I am in the mood for an Anime-Movie.

Well I've been in the mood for anime movies a lot lately, but besides my favourite
The Girl who leaped through time and 2 weeks ago or so Time of Eve I couldnt decide which film to watch. I have seen all the classics (Ghibli movies, Fireflies, Madhouse stuff). I dont really like older stuff and more stressfull anime like akira or stuff like that.
I took a look at the anime thread, but most of the stuff there are series.

Well, I really dig stuff like the first two movies i listed. they seem to have high budgets and have both happy and sad moments without too obvious anime-clichee storylines.

Can you recommend stuff, that I would consider good? I am open to a lot of stuff, as long as it is not too action oriented (i like action, but not atm) and not too old or too cheap looking.

Fantastic movie but only if you've seen the series.

i think i'll goive it a try without having watched the series. worked well for the eve no jipon movie. I dont really have the time and patience anymore to sit through a whole series.

I assume you don't know about "Memories"

Movie consists of three parts/stories. Watch the first part at least "Magnetic Rose", AMAZING short movie. The other two not so much but I appreciated them in different way.

I think maybe that's not a good idea, though...

Time of Eve movie was a compilation of a series. Disappearance of Haruhi whatever is a sequel to a series. Not the same thing.

(And incidentally, I've been watching the Time of Eve movie today. Pretty interesting so far.)

Anyway, I recommend Sword of the Stranger and Summer Wars.

edit - nvm these recommendations, you're NOT looking for action. :lol

So I'll second the Satoshi Kon stuff, particularly Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers (Perfect Blue is his best film, but probably not what you're looking for right now).

I didn't like The Girl Who Leaped Through Time very much. However, here are some recommendations. Here are two Satoshi Kon movies. (He was actually a writer for "Magnetic Rose.")

Millennium Actress

Really good movie, I highly recommend it :)
This is Gundam F91 just in case anyone did'nt know. It's action so I'm not sure the op is looking for something like it. Also, its not very good. I mean a Gundam fun can probably get some enjoyment out of it, I know I did. But I'm not sure if I would call it good.

As the op. Anything from the late Satoshi Kon sounds like it will be right up your alley. I'm not sure if you have seen them since they are Madhouse titles.

I second this recommendation.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days

i agree with nearly everything posted (love summer wars, LOVE LOVE LOVE tekkonkkinkreet)

BUT it is christmas time and therefore the BEST TIME to watch:

TOKYO GODFATHERS

also the director Satoshi Kon died this year so you should just watch all of his movies anyway!

edit: … wait … beaten twice? Damn

this too !

Paprika is also awesome !
Specialy if you missed the crazyness of dreams in Inception

I have already seen paprika and summer wars. liked the former, didnt like the latter.

tokyo godfathers seems like a good choice though, its thematically really fitting.

Yeah...don't. You'll be pretty confused. The show is pretty short anyways considering you can skip ALOT of parts.

As someone who just watched Disappearance recently having never seen the series, you will be absolutely baffled, and none of the things that happen will have any meaning. I was only able to make sense of things because I had a friend with me who could answer questions. Don't do it.

I recommend Millennium Actress. Hectic editing (as Satoshi Kon sometimes does), but it's got a real human story beating at the center of it. It absolutely blew me away. Still one of my favorite animated movies ever.

Metropolis was my first suggestion also.

The only films I could think of that haven't been mentioned are ones I haven't seen, but they're at least checking out from the good things I've heard about them: Wings of Honneamise and Ghost in the Shell.

Also, although it isn't a film, I would try out the series Freedom. It has great visuals, it's available on Blu-ray and there are only 6 episodes so it's basically the length of a movie.

Summer Wars? Same director as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Why do people reccomend this. Its not out for fucks sake. Stop reccomending this.

If I would reccomend anything I would reccomend 5 CM per second, beutiful movie. Also, to my suprise of the lack of reccomending, Go watch Sword of Stranger if you aven't done so.
That's the cover for the upcoming Blu-ray box set, for those curious.

No title in the image, post, or URL. How kind of you.

5 Centimeters Per Second fits your criteria. It's really pretty. Very low key. The dub is pretty bad though, and I'm a guy that generally prefers dubs.
