DragonBall: TAG VS was announced in Jump last week. It's a new PSP title that seems to be based on the Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparking!/Raging Blast/Legends arena style of gameplay, rather than the 2D fighter style of the Budokai/Shin Budokai/Burst Limit/Infinite World games. It's a 2 Vs. 2 fighter, and not much else is known other than that. We don't know who's developing it. Namco Bandai is handling the publishing, and it will be released this summer in Japan. Good. I love Tenkaichi series (my fav), but a bit of fresh air isn't unwanted.

I was expecting a DB game announcement this month, but not on PSP.

Looks really like a Tenkaichi game, except for the TAG playing.

The character models seem pretty good. The environments look okay.

I wonder how Tenkaichi controls will work on PSP, since the last games used pretty much every button of the controllers.

At least in this one there won't be any "push right stick to do a super ki attack" bullshit.

Those are some nice bullshots. I would've looked through the site to grab the images, but the screens were so small that I didn't feel it was worth the effort. But hey, thanks to those who did feel it was worth it!

Supersonic Warriors (1) was the first 2D DBZ game to get close to what DBZ really is. The other ones are merely classic fighters with a DBZ skin.
Never played SW2 though.

While this may be true, I didn't feel either game played well on GBA or DS.

Depends on what you're looking for, most Z games tend to be fighters, and if you're into a Street Fighter-esque game then Super DragonBall Z is good for you. Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 are the fan favourites. Budokai 3 is more of a button masher fighting game, where as Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is an arena fighter.

Outside of fighting games, the Legacy of Goku series on GBA is a pretty competent action RPG. Advanced Adventure on GBA is a nice platformer/beat em up. The Origins series on DS is very much like the Zelda games on DS, and Attack of The Sayians is a solid, but run of the mill JRPG.

Most of those games are on last gen platforms...

I'm looking for fighters. The PS1 era games weren't great, the Super Famicom ones were okay. Looks like Budokai 3 is sort of the consensus, and I have a PS2 so go me. I'll check out Tenkaichi 3 as well, thanks.

It's just flat-out amazing the longevity this media franchise has considering just how long ago the manga and anime ended.

No, I tried it on PS1 and it was the same game IIRC.
The game may have a great story mode, the battles are too basic. Only 1 power attack by character and you have to get that shitty gauge to red or blue (I don't remember) to launch it...
The rest of the battle is: Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle and maybe Square...

I don't see why is this game so popular among DBZ fans. I never got far in the story mode because of the stupid battle system.
SW was "based" on similar mechanics, but far better implemented.

I wish a DBZ game would be made that I could truly enjoy. I'm not even sure what I want anymore but I don't see the point of all these remakes.

The only game I ever really had fun with was Hyper Dimension and that was a japanese only release. :lol

Hyper Dimension was released in Europe.
