How is Phantom Brave for the Wii.

I'm looking to play a srpg and I noticed I can get this for cheap.

How is it?

The other Nippon games I've played are Disgaea 1 and 2 on the PSP.

How does this compare to those.

On the 2 Disgaea game its basically separated into 3 sections.

1. Main Game
2. Side quest and port + extras
3. Power levelling/item hunt fun.

How does this game compare to d1 and d2

Haven't played the Wii version, but I felt the PS2 version was great. I don't recall to much Side Quest stuff, but I want to say the main game is quite a bit longer then the Disgaea games, though its been about 5 years since I played it.

Power Leveling is still there. Not only can you be level 9999, your Weapon can level up too!

It's a lot of people's 4th least favorite, but it's my favorite. It's certainly worth 20 dollars. Check Eurogamer or Wikipedia for the differences.

If you like Disgaea, decent chance you'll like this. All the nis games are structured the same but with gimmick/innovations in each. This one has characters only allowed to be on the field for a certain number of turns which is pretty hit or miss but I didn't think it detracted too much from the game.

It's ok.

Small sprite graphics, with an option to filter them (don't).

Broken gameplay. I was struggling until a friend told me to abuse the optional item dungeon. It's either too hard or too easy.

Still pretty fun. Grabbing enemies and allies around to throw them across the board is great.

You can also toss them off the board in Phantom Brave, but doing so makes all other enemies still on the board level up.

I installed it, but never actually got around to playing it.
Much like my PS2 copy, actually.

Phantom Brave on PS2 is on the shortlist of Japanese SRPGs that I like. I can't say I've given Disgaea or FFTactics enough of a chance to say I dislike them, but I definitely didn't like Tactics Advance after giving it a decent number of hours to win me over.

I just recently started this game (funny, because I was thinking about making a LTTP thread :D ) and I am completely in love with the game. Pretty much my favorite SRPG (that includes Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, Advance Wars, Shining Force 2, etc). I love the deep and the seemingly endless possibilities to customize your characters and items/weapons.

The game is very addictive with a battle system that I'm in love with. You can create infinite random dungeons (if you have the money) that'll add not only incredible replay value, but also ways to level up and get all the good items and classes. Fuse weapons with other weapons, weapons with characters, or characters with characters to make them more powerful and also combine moves. Secret maps and characters (in which you need to be at least 1000-3000 to beat) and another mode (side story) in which is exclusive to the Wii version, if you love SRPGs, this is a must get title IMO. :D

I never could get into NI SRPGs. Disgaea in particular I've given about 15 chances to. Really, SRPGs have to be something really fantastic for me to spend a lot of time with. That being said, I enjoyed what I played of Phantom Brave but would recommend Soul Nomad more.
