Given that it is apparently Arnold Schwarzenegger appreciation week, I have to highlight one of his oft-overlooked classic movies with the most ridiculous concept possible: Arnie as a... italian mobster?

To use the synopsis from IMDB.com

Mark Kaminsky is kicked out of the FBI for his rough treatment of a suspect. He winds up as the sheriff of a small town in North Carolina. FBI Chief Harry Shannon, whose son has been killed by a mobster named Patrovina, enlists Kaminsky in a personal vendetta with a promise of reinstatement into the FBI if Patrovina is taken down. To accomplish this, Kaminsky must go undercover and join Patrovina's gang.

A guy who looks nothing near like a mobster is to join a Chicago italian mob family? Really?

As a Schwarzenegger movie, its actually fairly impressive as the absolutely bloodshed doesn't really get going until late in the movie, but still sets up some brilliant lines:

Max (Played by Robert Davi): "I'm the best there is."
Arnie: "Max, if you're the best there is, the world would never have been invented."

Cop: "Joey P. Brennan. What's the 'P' stand for?"
Arnie: "Pussy."

Arnie: "I guess this what they mean by 'Poetic Justice'."

From trying to whack a rival boss to trying to steal millions of dollars of dope from a police evidence locker, this one was easily in the top tier of Arnie's movies.

Haha, I'm loving all the Arnie luuuuv this week. I like Raw Deal, but IMO it's nowhere near Commando or Predator, or Terminator 2.

I remember reading that Arnold hates that movie so much, he joked in an interview that he forces his kids to watch it (along with red Sonja) on a loop when they act up :lol

He should force them to watch Jingle All the Way

I just saw it last year for the very first time and it was pretty kick ass. Forgotten gem I might even say, it's kinda like Stallone's Cobra, only it's good.

To be fair, in Goodfellas as in real life, Henry Hill was Irish-American on his father's side and he had a nice career with the mob. He only noted that not being Italian meant he could never be a 'made man'.

True, but his other side was Sicilian. But again, you make a good point. Still, its funny to behold him trying to act 'undercover'.

I have not seen this movie since I was a kid in the 80s, but it will be on my Netflix que this weekend.

That is the beauty of threads like this: it reminds people of forgotten gems, movies they love, or brings new fans into the fold.

Thank you, JoeBoy.

Isn't it high time a thread was created for the appreciation of his work as a governor? People might be interested in that too.

I'm more stunned we haven't seen the Total Recall thread yet.

"Getcha ass ta Mars!"

That is coming. I am planning on that one. I want to space out the Arnold love.

I'm sure to pop-in, great movie and one of my favorites from Arnold if not my favorite.

It's definitely not among his very best, but it's a cool movie that strangely not a lot of action movie fans have seen. Excellent villain played by Robert Davi.

Raw Deal is probably one of the worst 80's Arnold movies, to many dialogues and too little action, that's a bad combination on an Arnold movie.

Max (Played by Robert Davi): "I'm the best there is."
Arnie: "Max, if you're the best there is, the world would never have been invented."

LOL, this was changed on the spanish dub, Arnorld actually says, "..the wheel would have never been invented" IMO sounds much less stupid. :lol
