GOG's ToEE forum - Instructions of how to get Co8 working properly will likely be found here first.

You'll also want to mention there's a chance the patch may not work with GOG's version at first (since Co8 requires the game not to be patched to the newest version, so if GOG's copy is, there'll need to be some sort of fix), which would be pretty bad because the game was littered with bugs, but such trouble will very likely get straightened out in a matter of days.

*Many thanks to Minsc.

If you encounter any troubles with the patch the easiest way to troubleshoot is to visit GOG's own forums. The community is incredible and really fast on solving every bump that can be found running these games.

*IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT CO8 MOD*

Their forums (GOG) also confirm that no additional patches are needed to get the Co8 mod working with this release.

Finally there's some info on how to setup the widescreen resolutions (just by editing the toee.cfg file) here.

GOG is reading GAF confirmed - I was aking for this game some days ago :lol

Great news. Needs Circle of Eight mod - nay, it requires this mod.

Finally, after all those years hearing about the awesomeness of the combat system of TOEE, I will be able to try myself. I hope it´s not too hard to patch.

Why was this hammered in the reviews and does the CO8 mod fix this+

Yeah I don't rember the reception being that great back then either. That's why I didn't play it back then. Anyone has more insight why this is actually good?

The implementation of DnD rules and...that's it. Purely the gameplay. And I mean purely. At launch the game was super broken, Troika died shortly after (hence the huge fan patches), the presentation as far as dialogue and story and all that was dreadfully boring. The parts where you're in a town walking and talking and all that is just really, really boring. Once you fight shit, it's *awesome*.

Ah so this is pretty much a dungeon crawler with DnD rules. I don't think that is something for me. I'll continue to wait for BG2.

Oh god yes! Troika love! :D

Never used GOG before and if they're able to get Arcanum on there as well I'm in (my old CD is broken P_P).

Arcanum is already there

Just bought ToEE and Two Worlds for $15.98 - PC gaming wins again!

Edit: Corto and Minsc beaten like mules :D

It is on there! :)

I sent you an PM to update the links you quoted from me in the other thread Corto, sorry! I found a better one to use from GOG's forums.

Looking forward to playing this game, eventually! I've read so many really positive impressions about it.

Edit: Beaten twice over :lol

Here's some updated links/info if it's easier for the time being!

Link to grid/download thread explaining all versions of Co8 mod and what they do.

GOG's ToEE forum - Instructions of how to get Co8 working properly will likely be found here first.

The mod seems overwhelming, but worked first try for me, maybe that'll help some of the people who get scared away from seeing that grid (which I just ignored and grabbed the newest version)

The truest implementation of 3.5 combat out there, and for that, it was fantastic.

Too bad there's no 4E games out yet. Whoever has the D&D license now is squandering it.

Wasn't this game kind of a dud when it came out? I remember reading about it being a buggy, unoptimized mess and it got sub-par reviews.

Yup, see Teknopathetic's post. But there's a rather huge fan patch now to fix most of the mess. The combat part of the game is where it shines.

I cant resist anymore I have been against DD ever since I read horror stories about steam accounts being taken away by people who try to get refunds or try to get a mistake fixed.

But every time I see a gog thread, it just chips away about my doubt on DD. I guess gog is alright since no drm and easy to backup right?

Yup, GOG is the best implementation of DD I've used. You just need to backup a single installer exe (and optionally some extra zip files). You can redownload everything from GOG whenever you want as well.

Still the best implementation of combat in a D&D game and really, the best combat system in a video game RPG.
Yeah, too bad the game's boring and the interface takes a bit to get used to, more games should copy it's combat mechanics

I need someone to confirm this for me. If I install this game, it will NOT delete all of my system files this time, correct?

What? Never heard that one :lol

When the game originally came out, it would sometimes delete a computer's system files when it installed. I think it either took out some specific files or it just emptied the win32 folder or something. Atari had to put out a patch that you had to run before you even installed the game to prevent this.

You sure you aren't thinking of Pools of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor? I've never heard of ToEE doing that.

I actually really enjoyed that game. Once it was patched it was a lot of fun. Very atmospheric. Anyone hear anything about GOG resurrecting this one? I still don't understand the rights issues surrounding all these releases...

This game brought to my attention the Diablo series. For that, I am forever grateful.

Ubisoft, Atari, and Hasbro would have to work together for that release. Ubisoft has essentially abandoned GOG at this point, so I wouldn't count on it appearing any time soon. However, if Ubisoft does decide to work with Atari, Hasbro, and GOG, they could potentially release the Gold Box games as well.

Yea thats Ruins of Myth Drannor not ToEE.

Nice to see ToEE up. Its not the greatest game but it has a charm to it.

If there is only one more Atari/D&D release then im guessing BG2. Hopefully IWD2 is released down the road sometime.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I fucking love this game, all it's faults only makes it prettier

Edit AND FOR ONLY $5.99?! Goddamnit GOG

Well GOG is saying the virus warning on the .exe is a false-positive, and that their release is virus free, so if your A/V software deletes the .exe you'll need to add it to a safe path or whatever you do to get it to work.

Their forums also confirm that no additional patches are needed to get the Co8 mod working with this release.

Why would you think there's only one more D&D release? There's still three spots left I thought.

I'd say it's pretty obvious that IDW2 and BG2 are two of the three spots. If they go chronologically then it'll be BG2 first, but I could see GoG holding BG2 for the final spot. I'm more curious about the 7th spot. TOEE was one of the speculated non-Infinity engine games but outside of Rollercoaster Tycoon (which would be a welcome addition) I don't know what else there would be.

Well there's the 1997/98 Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers game too I thought, first guess here. It's more RPG-ish, and the old installer won't run on 64-bit systems these days.

Awesome! I have played through this game 4 or 5 times by now, its definately one of my favorite rpgs. Bought!

How long a game would you estimate it at?

Oh there are three more spots? My mistake. i thought there were two left after IWD hit. Nevermind then :lol

I've played lots of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th edition but skipped 3.5 entirely. And I've never actually played the ToEE module. What the hell, I'll give this a shot.

Minsc said:

I'd wager 10-20 hours myself, depending on how much of the temple you explore and how many times you reload.

If you play ironman it's an infinite time, but hell of a fun one.

I'm incredibly disappointed that Atari never made some more additional classic D&D modules with the finished engine, 'course it didn't sell gangbusters but converting stuff and selling it at a low price would have been a cool thing. Maybe more acceptable these days?

Only $5.99? Bought!

I heard it was good, but plagued by bugs back in the day so I avoided it.

Hopefully user patches and all that will work on the GOG version.

Yes. I posted some links on the OP that will be useful. :D

If you liked IWD and BG portraits, there are CO8 mods that let you use them for certain modules. And IIRC, as long as you follow instructions, you can make your own as well.
