______________________________________

Here we go folks! Keep in mind that there are likely to be other announcements/reveals at this event besides the much anticipated/debated/masterbated tablet device. Macbooks may be getting a revision. iPhone OS may be updated. iLife/iWork may be updated...

LovingStream should have the tablet specific thread ready to go just shortly after the conference.

Tune in Wednesday to see how it all goes down...and get some lube and popcorn ready for the show.

this is it.....the end of it...the time for Kindle, Sony E-Reader and Nook to become the Sandisks and Zune of the MP3 world

Thanks Rub!

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-01-25/apple-may-release-iphone-to-all-u-s-carriers-oppenheimer-says.html

By Mary Childs

Jan. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. may release the iPhone to all U.S. wireless carriers in the next 18 months, doubling or tripling the number of devices sold, said Tim Horan, a telecommunications analyst at Oppenheimer & Co.

T-Mobile USA Inc. will get the phone this summer, followed by Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. in the fall, and Clearwire Corp. in 2011, Horan wrote in a note yesterday. AT&T Inc. has been the exclusive carrier since the iPhone debuted in June 2007.

“We believe AT&T’s iPhone exclusivity arrangement with Apple will be expiring by mid-2010,” Horan wrote. “For wireless carriers, customers are demanding the device and they need to remain competitive.”

Any chance it'll be available soon after? Or is it expected to be a 6+ month wait for retail availability?

Er... I am assuming the iSlate is announced.

I've got my fingers crossed that I can just order the thing online and not have to wait in line like with the iPhone (all 3 times -- though the third time was much, much easier). Let me pre-order it Wednesday and I will gladly do that.

Very excited. Likelihood I will be buying whatever device they announce...98%.

I'm readdddddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please be able to annotate pdfs

I want to take this to class and read research papers on it.

Also my price point prediction is 500 to 600

So regarding the keynote not being live streamed... has this been like that always? They just do the keynote and upload a video afterwards?

Since, what, the early or mid-2000s they haven't been streaming events. Liveblogs will be where it's at. Unless you wanna stay completely virginal until Apple actually posts the video later in the day.

With the emphasis on paint splatter and creativity and apple of course knowing how well digital artists recieve their hardware this can't be anything less than an artists wet dream about to come true.... Imagine sitting on the park bench, snap a picture with the slate> straight to Photoshop for editing & upload it to your server all right there :)

Let's hope not. This is my biggest worry about Apple's tablet. It'll ruin the direction of eReaders.

Is this supposed to a graphics tablet or what?

edit: so it's supposed to be like a huge ipod touch? Why is this exciting again?

this is almost as bad as arstechnica creating their live update page for the event a week early. :lol Patience people. Don't blow your wad before the device has been unveiled

unless you can keeping coming indefinitely like RubxQub ;)

Wednesday will be the day i either get an ereader or wait for the tablet. My main reason for wanting this is using it to read research papers and take to class.

That's what I honestly want to believe. If they announce some sort of collaboration with Wacom, I know a lot of people would be like "meh", but I would explode in happiness right there :_)

iPhone going non exclusive would be the announcement of the entire presentation no matter what the tablet brings, well for me at least.

From the other thread:

My predictions:

1. iBook
2. 10" Screen
3. LCD
4. 64GB standard.
5. Games will be demoed where multiple people are interacting with the tablet on a table, like a board game.

The rest is wild card time.

:lol You old grouch.

Bah, I tried getting everyone's predictions out of the other thread and put them in the OP. Looks like I missed a few.

I mainly created the thread today because there was some confusion as to whether the event was tomorrow or not (I actually thought it was tomorrow as well until I realized the 27th was Wednesday).

Just making sure the interested don't have their erections on the wrong day is all.

Prediction
1. Kindle DX size
2. Multi-touch of course
3. Price point of 500-600 dollars
4. Alternate optional input method(pen that can be used on multi-touch screen)
5. Can get the device cheaper if purchased from a cellphone provider with service
4. 32 GB
5. ARM based processor

Same here. I'd love to stay with Sprint and also get an iPhone this year.

Wasn't ever really an apple fanboy, used a new iMac at work for ad design, it looked great but was just a computer to me since I couldn't play on it... Year or so later, bought an iPhone now I'd have steve's babies... It's sad, but I'm so giddy with anticipation for this annoucement. My predictions;

1: amazing

It's funny because we already have that here in Canada. iPhone is available on Rogers, Fido, Telus and Bell. All the carriers.

