Clashes directly with MS's E3 conference, lovely.
I just imagine someone backstage at both conferences watching the other's liveblog just in case one drops some kind of bomb that the other needs to counter.

Doubtful, that's not how Apple rolls.

Just like a rap battle.

Hey iCloud!

Don't suck, OK?

The phrasing used in the PR "cloud services offering" implies it will be more than just music. If it is indeed an API then it immediately becomes much more attractive to me.

Wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft did, though.
Good luck beating the media hype that surrounds Apple conferences. Nobody's better than Apple at getting free advertising out of news coverage. Nobody.

omg Game Center cloud saving plz

The press release is titled "Apple to Unveil Next Generation Software at Keynote Address on Monday, June 6."

I would definitely hold off on any iPhone 5 announcement for this event.
One more thing.

Damn E3 week will be packed with stuff. And Apple isn't even really part of E3.

I wonder if they will give a solid release date for Lion...

I'm not even going to lie - as someone that really only exposed himself to OSX a few months ago with my new MBP, I am sooo looking forward to the whole full-screen app thing from Lion. My brain still doesn't like that button not doing what it "should" be doing.

some apps like Safari will have a new button in the title bar that enters full screen. the green button will (thankfully, for me) remain as a "zoom to fit" button.

but, yeah, most apps will make the green button the full screen button.

John Gruber doesn't think so. He says the only reason they announced iCloud today, is to set the expectations of no new hardware.

I'm excited. Even without hardware that's a lot of info. Have we heard much about iOS5? It seems like there hasn't really been too many leaks. Then I've seen some rumors about them potentially releasing Lion day of.

With this and the MS conference I'm going to come home to a shit ton of info when I get out of class.

I wouldn't mind a bit of an updated and refreshed 'look' to iOS5.

Shit be stale

I felt this way coming from Windows. Now I hate having apps full screen.

I've been using Lion developer previews since they started getting released. The full screen function is solid and it does what it says on the tin.

However the functionality of the full screen mode for select applications and the new Mission Control means that you do not expand an application across the desktop - instead you generate a new desktop that is that application. Logically this starts going against the habitual command bar changing according to the select application, but it does work.

Mixing full screen apps with Screens and Mission Control will make it extremely palatable for select tasks, I think, without feeling like a bunch of layers sitting on top of each other.

First of! Damn you Giga! I was just about to press the "Submit thread" button when I noticed you had beaten me :D Congrats son.

I don't think we can expect any leaks until just right before the event if at all. iOS 5 is kept tight at Apple and unlike their hardware or cloud service they have no need for outside partners who can potentially leak information.

Hardware launch for September event...new iPhone, new iPod touch, official release of iOS 5.

Yes please. Cloud gamecenter saving is should be a must if Apple wants to continue to promote the iPod touch as a gaming device (and iPhone).

My WWDC Wishlist:

iOS 5
+ Better notifications
+ Better utility of space on iPads (amount of icons per page)
+ Minor Safari tweaks

Lion
+ Please support my 32-bit Macbook :( (yeah, I know...)

iCloud
+ MobileMe on crack (Dropbox-esque syncing on all Apple platforms; make it painless)
+ Enough storage to back up iPhoto library
+ The obvious music streaming, but also TV/movie streaming

Is it too much to hope for an official Facebook client for the iPad?
Zuckerberg keeps on his saying that the iPad is not a mobile device and because of that will not get a client. Dumbest reasoning ever, not that it's impossible to use the web for stuff but I actually prefer using apps for all webservices. Not only does it feel more personal but they always tend to be more visually appealing while keeping all the functionality and making it more accesible.

On the feaseability scale of "is this actually technically possible?" could Apple pull of my dream:

- Safari Cloud, when I close my laptop, whatever open tabs and stuff on my browser would go to the cloud, and I could continue whatever I was doing on my iPad

Is it an impossible dream, or could something like that actually work?

No way that's like a pretty simple idea and want.
I'm sure you do but I really doubt that Apple would implement it, at least in a near future. They are focused on shipping iCloud first and will worry about additional features later on. Just like they always have with products.

Oh yeah, there is no way in hell they're going to offer that feature. But it's not some crazy futuristic tech dream.

I'm curious and skeptical about iCloud. MobileME was a colossal failure on every level.
I signed up and then couldn't even use it for like the first week or so.

Coincidentally I planned my vacation for the week of E3/WWDC. Excellent.
NOT coincidentally, I also took vacation for wwdc and e3.

Well, just two days. In previous years I took a whole week and combined it with a camping trip.

I do enjoy my annual geekout fest in June.

So the expected iCloud base we probably will get is their music service and nothing else?

I wouldn't assume that.

If anything, I think the syncing data from iOS apps and games would be free and the music data storage will cost money - like amazon once you pass a certain gb threshold.

But that's just my gut feeling.

There better be a free plan for iCloud. Why did Lala have to die? They had cloud streaming done better than Amazon and Google. :(

Also iOS needs a new look and GameCenter needs attention.

You might want to hang out with a friend who owns an android phone and check out firefox.

So what are the iOS 5 rumors right now? I want to see what they have planned for my new iPad 2.
New notification system, widgets, voice commands, Cloud services and new lockscreen are the rumors but there has been no credibly source for anything of it.
Vinterbird said:

I think at this point music is all we have confirmed but Apple has recent patents and such surrounding a DropBox like feature for OS X. I'm guessing they will offer some kind of API for it so developers may take advantage of it, maybe not directly with iOS 5 but certainly within a reasonable time after release.

You are not the only one :)

The MobileMe fiasco was of course not lost on Steve Jobs who reportedly told members of the MobileMe team that they "should hate each other for having let each other down."

At one point, Jobs asked his team what MobileMe was supposed to do. Upon receiving an answer he quickly fired back, "So why the f*** doesn’t it do that?" Jobs even invoked the name of trusty ally Walt Mossberg - who was critical of MobileMe - to drive home the point that the MobileMe rollout was a flop.

I believe Firefox already does this between the desktop and Android versions. So it's certainly not an impossible dream and is something I would expect to see from Apple pretty soon.

edit: oops, beaten.
