Topic is very clear cut. The only rule is it has to be an American film (thus no Yor or Strike Commando, or Hong Kong) and it must be released from 1980-1989 (so no Delta Force 2). You can also do 5 or 10 depending on how many you can recall or really like.

I'll have to think of an order later, but some starter titles for now to get people thinking (more than 10 of course)

Hey, I'm trying to keep it limited. The 1980s American Action Film was different than say the 1980s Hong Kong action movie. Seriously it's an action of limitation. Not to piss off fans of Turkey Shoot aka Escape From Camp Thatcher ;)

Added Missing Titles! Originally I meant it to just be of the Commando variety hence Raiders not being in there.

Die Hard I just forgot, same with The Punisher.

There's probably some definition that rules out Raiders of the Lost Ark from this, seeing as it is actually a good movie and everything. It's beneath it to be associated with this filth.

anyone who thinks Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours, Die Hard etc are filth needs to get his/her head checked.

Not only the best and most badass action movie of the 80's, but the greatest film of all-time. I'm completely serious about that.

The movie is beyond awesome. It's never dull, it's funny, awesome score, and full of great action.

Only good Death Wish movie is the orginal and maybe the second part but rest is garbage. Cobra is also pure shit, it was unpopular back then and that's theway it should be now.Big Trouble in Little China should be in top 10 other thant that I have no more complaints.

edit. oh fuck robocop was out too, man it's no. 1 on my list.

yeah, Predator really is in a league of its own. I just watched Predators, its slick and all but doesn't come close to the original. There was no fear factor. But Predator had this low-key, ominous, hopeless nature. Its awesome in its minimal way.

#7 Commando. "Let off some steam Bennett!"

#8 Red Dawn. "WOVLERINES!"

#9 Platoon. The final battle, awesome!

#10 Full Metal Jacket. The sniper scene.

It really shouldn't, but I don't know how to exclude and star wars and star trek and be fair. Really the list is meant to be 80s action and not action movies made in the 1980s. I should have been more clear. Oh well once a list is hashed out I'll be clear about that in the actual list thread.

The Thing is way more horror. It's a great movie, but not action horror like Aliens.

Oh shit - I just realized Young Guns was made in '88. I nominate this to be my #1 favorite action movie of the 80s, followed closely by Road House and Commando.

As an action movie, I think it fits pretty firmly into the genre of action movies. Just because its really good and encapsulates other genres doesn't make it not an action movie.

No, Surrender, No Retreat is actually Hong Kong (with goal of sales abroad). It was made by Seasonal films. Corey Yuen directed it.

It's the same with how Lady Terminator is Indonesian.

I used to think Lethal Weapon 2 was the superior Lethal film, but upon a rewatch last year I realized just how tightly made the original is and had to go back to the first one being the superior film.
