NeoGAF User Highlighter - A Google Chrome extension

UPDATE 06/22/2013

Please note that the Chrome extension hasn't been updated since 2010! It's something I may or may not get around to updating in the future. I am currently updating the Greasemonkey script since that's what I use in my day-to-day NeoGAF browsing. For the time being, if you're a Chrome user, please look into using Tampermonkey for Greasemonkey compatibility. Thanks!

The original OP is below.

Keeping track on your posts on NeoGAF is tough, especially if you're a heavy poster and threads move quickly. Losing search hasn't helped either and, while thread subscriptions can keep track of threads you're interested or participate in, there's more that can be done.

Enter the NeoGAF User Highlighter extension for Chrome.

This actually started off a badly written Greasemonkey script I made a few months ago, but I decided to clean it all up and try my hand at making a useful Chrome extension out of it for everyone else to use.

It highlights the threads you create, the posts you make, and even highlights your quotes in other people's posts so you can better track your back-and-forth conversations hours - or days - after you've stepped away from them.

So yeah, give it a shot. I've found it useful in my day-to-day GAF usage, you might, too.

FIREFOX USERS
You can gran the Greasemonkey script here: https://greasyfork.org/scripts/4464-highlight-gaf

Be aware that you'll have to open up the script manually to enter your GAF username and mess around with any options. Manage User Scripts -> Select the script -> Edit.

Awesome.

Can the icon on the address bar be removed though? I like to keep it as clean and since I only need to enter my username once it is kinda unnecessary.

-edit- And make it highlight the whole post instead of just the Username and Avatar section?

I'd like YouTube links translated to thumbnails like the mobile app as well. An extension that added more emoticons would be sweet as well :p

Nice extension but can the icon be removed. I don't want that creepy smiley face on my browser.

Edit: Hmm doesn't seem to be properly working for me. The threads I posted in aren't highlighting.

Don't know if it can be removed. This is my first Chrome extension and it was built in about a day, but i'll look into it.

The script started off by highlighting your entire post instead of just your avatar area, but I found it be too distracting, especially in back-and-forth conversations with a lot of people quoting you. I'll look into making it an option.

It doesn't highlight threads you post in, that's impossible to implement. It does highlight threads you create, though.

Seems really helpful. Any chance on a Greasemonkey script? Every time I try Chrome it doesn't seem to click. I'll try it once more, though.

Awesome. Absolutely awesome.

If you could possibly put an option to remove the icon it would be great cause that's the area where my notifications pop up and my eyes are accustomed to having disabled/grey icons.

Still. Thanks a lot!

Very nice, wish it would highlight the threads you posted in though, but no big deal. Testing it out now, using this color; B8CCDB.

[EDIT] Nah can't use it on myself, since the highlighted color ruins how one of my avatars look. Oh well, would use it on other gaffers if you could do multiple usernames though.

Nice, thanks, but it could really use the ability to highlight threads you've posted in, not just ones you've created.

Looks great. I'm not a heavy topic creator though...It'd definitely be awesomer if it could highlight threads posted in as well.

Edit. +1 for whole post highlighting. By the time I've seen the highlight, I'm already looking at my avatar.

I wish Chrome let me do the things that Firefox lets me do. I really do.

Can I change the color? I'm getting that light green in the OP.

I put "Red" in the "color" option box.

i really like the colored quotes. it would be nice to only have that colored, since the user color can sometimes clash with the avatar.

To be honest though, I don't need it to highlight a thread I created, since I would usually remember the title to the point where I could be scrolling a decent speed and catch it.

Quotes are good though, because the 'originally posted by' text is a bit small it can be missed. Don't need it to highlight my posts though since I can recognize them via my avatar easily.

Basically something like this;

Basically more options, multiple usernames, and ability to hide the ugly icon in my chrome would be awesome additions. Either way cool stuff, kudos.

[EDIT] Yeah you're right, a separate extension page would be better.

This is a simple extension which scans through the HTML looking for your name as listed in the page and changing the styling behind it. There is no way to know what thread you've posted in. It doesn't have the thread information, just the HTML.

In any case, if you want that feature talk to the admins or something. vBullettin has that option to change the icon of the 'envelope' to something else in threads you've participated in.

Very good ideas. However, since a lot of people don't like or don't need the icon, i'll probably be moving everything to a separate options page accessible through the Extensions page.

We need to get together and make a "NeoGAF +" extension that has a bunch of features for GAF, like this user highlighting.

I want image scaling, reveal spoiler on hover, and a few of other small stuff to be in a single GAF+ extension. Would be cool to have, wish I could code. :lol

Speaking of which, does anyone know of a Firefox extension that automatically scales down large images to fit the window? I mean Firefox does it if it's only an image, but it'd be great to have it as an in-page feature. I'd just like to get rid of side-scrolling forever.
