview at this very moment... I can't wait to play this adventure!

Edit: as for the pronunciation as the title suggests a latin root to the word I pronounce it like makina...

I played the demo and absolutely loved every aspect of it. Will be getting for sure.

I wanted to try it at PAX but some jerks were hogging the display for a couple of hours >:/ I know it's good but give other people a chance!

I didn't realize this was coming so soon. I just played the demo for about 30 seconds and then made my pre-purchase. Thanks for putting up the thread.. I would have totally missed the Steam discount!

I hope this goes down as 1 of the great post-implosion titles, especially given their consistent greatness.

I'm saving a weekend to really relax in the world.

Anyone else getting '403 Forbidden' errors while trying to download through the email links?

Well I started downloading it this morning and the best speed I could get was 30kbs then as time went on it just kept getting slower and ended up at 15kbs. I eventually got an error, but was able to resume and finish at 51kbs. (took me 6 hours to download - should have taken ~2)

I figure their servers are bad or getting hammered.

Yep, they're taking it a bit rough. The official forums were taken down to lessen the server load, but apparently Amanita is telling people that it may be until later this weekend until they get to download the game. It's awesome that so many people bought it from the main site to support the dev, but then this sort of thing happens.

These guys can go die for bundling the mp3 soundtrack only with the version sold on Amanita's site. I was under the impression that you'd still have to buy the soundtrack seperately or something. Like Shatter.

If it was actually made clear that the Steam version would come with nothing at all while the Amanita version would have the entire thing, I wouldn't have bought the stupid Steam release in the first place.

Samarost 1 & 2 are brilliant. So glad they were popular enough to get this guy working on full-on titles.

dur.. it doesn't say anywhere on the steam site it would include the soundtrack. seems pretty clear. it's a bonus for people that give them more money. so also seems completely fair.

It's fair if it's in writing on the goddamned official website. And when the game went up for pre-order, it wasn't. They only talked about a soundtrack PREVIEW for pre-orders.

Anyway, other developers manage to pack an mp3 soundtrack into their Steam release so why is this such a crazy suggestion?

I would have gladly purchased that version if I had known.

Thought the demo was really brilliant. I just cannot afford it right now, wish it was a bit cheaper. Really do, awesome little game.

writing? it says "+soundtrack" all over the place on their site store. it doesn't say soundtrack anywhere on steam, how is this hard?

It says that now. It didn't say that when the Steam pre-orders started. I pre-purchased from Steam on day one.

anyway, the '11' folder is all audio files. copy it somewhere else and rename to mp3s or whatever.

LOL, I was looking at that very folder when you posted that. Trying to use WinRar to decompress the files or something.

<3 Thanks very much <3

This is supposed to be the official thread, right? If so, use this, not the pre-order one.

Still, just got the game, played the 3 levels that was in the demo and 3 others.

Wow, I'm really impressed...

The puzzles are amazing, and there's always a way out if you're stuck, since there's a hint per level, and if it isn't enough, there's a unlockable walkthrough with a dumb mini-game :lol

Art, music and animations are all top notch. Incredible atmosphere all around.

Personal GOTY candidate, seriously. Don't miss this, guys, even if you're not a P&C fan.

Q: You favor puzzles that are based on trial-and-error experimentation. What are examples of puzzles from your own games that best illustrate this design philosophy? How do you answer your critics who claim good puzzles are those that can be solved by rational deduction alone without the need to fail first (either by death or by trial-and-error)?

A: I would agree with those critics. It's mostly true. In Machinarium, we are trying to come up with better and more logical puzzles where you can use deduction and still be amused by its originality. However, what is most important is that the puzzles shouldn't be repetitive and boring, so sometimes you can break all the rules and create something little different which will require some experimenting from the player.

The demo is the best thing Ive play on the pc front in years. I cant wait to get home tomorrow and dive into this. The visuals are great(not full 3D/realtime? Who gives a shit), the structure is tight, and the feeling is both taxing and rewarding. This isnt something that is relying on the infinite powers of the pc to hold itself up or paint a pretty coat over mechanically flawed gameplay. Machinarium entire back bone rests on its foundation of gameplay, and its one that will age better than anything I can think of at the moment on pc that has been released recently. The atmosphere, sound, visuals, and charming polish are all huge extras that help elevate the actual game even farther.

Genuine pc gaming is back in my life thanks to Machinarium.

I just finished it too. Ridiculously charming and awesome. Nice puzzles too. EXCEPT FOR THE GODDAMNED
CONNECT FIVE
GUY. Fuck that guy.

BTWBTW, I still had
those two drawers from that room with the butterfly and plants
at the end of the game. And I don't think I actually did anything with the
projector thing
in the same room. Did I miss something?

Is it more of a story based P&C or a puzzle based?

It looks so cool!

It's puzzle based, but there definitely is a story to it. Quite a charming one! :D

Just finished it myself, beautiful game throughout. About the last screen:
I ended up using the walkthrough; how are you supposed to know the note sequence? I don't see how C-A-E-F-C-E-F-C comes from 70:108 or anything else there.

That demo was awesome. Perfect length. I really want to get this.

Cant believe I almost missed this. P&C GAF needs to be all over this game.

Great game! Had to use the walkthrough once for the
stupid cat and bird
. Really charming characters and that without any speech. I'm hoping this sells well enough to warrant a sequel.
I'm sure it'll be better and bigger next time :)

There was a machine on the far with dial buttons to set x and y coördinates in the room with the sick 'master-robot'. If you put those coordinates to 70:108 you hear the 7 notes you need to play.

I just replayed the demo and noticed the idling animations for the first time. So awesome.

Just noticed the same thing today too. I put the game down for a bit and I when I got back to it there was a large thought bubble above the main character's head that had him and a girl robot enjoying some cake. After seeing that I just let it sit there and began watching them. There seems to be quite a few idle animation story bubbles.

I think they're working on Samarost III next, which I'm totally down for if they take what they learned from here and apply it to that series.
