Chris Doyle's LinkedIn proflie, who is now at Vigil Games, has a listing of the game under his time at Firaxis:
Projects:
Unannounced UnrealEngine3 title (PC,Xbox 360,PS3) - in development
Will Miller's resumé mentions:
Designed and developed major gameplay systems for an unannounced AAA strategy title for PC, XBox 360, and PS3 using Unreal Engine 3.

Another resumé, that of David M Jones, mentions the canceled Civilization Revolution II console game:
Meier's Civilization Revolution II (Xbox 360, PS3, 2008) – Canceled
Character Artist/Lead Modeler
Created high-resolution characters based on famous historical leaders and associated props for Civilization
Revolution II. Re-conceptualized and created new versions of existing characters from Civilization Revolution.
After four months, promoted to Lead Modeler and managed a small group of artists until the project was canceled.

I don't actually see anything indicating that this is an RTS game, so I'm going to edit your title a little bit if you don't mind.

Though, notably Civilization runs on Gamebryo, so presumably this isn't a Civ game or anything similar.

Do want Civ Rev 2. Just make it like Civ Rev 1, ability to be played via e-mail (USB copy saves) and network play in addition to more and more (but don't change the system to religion or whatever Civ 5 did).

Edit: CANCELED. BOO. :(

AAA title, heh.

"Hey guys, we're filming a five star movie!"

"Hey guys, I'm writing a New York Times bestseller!"

Please be a (RTS?) spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri.

I was going to agree, but RTS? I just want a sequel to Alpha Centauri...

What better engine is there for space marines than UE3?

I wasn't too impressed with Civ5 outside of its presentation, so I don't really have high hopes for anything mutliplatform from Firaxis.

There is no strategy in golf. Its a game of pure chance. Like playing the lotto.

SimGolf is more of a strategy game of building courses and managing it with actual golfplaying being a minor entity.

These days I equate "AAA" with "we're making this for the lowest common denominator dudebro audience and plan to spend more on marketing than developing the game. also, if we don't sell at least 5 million copies, it will be considered a failure."

I really don't want a RTS either but they said it's a RTS in development. And IIRC we'll never get a true AC sequel because of Brian Reynolds departure. Thought there was some issue with the licensing/rights as well.

I just can't believe that nobody has made some sort of sequel to AC... :(

I actually lost hope of this being one of those games when they mention consoles along with it.

AAA normally refers to budget size
That doesn't make it any less stupid.

It's a AAA title because they SAY it's a AAA title.
Some press releases recently have gone as far to say that they're developing a "90 or above on Metacritic" game.

This industry is disgusting sometimes.

I think it makes it a huge difference. People have also learned that the term blockbuster is not qualitative either.

I would love to see an example of this, if only to use the word pretentious in its proper context.

I'm just glad that publishers are still greenlighting strategy games, to be honest.

It wasn't a press release. It's just pulled from some guys resumé, and it behooves him to talk the project up. Of course he's inclined to say it's triple A.

Pirates! seems likely as it will have to render characters and is casual enough that it would fit with a 'console' port;

Other Firaxis IPs
- Railroads

Longshot
- Alpha Centauri II (unlikely)
though I don't see why they'd use UE3 for it and not a retrofitted Civ5 engine plus EA owns the IP.

So I think it is Pirates! unless we have a new IP.

Civ Rev II is canceled? WTF?

Unless they add complexity which I doubt the intended audience will appreciate, it will just be a reskinned civ Rev with random duebro features from the masses.

I really don't see a market for it, nor will casuals who tried out civRev want to rebuy a similar game.

Furthermore, they want console players to upgrade to Civ5 if they are so inclined and probably do not want another Civ product on the market to detract from it. civ5's development is already rocky.