Just seeing it in writing got me a little flustered. I doubt it will actually be Wacom, but more likely an approximation of their technology. But it is nice to hope :)

Or, it can hasten some of the technological advancements in e-Reader technology that would make them better. Like color displays. IMO, worst-case, it would mean plain e-Readers stay niche devices. It's not going to ruin their direction... because I don't think they really had that clear a one to begin with except being the best at replicating the print experience electronically.

Exactly my thoughts on this. Now I believe.

I bought an ipod touch the first day it was released. Before the flood gates even opened. Was not even out on the floor so they had to get one out of the back.

Things I predict:

stevejobsgrin.jpg

Steve Talking points:
  • Apple's latest earnings, iPhone sales up, continued projected growth through the 2nd and 3rd quarter of 2010
  • Talking about Android and how Google is playing catch up. Most likely talking about but not directly naming the Nexus One and how Google is fracturing their own market without giving a clear message or commitment to developers.
  • Comparing Apple App market to Android App market. Talking about how the Apple App market is profitable for developers. How the Android market has no clear strategy on payment methods or funding. Steve will most likely say that the Ecosystem in the Apple world is one that is seamless and sustainable.
  • Talking about his continued excitement for the iPod Touch and it's re-imagining of mobile gaming. Most likely talking about hottest selling titles such as Rock Band, Grand Theft Auto and Doom.
Then... I just know he's going to get all school boy giddy on us and say something like...

"So... [looks around at the crowd...] you guys ready?" :lol I just know it's going to be something that the build up will have people cheering.

Tablet / iPhone OS 4.0 talking points:
We will have a merger of iPhone OS and Tablet OS into possibly a new operating system name to come along side the tablet being released.
  • Tablet and iPhone will be running a Mobile version of OS X renamed to accompany both product lines and keep Apple continuity between the products.
  • iPhone update will be live end of this week
  • Apple will announce the iPad/iTablet/iTouch w/ availability the 3rd week of February but for pre-order on Apple.com following the event.
  • New tablet and new iPhone update will reinvent how mobile devices are used as methods of communication and how content is delivered.
  • Expect full App store integration and enhanced applications to hit the App store @ launch
  • Look for most of (if not all) new features on the tablet to be on the iPhone as well. Giving consumers choice of their product while maintaining continuity through products. Touting the newest gestures that will help drive continued innovation and user experience.
  • Expect heavy hitters such as: EA, Activision, Rockstar, Epic and id software to have exclusive game content ready for this new device
  • Look for a retail price of $799 for the new tablet and most likely only one version of this for at least one year.

Dammit RubxQub, I was actually working on a topic like this :lol Nice OP nonetheless
My apologies :D

If there's anything you want me to add to the OP, by all means let me know. I've already added another live blog that someone else has mentioned as well as updated the OP banner (thanks Buckethead).

There's no need. They have 99.4% of the mobile app market. Other than a passing reference or a picture on a slide, he won't bother.

Apple will finally put a hole in one of their computers so we can all do what we've always wanted to: fuck our macs.

But on a more serious note, is the tablet actually going to be something revolutionary or just a big iphone? Steve Jobs says it's the most exciting thing he's ever launched but that's probably just the reality distortion field at work. I'm anticipating the event but skeptical that they could come up with something new besides ereader, touch screen apps/games, internet, etc. etc.

I also hope they put the new intel core i3/5/7 chips in their macbook computers.

Laughed so fucking hard... oh my god :lol

I bring no predictions just more excite!

I love my kindle I love my eee pc, I love my Iphone, but its not enough, I want more.

I ............just ..........want .........more!

Do not let me down Steve Jobs, bring it!

The only reason why I think it will be brought up is because Steve will want to downplay the ground the Android OS is making in the smartphone industry. I think he'll basically point out to developers that there's no need to reinvent the wheel when Apple's model is clearly working quite well.

This is gonna be the best thing Steve Jobs ever created, and we will all use it only to read and post on GAF :P
But seriously, I am excited ! Almost more excited for the iPhone OS4.0 than the tablet itself (if it's true they really share the same new features).
