Microsoft’s sandbox shooter sequel ‘Crackdown 2’ secures No1, beating the original game’s No2 debut position back in Week 8 2007 and claiming Microsoft’s first All Formats No1 for 2010.

The Xbox 360 exclusive causes Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ to slip down a place to No2 and Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ follows suit, moving down to No3. Ubisoft’s ‘Dance on Broadway’ almost doubles in sales from last week, moving from No6 up to No4 and EA’s ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ holds steady at No5. Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ takes a tumble, down from No3 to No6 and EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11’ gets a bogey also moving down three places from No4 to No7. Ever present Top 10 titles Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ stays firm at No8 and Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ moves down to No9. Thanks to price promotions THQ’s ‘UFC 2010: Undisputed’ wrestles its way back into the Top 10 at No10 and the only other new entry this week is Nintendo’s ‘Pokepark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure’ in at No25

SMG2 hanging on pretty well - and it does look as though what's happening in Japan may be happening here (SMG2 seems to be stealing the air from NSMB Wii in Japan).

Also seems like the switcharound on Harry Potter is in full effect, as the typical second-week bump takes it past the 360 version handily.

ISTR last year's installment doing pretty well in the UK (anyone have ELSPA awards, as I think it charted there)...

The last game sold pretty well with m+ support - most ppl wont buy a new tiger woods game every year i guess.

The first batch of Demon's Souls which was the Black Phantom Edition sold out pretty much everywhere.

I think the standard edition is going to be released down the track, horrible idea imo.

Demons souls is sold out almost everywhere. The first shipment sold out fast in Japan last year, later Atlus did the same in the US. And now Namco follow. I guess nobody believes the salespotential of this game. Pretty sad :(

Yup, really tiny batch distributed as well.
Can't get a retail copy :(

Alan Wake bump?

Tiger Woods sold pretty well before (I think it even outsold 360/PS3 versions) that's why i was suprised not only it's being outsold by the other versions, but it's not even in the top 40. I thaught maybe it was delayed or something like that...

WII Dance On Broadway (Ubisoft)

I expect this will remain in the top 10 for many more weeks to come. :(

As for Demon's Souls stock is very scarce due to the shift from the Black Phantom edition to the standard edition. I was lucky enough to swag a copy at HMV before they ran out.

I assume Alan Wake is back due to the price dropping to £17.99 on some retailers in the UK.

indeed, i thought Wii version was even top selling one generation? maybe casuals dont like purchasing these yearly improvements? or?

Same thing that is happening to Tiger Woods on Wii happened to PES Wii.

08 sold great but 09 and 10 bombed.

I guess the Wii audience doesn't care for yearly sequels unless it has Dance or Mario in the title.

As a relatively casual football/golf game player, I'm not surprised. I bought the first PES game on Wii and I've had no desire to buy the follow-ups at full price, although I will pick up at least one when it hits the bargain bin.

I appreciate that each new release has at least some new content or new modes and tweaks, but there's nothing significant enough to entice me away from the original - or at least, not enough to get me to shell out £30 to buy it new.

And what yearly Mario sequels were you thinking of?

I sort of expected PokePark to debut higher than 24. It's alright for a Pokemon spin-off, I guess. Maybe it will rise next week.

Nice to see Dance On Broadway rise into the runner-up position.

It really is a sad day. I woke up this morning and just felt kind of humdrum. I thought maybe a family of birds had been hit by an errant baseball or something. Now I know why.

UK games market falls 16% for H1 2010

UK sales stand at £963m, down from last year’s £1.143bn

Sales for video game software, hardware and accessories in the UK saw a decline of 16 per cent during the first half of 2010, it has been revealed today.

Data from Chart-Track shows that sales made from the first 26 weeks of this year stand at £963m – a drop of £180m from this time last year.

Software sales generated £533m, a year-on-year decline of 10 per cent while hardware sales were down 32 per cent at £256m. However, Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 saw a net combined increase in the amount of sales made.

ELSA director general Mike Rawlinson said: “UK consumers are still facing economic uncertainty and everyone is looking to how they can make savings, which has naturally impacted on the entertainment industry as a whole.

“However I am very encouraged by the innovative E3 announcements. With the introduction of Kinect for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Move in addition to significant plans for 3D gaming on Nintendo 3DS and PS3, the market is sure to start buzzing.

"UK consumers are also getting their gaming entertainment in a variety ways. They are increasingly downloading video games from websites, and are playing games on their mobiles or through social networking sites – not only on consoles. This is proof that interactive entertainment is expanding way beyond its traditional boundaries.”

The report doesn’t include pre-owned sales or games sold digitally.

Which Mario or Dance game has yearly sequels again?

Dance, Dance, Revolution Hottest Party comes to mind. Just Dance 2 comes out this Fall, but it's not out, yet. Mario Party hasn't had a yearly sequel since 2007.

Just Dance 2 and Ubis Michael Jackson Game will sell like hotcake on Wii.

Italy ( as well as spain) is piracylandia :) installed base of ps3/X360 are very very near, but software piracy kills every single X360 games

This Won't change anytime soon :(

Alan Wake re-enters the charts. :D

A double edged sword as the only reason it's there is thanks to the more than half price RRP from virtually every retailer in the UK, but good news for Remedy as it might be enough to convince MS to go ahead with a sequel/more DLC.

All of Europe is Sonyland besides the UK. And even there it must be extremely close by now.
