So whilst on holiday, my fiance and I would occasionally turn on the TV in the hotel room and try to find these wacky Japanese game shows we hear so much about (they seem sadly absent from Japanese TV these days - apparently replaced by infomercial programs akin to the Today show where the hosts sit agape in wonder at the drawers of a fridge and cooking programs)
So we found this one soap opera and started watching it, making up our own dialogue as we went along. As far as I can gather, this particular program involves a construction worker who is in love with this girl at work. Other plot points include:
- His older sister is married with kids and her mother in law is a bitch to her
- His mother doesn't speak very much, if at all. She attempted suicide.
- His father is a grumpy authoritarian who is cheating on his mother
- The girl he's in love with is may or may not be dating the boss's son. Boss's son is evidently a cheating douchebag and when she catches him out, he's all like "Playa's gots ta play the game, babay! D'ya think you were the only one?"
- He's got a friend with long hair who is WAY hotter than the girl he's in love with. It's obvious they'll get it on eventually once he comes to his senses.
Anyway, we were intrigued and would like to see the rest of the story (we were left hanging at the mother's attempted suicide). I never thought I'd have the chance to track it down though, until I saw this poster on a train:
Now, does anyone know if this series is (or will be) available dubbed or subbed anytime soon?
