Children abused by nuns in Belgium

A Belgian foster home asked potential victims of sexual abuse to come forward on Monday after a man said nuns had abused him there as a child in the 1960s.

The anonymous Belgian, now in his fifties, told local media on Monday that he was abused by nuns for several years from the age of five while he lived at the Stella Maris home in the town of Kortrijk, western Flanders.

Belgium's Roman Catholic Church has been repeatedly damaged by accusations of sexual abuse, part of a wider scandal which has shaken the Church and set off protests around the world.

The management of Stella Maris said it was aware of other allegations of abuse that occurred in the 1990s and asked possible other victims to come forward.

"The news has shocked the staff," the home said in a statement emailed to Reuters. "We have sent a letter to the parents of the children at Stella Maris asking everybody to make public any facts they are aware of.

"We hope the truth will come out and we will pass on all the information that the authorities require."

The police said they could not comment on whether anyone had registered a complaint of sexual abuse.

The man described to Belgian radio graphic abuse by several nuns from 1965 to 1970 and said the memories still haunted him. Reports of child abuse elsewhere had finally given him the courage to come forward, he added.

Elsewhere in Belgium, the former bishop of Bruges, Roger Vangheluwe, admitted last year to sexually abusing his nephew while a priest in the 1980s.

A church commission has looked into nearly 500 cases of abuse, and said last September that at least 13 people had committed suicide as a result of what they suffered.

In the 1960s, the Stella Maris home was operated by the Verrue order of nuns, which later merged with the Sisters of the Faith. A lawyer for Stella Maris said the board of the home still had several nuns on it but was now largely secular.

Meanwhile, another victim of abuse by nuns has come forward (same foster home). I have a feeling this is gonna get a lot worse.

This is just...

What did they do? My older generation was raised in an inner city Catholic School, the poor person private school and they got the living shit kicked out of them frequently by the nuns.

This is sexual abuse. The guy had to satisfy the needs of two nuns from the age of five.

I'm glad he had finally found the courage to come forward, hopefully he will find the help he need to get past the nightmares.

If there's anything I've learned in this world it's that I'm never going to let a religious representative anywhere near any offspring I ever have. Jesus fucking christ...

hot nuns?

Doesn't matter for a toddler, don't you think?

Anyway, the Belgian papers reveal more details. There was oral sex (no details on that) and one of the nuns put the kid's hand in her vagina. This went on for several years. He remembers one of the nuns had a lot of pubic hair and now he can't stand it if his wife doesn't shave.

You know what Belgium is famous for?

Chocolates and child abuse, and they only invented the chocolates to get to the kids

Lol @ In Bruges.. hilarious film. BUT this is not good news, there are more and more of these things popping up all over The Netherlands and Belgium. Fucking pedo's man, what the hell is wrong with them. And now it's nuns abusing little kids? WTF is the world coming too :(

That's pretty bad. But better than being abused by a priest imo.
If ever the facepalm gif was appropriate... :-/

I'm glad that the Vangheluwe Case a few months ago has made shit hit the fan. Once a few people got the courage to come forward and talk about the sexual abuse by church representatives in their past, it opened the floodgates, and the testimonies haven't stopped ever since. And now the first few cases of abuse by women are pouring in too.

Every single case reported is bloody awful, but I'm still glad that all the horrible stuff that has happened (and everyone knew about it, it was like a public secret) over the past decades finally gets uncovered, and the Church is dealt with accordingly.
