Graphic Designer Gaf Q1-2010

Any other Designers here on Gaf? I though we should make a thread like the Photography thread where we can show off portfolios and work pieces. I guess this could also be a place for sharing techniques and tutorials.

I'm an advertiser for a gay bar in Las vegas. The subject matter won't be for everyone LOL

Cool site and a great thread idea! Bookmarked for future use. I guess your material hits your target audience? ;D I don't have a proper graphic design job right now but I hope to find some good work soon. I need to make more webdesign stuff for my portfolio.

Awesome idea. I'm working on a portfolio website this week so i'll get a collection of stuff together to put on here as well. Looking forward to seeing GAF's talent pool.

I work as a graphic designer (site), here is some of my work:

I started a blog just today explaining how I make my projects, just wrote about the one in the last pic.

Good thread, I was considering starting a GD thread similar to this (junior boonior, though), but, more focussed on design discussion.

I'll be back!

The Stunned thing looks amazing. I've read the entry about it in your blog and I really like the way you planned everything... it shows in the results you did it with a lot of care.

not a "designer" by any means professionally but I've been noodling with photoshop for the past couple years and trying to make some promo material for myself.

Designer for an Army Depot around here. So can't really show muc hwork and it's not all the impressive to begin with considering the type of work we actually get.

But more of a design question. Font, is there any nice way to determine a good font. I know the general rule is not to use more than 2 fonts in a piece if possible, 3 is pushing it , but I've been finding it hard to find nice professional fonts without going out and buying them since we're not allowed.

I would agree with the "Two Font Rule" unless you're making a word cloud or something.

Check out dafont.com for some quality free fonts.

Ok let me specify, that I can only use the fonts on my PC, pretty much all the ones that came with CorelDRAW, we're not allowed to install/download/etc stuff.

And the question was more on choosing a font. That's always my biggest writer's block when it comes to designing things.

made it last year for an assignment for an internet security company (ifis) of my university.

finally found the "high" pixel version of this image, also some other stupid stuff i hat to made in
last year in the university...

another assignment..
like making a website (i hate this) for a new firm, which is compounding by some big firms (miele, aeg, vaillant, etc...). they want to make the house 2.0 ....

gallerys.jpg

also got more uni stuff, but some of this things are "personal" (personality card (crappy theme)) and some other stupid stuff, thats more trouble than it's worth.

If you are designing posters, concentrate on sans serif fonts. Don't use serif fonts, or a font with any kind of embellishment. If you are designing an informational poster with a limited amount of text that needs to be easily communicated, don't use serifs.

You can do so much with just Helvetica, 2 colours and a blank canvas. (Don't confuse Helvetica with Arial, it's not the same).

Awesome, this is just the kind of thread I needed. I'm just a lowly college student right now, so my work isn't exactly worth posting, but seeing your guy's stuff helps me come up with ideas and new ways to do things.

Subscribed.

your friend has skills.

Here's a smattering of logo designs I've done for a variety of companies. Hopefully most of them are relatively self-explanatory.

Remarkable work on the map posters. Congratulations.

Definitely not a graphic designer, but sometimes I have to play one for my work. Will keep an eye on this thread to learn and brainstorm.

Do you use illustrator or photoshop?

Not really a graphic designer myself. I do love it however. Here's a flyer I did recently for an upcoming local fighting game tournament.

The empty space is left for details the tournament runner will give me later.

All the pieces in here are really well made and inspiring. :)

I could never be a designer...

it would be THE DESIGNERS REPUBLIC every day, every year, 24/7, and I want every designer to make stuff like that forever and ever interspersed with some art deco here and there.

Some really great stuff here. GAF never fails to impress. I was wondering if you guys know of any good and free Photoshop tutorials? I could use more practice... thanks.
