Set against the backdrop of a fantasy football league, The League, FX's new original comedy, is about friendship, marriage, parenting, and growing up...or refusing to grow up.

Fantasy football provides an outlet for good-natured competition and camaraderie between friends and colleagues, but that's not always the case. Deception, trickeration, one-upmanship and a win-at-all costs mentality are prevalent in the world of fantasy football and it's no different in The League. The emotional tentacles of fantasy football extend to personal relationships, marriages and the workplace, all fertile ground for comedy.

he League, featuring an ensemble cast of rising actors/comedians, was created by the husband-and-wife team of Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Jackie Marcus Schaffer (Disturbia) who serve as executive producers. The pilot was directed by Jeff Schaffer. The series is produced by FX Productions.
1x01 The Draft
The League is starting up again and the guys are preparing for the big draft at Andre's downtown bachelor pad. Except Pete - the League's current champion and three time winner - who has to deal with the fact that his wife thought he wasn't going to play this year.

Anybody watched it? It was a pretty great pilot.

Looked funny, I'm not sure how they're going to keep it interesting though. I feel like this theme could get old quick.

Yep, felt the same way.

The pilot was funny as hell, but i'm gonna give it a few more episodes.

Yup, I saw it.

I though it was great. Laughed out loud a bunch of times. It was split pretty evenly between friendship stuff/relationship stuff/and fantasy football stuff.

It was definitely going for an Apatow vibe, not quite there yet though. Doesn't have that emotional core yet.

I keep watching for sure.

recorded it last night based on the promo's but haven't checked it out yet. Hopefully this weekend.

Haha, that was great.
The song was amazing, as soon as he started singing you could tell where it was leading :lol

I havent watched to new episode yet, but I liked the pilot. I think the concept is great. Alot of people make fun of us Avionics techs here at work, but I laugh myself to the point of pissing myself when they get all happy about drawing draft orders. I want to see a pic of unicorns, elfs, orcs, wizzards, and rangers all dressed in helmets and shoulder pads. Now that would be true fantasy football lol.

holy shit jon lajoie? Badass! Will have to watch

EDIT: God dammit, are full episodes not available online? Guess I won't be watching >:(

EDIT 2: Yay, found it

That was fucking awesome top to bottom. Much better than the Pilot.

Does anyone have any ratings info? I really hope this sticks around.

The premiere of FXÂ’s The League didnÂ’t crack a million, and retentionistas will likely be calling for its immediate cancellation on the grounds that it held less than 75 percent of ItÂ’s Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaÂ’s audience.
:(

Some other blog:

http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/10/fxs-the-league-could-use-more-members.html

FX points out that among men 18-34, which the network sells, "League" retained a stronger 87% of its lead in.
:D

I bet it sticks around. Last week it was up against the World Series, which couldn't have helped.

Actually, the ratings aren't that bad. Sunny's aren't all that, and this wasn't much lower. I guess it depends on how the rest of the episodes do (though they'll probably drop and level off). They really fucked up the advertising here.

Edit: And there you go.

This is the funniest show on tv this season I don't even really like football.

Yeah the humor has already run the complete gamut and is waaaaay out there, but it all just clicks with me.

I hope they have a Taco origin story some day.

Aww fuck.

They pimped the football stuff too much. This episode had barely any of it.

I'm SO glad they aren't focusing on that stuff. I hate sports obsession and I was worried the show would focus to heavily on that, I'm very happy it doesn't.

Love this show. It's hilarious.

I thought the premise of the show was ridiculous, but after watching found it to be excellent. Two reasons to watch FX now. It's Always Sunny rules all still.
