Title says all... just signed for my free month trial and curious to know which are the best anime series / movies to watch?

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. It's available on streaming (at least it was) which is how I watched it - FANTASTIC show with a mostly fantastic dub. Very mature, doesn't treat its audience like idiots.

The 2nd season (2nd GiG) and and the following movie (Solid State Society) are also on there as well.

Darker than Black (only have Vol 1 right now...)
Full Metal Alchemist
Samurai 7
The Last Exile (I love, not many do. One of the best endings in an anime)
And I second Ghost in the Shell. Pure greatness.

Listen to this man. If I never bought both seasons already, I would be watching it on Netflix.

Will I get the story without watching the original Ghost In The Shell movie?
if you start with the show it shouldn't be too hard to grasp. the original movie is pretty outstanding though, i highly recommend checking it out.

There are two different Ghost in the Shell continuity stories.

Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence are adapted from the first manga.

Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society is a continuation of the actual series, to be watched after 2nd gig. The series is merely based off of the world and characters of the manga, but is not a direct adaptation.

all the instant streaming stuff is dubbed, i cringe when the voices don't match the characters
I agree, mostly, but I think Full Metal Alchemist specifically has an amazing dub. Ghost in the Shell is decent too.

Always meant to watch this, so which Ghost in the Shell movie do you guys recommend? The original isn't in HD on netflix streaming, and 2.0 looks awkward with all the cgi slapped on.

Just finished watching it, although the 2.0 version.
Really amazing movie, though the CGI seems out of place sometimes.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. Most of the other anime is crap, but Ghost stands above.

Oh and Gurren Lagann, but it's in English and that's kind of eww.

I love this series. It's easily one of my favorites.

Ghost in the Shell. May as well watch all of it, even the worst of it is better than 90% of the other anime out there. My favorites are the movies and the 2nd Gig.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a really good watch, too. Only anime I've ever watched front to back with my spouse, and it's about the only one I'd be willing to watch with a family member. Great dub and a solid story, with very little of the embarrassing anime tropes that make them hard to watch.

Also, the Cowboy Bebop movie. Watch that first.

On Streaming:

Why should you watch it? Because it's the most insane thing I've ever seen. And it is only 50 minutes!

Edit: Fullmetal Alchemist is on streaming now? Awesome! I've been watching Brotherhood on DVD from them but that's soon to run out of released stuff, so I can just switch to rewatching the original series.
