A week on from yet another fastest selling game of the year so far and the record has yet again been smashed – Square Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ debuts at No1 on 360/PS3, split 54% PS3 and 46% 360.

The last Final Fantasy title to reach No1 was actually ‘Final Fantasy XII’, back in week 8, 2007 although this was only released on PS2. Last week’s record breaker, EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ drops to No2 (-38%) and Ubisoft drop one place to No3 with ‘Just Dance’ on Wii (-9%). Sony’s ‘Heavy Rain’ on PS3 (-8%) remains at No4 and Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ climbs one place to No5 (+11%). Also climbing one place is Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ at No6 (+2%) – the title also climbs one place in the all-time All Formats total UK market unit sellers, finally outpacing Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA: San Andreas’ to claim second place, behind the UK’s biggest selling game of all time, ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ on DS.

Also of note this week is the release of the third game in the Ben 10 series – D3P/Namco Bandai’s ‘Ben 10: Alien Force – Vilgax Attacks’ which debuts at No13 over 5 formats. Debuting right behind at No14 is THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising’. Further down the Top 40 we also have Sega’s ‘Yakuza 3’ on PS3 debuting at No24. Disney’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ makes an appearance at No34 having been released last week and Sega’s ‘Sonic Classic Collection’ on DS is new at No35.

More information from Edge:
Sales monitor Chart-Track said that the standard PS3 version claimed 45 per cent of overall sales, versus 43 per cent for the Xbox 360 one. The PS3 special edition accounted for nine per cent of total sales and the 360 one for four per cent. Strangely, those figures adds up to 101 per cent.

Very close between both SKU's...

Also obligatory "Go Uncharted 2 and Forza 3! :D"

:( @ Mass Effect 2 being gone already.

I think this percentage is a tad easier from the OP :p

"Square Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ debuts at No1 on 360/PS3, split 54% PS3 and 46% 360."

Edit:

Of course this information is still quite interesting. Thanks!

I'm just posting extra information that isn't present in the OP. It's not often that we get SKU specific breakdowns. :)

Surprised that HR holds that well. Ouch @ Yakuza 3 (well it was kinda sent to die)
I think Yakuza 3 did pretty well, it's definitely a niche game.

Oh yeah that's definitely true. I misread the part after the bolded, my bad.

Those seem to be some solid pick up percentages for the special editions.

Uncharted 2 out of the top 20 for the first time iirc. D:

Forza 3... The legs!!! D:

Heavy Rain has a miniscule drop this week! D:

Dawn Of War II's expansion did very nicely for a PC release - great game too - hope it got the sales THQ expected.

Heavy Rain is holding on quite nicely, especially considering that it was supply constrained about 2/1.5 weeks ago (I know I couldn't find it anywhere until only 2 days ago!)

I wonder how long FF13 will stick around in the top 10?

Is Heavy Rain having more legs than Bioshock 2 :lol
Yakuza 3 wasn't a total disaster (ex. uncharted).
FFXIII did as people expected.

PS3 Software really strong this week..

btw isnt it the 3rd week of HR to be in top 5.? is any other PS3 EXCLUSIVE game stayed so high for 3 weeks in UK charts.?

The team behind Just Dance must be feeling pretty damn good about themselves by now. :lol

Glad to see Heavy Rain still up there.

54/46...

Not bad at all, I was expecting much worse for the 360 version...,if the percentage stay around those numbers counting the rest of sales, I could easily see Versus announced for 360...

Well SE must be happy. Will be interesting to see how FF13 holds up next week.

Happy to see BF:BC holding.

Why has MW2 jumped back up into the chart?

Still no Picross 3D - it's a bugger to find in the shops tohough so not surprised.

M&L on DS is TV advertised now so got a bump.

Halo ODST climbing the 360 charts but not in the main charts. Prob due to Reach BEta hype. Back at full price in GameStation due to this!!

FF13 has been pimped on the Xbox marketplace for months during the last month it's always been somewhere prominent so people see it's coming out, there was never a chance that it would flop on 360.

Also i think Versus is pretty much a goer in coming to both systems.

Do we happen to have Battlefield 1 numbers somewhere? We could deduce FFXIII's numbers

edit: well not the actual numbers but "at least X"

These are only UK sales, other places are heavily favoring PS3 version.. but definitely having it on XBOX will bring some sales..

Yeah no mention at all of the PS3 version in the adverts so not a shocker. Versus to 360 is another given, the more people that play a Nomura game the better.

Anybody know how much X and XII did in the UK?

I don't have precise numbers, maybe someone has, but according to ELSPA's awards both titles sold somewhere between 200 and 300k.
I'm surprised, that's kinda low.

That's cos it was ~£4 from Play.com last week.

I must sell my copies this week!
I don't care (despite the fact I paid £31.99 for my PSN copy). There is a PSP game in the Top 40!

Square-Enix must be really apprehensive with FF 13. If it underperforms or falls short of sales expectations, I THINK this is their last "mass market" IP outside of Japan ={

You do know they bought Eidos right?

23 (__) PS3 Yakuza 3 (Sega)
That's a freaking surprise. Yakuza 2 was quite budget priced (and dub-less like Y3) and it only made #7 in the PS2-only, budget-only top, as in nowhere in general charts. Yakuza 1 with its dub did made it to general chart (all prices) at #20, while Yakuza 3 makes #24 in the same chart.

FFXIII doesn't really tell how well it did, would have liked some comparison with FFXII first week. Being highest debut this year doesn't say much.

FFXIII seems to be doing just fine.

46/54 is a really close ratio in the UK, naturally it's more biased for PS3 in the other EU countries. Still, I was thinking of 35/65 ratio. Should the ratio be similar in the US, a Versus port for 360 is pretty much set in stone.

what in the world? :lol

let me get this straight... if it "underperforms" (probably 2 million in sales), they would dismiss worldwide market so... their games would sell even less.

I cant see an angle where that makes any sense at all.

Even much smaller games have enough sales to justify localizations, such as Yakuza, Demon Souls, etc, let alone games that sell > 1 million in the west.

The FFXIII ratio just shows how much the general market listens to the gaming press who were knocking the 360 version. Will be interesting see which version has legs.

I'd say it has more to do with the prior assumption that FF was PS3 only and people bought the machines for the game in advance. This matches up to the number of Fanboy Editions sold on PS3 being double that of the X360.

Ed: and it's Final Fantasy - after next weeks chart I'd estimate 90% of the people who want it will already have it.

I meant the PS3/360 ratio is surprisingly close considering that Final Fantasy is seen as a PlayStation franchise. I don't think anybody (or many) were put off by bad gaming press for the 360 version.
