"Do People Still Play That?" Thread of Current Multiplayer Community Activity

If you've ever said to yourself, "Hey, that game's mutliplayer looks kinda neat. Maybe I'll check it out. Wait...do people even play that anymore?" Then this is the thread for you!

Those of us that enjoy online play have all had this happen to us at one point or another; you're thinking about checking out a game that either came out a while ago, or was recently released and has little to no buzz around its mutliplayer. Regardless, you want to check it out anyway, but the only problem is you have no idea if there's even an active community for it. That's where this thread comes in, a grand list of multiplayer games out there and a rank out of 5 to gauge the level of activity it currently has.

All of the information that is compiled here is provided by your fellow GAF members.

*** Have a specific question about a certain game's multiplayer (region, best time to play, etc)? If there's no official thread for the game in question, here's the best place to ask about it! ***

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the five different levels of activity:
5/5 = Community is extremely active. No trouble at all finding people to play with, even at the most obscure hours of the day.
4/5 = Community is very active. No trouble at all finding games at peak hours. Slightly longer waits during non-peak hours, but still rarely any issues finding people to play with.
3/5 = Community is mildly active. Basically if you log on at peak hours, at least a few people will be playing it. Even though finding people to play with at peak hours includes a bit of a wait, waits during non-peak hours are noticeably longer.
2/5 = The most interesting of the five levels of activity, because two types of games fall under the 2/5:
2A.) Community is active, but very very small.
These are games that (likely) have a tiny, but very dedicated hardcore community. If you want to play this game's multiplayer, your best bet is to look online for clans or teams and find out when they play, because anyone who had anything less than a die-hard interest in the game has moved on, general matchmaking is often completely barren.
2B.) Community is dying an agonizing death. These are possibly games that people bought mostly for the single-player, and only messed around with the multiplayer after initially picking the game up. These kinds of games tend to fall down to a 1/5 a few months after release.
Be sure to clarify in your post which type of 2/5 the game is, either a 2A/5 or 2B/5.
1/5 = Community is non-existent. Pretty self-explanatory; these are games that have multiplayer, but it's community is just dead. For whatever reason, no one is touching the game's multiplayer and (apparently) neither should you.
Perfect Dark Zero 2/5
GRAW 3/5
Was surprised to find that GRAW isn't the wasteland I thought it would be. And PDZ still often has games, but they're usually half players half bots. So it's a very low 2/5. The netcode is fantastic though which is probably what brings people back, chances are if you make a game you'll soon have a lobby with at least 4 or 5 other players.
I don't know about that. It's not totally deserted as I just played a few weeks ago in ranked and unranked, didn't have a problem finding any matches. Depends on times of course, but I'd have to bump it up to 3 at least.
Unreal Tournament PC = 3/5 (There is no matchmaking.. usually about 1k-1.5k people on the server list so a game is pretty easy to find. Only problem is that you are playing against people that have been UTing it up for a decade so sharpen your pencils because you are going to be schooled.)
Earth and Beyond = No comment
That is surprising.
But the shocker is there was a lot of people still playing Quantum of Solace on 360.
Seriously!
Burnout Revenge (360) 3/5...ive been trying to revive it with friends and so far I have gotten a few friends and some of their friends to get it. You guys should get it too :D
How's MGO now for each region? It's been a few months since the last I played due to YLOD.
Calling All Cars = 1/5
Killzone (PS2) = 2/5
Last time I played was about 2 weeks ago and it had around the same amount of players as when it launched, I'm in the US BTW.
I was thinking of getting MAG, what would be the rating on that?
3.5/5. It really depends on the mode. Domination (256) can take a few minutes while Suppression (64) usually starts up right away.
Yeah I rarely have issue finding matches either. I don't play the game much since I suck, but whenever I do it's always pretty easy finding someone. I'd agree with 3, at least 2.
That sounds like what it was at launch. I think it's taking time to match players.
Playing it again, it felt like it was about the same time of wait.
Great. Hopefully I get to buy a PS3 move bundle this holiday season and get back in the action.
i picked up saints row 2 (PS3) yesterday & the co-op seems pretty happening. not sure about the other online modes.
i really miss Conker Live & Reloaded. I wonder how hard it is to get a match going there.
Puzzle Fighter (360) - 2/5 - There's a handful of hardcore people who still play this game regularly Ranked. Not as huge as the others but the 2/5 description fits this game perfectly.
ZP2K9 (360) - 3/5 - At it's peak hours it has a couple dozen people playing. It's amazing that this Indie game's still going stronger than 95% of Arcade titles.
Mr Driller (360) - 1/5 - I got this off the Namco Museum pack a while back and a couple times a day for a week I tried finding people online. Found one guy, but he disconnected before we could play.
Perfect Dark (360) - 1/5 - *sigh*. When you actually find people though it's pretty awesome.
KOF98UM/NGBC/Garou (360) - 1/5 - Every now and then you'll find someone on these, but not often.
Nah, I'd put it at 3/5, at least. There's some slow days but you can still find different people.
shouldn't calling all cars be 0/5 since they took the servers offline?
Thanks for clarifying, updated :D
This is a good idea for a thread. Kudos to the OP for thinking of it.
Thanks! Figured it might save people some Google searches and random posts/threads if we just had a hub for this sort of info.
What? Seriously? People play that thing?
More like a 3/5, but yeah.
A lot of people do still play it occasionally because, despite having only 5 functional maps and none of the added features from the PC, it's still an incredibly fun and polished game.
I play it with my friends at least a few times a month.
Call of Duty 4 PC - 4/5. Lots of servers and plenty of people playing, but you might have trouble getting into some of the more exotic game types.
Heroes of Newerth - 5/5. Shame you wouldn't want to play with the community, though.
call of duty: finest hour ps2. 1/5
There is alot of times a single server that is there. A couple of random people play on it.
- Team Fortress 2 -
PC = 5/5
- Counter-Strike 1.6 -
PC = 5/5
- Counter-Strike: Source -
PC = 2/5
Thanks for all of the info thus far guys, list is growing fast!
For some clarification in terms of discussion in this thread, I added this little blurb to the OP:
** Have a specific question about a certain game's multiplayer (region, best time to play, etc)? If there's no official thread for the game in question, here's the best place to ask about it!
