help GAF, my house is on fire

Everything is moe to me
While IRCing i noticed a smell of smoke coming out of my heating vents, i live in a basement apartment and my upstairs landlords left a few days back. I didn't really think much of it... figured it was just the dust burning from the furnace kicking in.

then the upstairs smoke detector went off and I had to fight the urge to post on GAF, however cooler heads prevailed and i called the fire department.

Now im posting from the patio, it seems that a log re-caught after my landlords left and the exhaust vent is busted, the damage is largely smoke related. they have some sort of huge fan sitting in front of the door atm and the neighbours are out in full force.

so lets play the 'how to explain this to your landlord' game. :\
 
Ah internet, where the will to save ones own self is over-ridden by the impulse to tell others the danger one is in.

WAs it your landlord's log and your landlord's busted vent? If so, I don't see how you were to blame at all. They should thank you for saving their house.

i had to close the laptop between calling the fire department and the mad dash to get everything valuable out of my part of the house.

it was my first time in their part of the house, they have a better tv then me. :(

Yeah, I'm disappointed. I was hoping he was trapped some under debris while his house burned down around him, unable to do anything but post one last thread on GAF with his iPhone. That would be pretty intense.

He should have made a fake Twitter account posing as Professor Layton and given us a riddle about how to help him escape his burning apartment.
 
as said on IRC,

everyones gone now. looks like there shouldn't be any lasting damage, although if i wasn't here the smoke might have really done a number on the furniture. right now im guarding open doors as the house airs out.

I actually had to wave down a passing couple to get them to call for me as my cell phone was not charged. Interesting night, but i can smell the smoke everywhere and its alittle unnerving. weird, eh?

edit: i did get to meet some of my neighbours further down the road.
