Welcome to Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2011!
I'm posting this for RK since he's unable. The event is now open!

This year the fiesta has its own homepage at http://www.letsplaying.com/FF5FF and its own Twitter account @FF5ForFutures

What is it?
You play Final Fantasy Five, the best Final Fantasy game. The only difference is, you are allowed only four jobs, one from each crystal. And they are randomly assigned to you. When you beat Exdeath, your picture must show all four of those jobs being used to qualify you as a winner.

Could you give a detailed version of that?
As you play Final Fantasy Five, jobs are unlocked at certain parts of the game. The wind crystal, water crystal, fire crystal and earth crystal. When you register for the contest you will be told your wind crystal job. When you unlock the water, fire and earth crystal jobs, send a tweet to @FF5ForFutures with #water, #fire or #earth respectively. You will then be informed of your new job!

What versions of FF5 are acceptable?
Any.

What if I have never played FF5 before?
It’s cool, you can still sign up.

How do I sign up?
When FF5ForFutures, the Fiesta’s twitter account, tweets “Registrations are now open!” just send a tweet to the account with #reg included in your message. You will get a tweet back confirming you are registered and your Wind Job crystal.

What if I don’t get any tweets back?
The twitter bot works on a schedule and will respond to tweets when it is able. Should ten or fifteen minutes go by, don’t resend the tweet, but let RevenantKioku know. He’ll look into it and if something is really gunked, manually set you up. It just may take a while if that is the case, but it shouldn’t be.

I don’t want to play, but I want to watch!
Feel free to check out the site and look at the logs of everyone, or the players individually. There will surely be livestreams, YouTube videos and even a few people making their own unique works here in this very thread.

What’s with that donation box?
This year, the FF5FJF is being played for Child’s Play! You don’t need to donate to play, of course, but your contribution, players or no, is appreciated!
The donation period will be from July 17th to August 31st. Ideally, you will want to beat the game within that time. But if you don’t, don’t worry! The site will remain operational until for a good while after that, although most of the fanfare will likely have cooled down.

Why is it on Twitter? I preferred it when RevenantKioku did all the legwork!
This way, people not on GAF can participate as well. Plus, with the framework in place this year, running the event from now on should be a breeze! RK has a son now (who is healthy, but part of the inspiration to do the event for Child’s Play)

But a twitter feed isn’t as interesting as the GAF thread!
Please, do feel free to still make your wonderful tales of adventure on the GAF thread. You can tweet “@FF5ForFutures #up My FF5 Story Part NUMBER <LINK TO GAF POST>” or something like that and people viewing the site will be able to click and be brought to GAF to see your wonderful work!

I have a question!
Send a tweet to @FF5ForFutures and you will be answered as soon as possible!

RULE UPDATE: If your Wind Crystal Job is White Mage and you are having troubles, you may use ONE FREELANCER until the water jobs.

I finished my entire run of FF5 on stream! All the parts are recorded and will be available forever on my channel.

I am neck-deep in Steam backloggery. I wish I could join, but I just do not have the time. Argh, if only one could cast Haste on himself in real life!

Still, good luck and have fun to everyone who enters. And kudos on the Child's Play initiative.

I loved following this last year as a non-member lurker. Don't have time to get involved but eagerly await reading your posts!

Love this.

I had no idea that RK had a son now - if he reads this, congratulations!

One year I will take up this challenge. I've never finished FFV :(

I got this game for GBA after last year's thread (and the recommendation from a friend, his favorite in the series).

Haven't played it yet, but this seems like a good opportunity. Hopefully I don't get stuck with extraordinarily crappy jobs for my first run. No twitter account though, but it wouldn't hurt to make one for this.

I sort of half followed last year's thread and thought that this seemed like it would be fun to do. So I think I'll try and participate this year.

Awesome. I was actually wondering if we were going to be doing this this year just yesterday.

I doubt I'll get a party has dominant and awesome as last year, though. My girls (and Bartz) rocked the house. Black Mage, Summoner, Geomancer, Dancer...so good.

That said, we need Twitter to register this year? I don't want a Twitter account!

You need Twitter because there's a Twitter bot that will automate your job generation and also allow you to post your progress to the site and such.

Is there a way to play this on PSP? I'd be down if so.

Either by using emulators or using the PSX version of the game from PSN... which isn't very good, but I guess better than nothing.

I was one of the original challengers that actually completed this way back when RK deviced it. It was fun, but i think once is enough for me personally. Would be nice to follow though.

I've followed the fiesta threads previously, but never had the time to participate. I think I should be able to join in the fun this year.

Now the tough decision - dig out my old SFC copy of the game and hope the battery still works, or play through on my barely used GBA copy?

It could be too onerous to play in Japanese if I end up with a tough job combo, but might draw in more donations. The portable version has the advantage of being able to play at work or out and about.

I was wondering when this was going to come around, seeing as how RK's been busy. Count me in for the third time! :)

EDIT: Also, great job integrating this with Child's Play, Aeana!

I didn't finish my run last year because the jobs I ended up with were kind of boring. Not sure if I'll enter again this year.

So can we get a head start today and play up until you get to pick your first job? Or is the idea that we get our job combos and then everyone starts?

If you start early, you automatically get RK's jobs from 2009 and are required to beat the Fork Tower.

Sound kinda complicated compared to the previous years.

Can you sign up and get your classes here or do you need to have a twitter account and tweet everything.

Part of the fun of the previous runs was having all the things contained in here. Allowing people to quickly see hows everyone doing and seeing who had the hardest and easiest runs and see how each progress and also discussion of strategies and stuff.

The only thing you absolutely need Twitter for is to get your jobs. You can still post everything here just as before. However, RK has also built into his site and bot the ability for people to get their updates put onto the site by tweeting to the bot as described in the OP. He even doesn't mind if you just tweet with a link to your GAF post. You don't have to do that, though, it's just an extra. The reason why he's doing it this way is just so that it can be more widespread than just GAF - you don't really have to change a whole lot about the way you participate.

Does that mean there will be a consolidated list of participants on the site as well?

What's considered the definitive version of FFV?
I prefer the GBA version just because the load times on PSX bother me. SNES is all right I suppose, but most translations I've seen I'm not terribly fond of.

SNES or GBA, your choice.

Man, I'm going to miss Red Scarlet and ixix arguing about Berserkers this round. :'(

GBA, absolutely. Unlike the other FF GBA ports, FF5 didn't suffer at all, and the GBA port has an intelligible translation unlike the other versions.

This would be a great opportunity for me to finally finish FF5. Not so fond of Twitter, but I guess for this I might actually create an account (and delete afterwards ;) ).

Alright, my buddy and I are getting in on this! We made a Twitter account to post updates: @FFVFiestaPortland. There's no info or content on there now, but there will be starting early next week. I'd flesh things out a bit more before posting here, but I have to leave town for the weekend in an hour, hah.

We'll be streaming live and seeking donations for Child's Play, so please follow us and spread the word!

Edit: We've had a ton of problems getting this set up, and have decided to wait till next year to be so ambitious. Sorry for flakin' out. :-\

That's not a bad idea. Streaming could be fun! I'll have to tune in.

I can't find my copy of the GBA version :(
I have the box and everything that came inside except the game :( :( :(

I have no issues with emulation but I wanted to play it on my Micro

I'll totally watch someone stream if they have good commentary :)

No chance for a PSP Complete Collection eh? Shame considering that V is definitely a contender for the Final Fantasy "cream of the crop".

I believe I'll join in with the GBA version this year. Always enjoyed reading the trials and tribulations of those who aren't so lucky.

Unfortunately I don't have a system to play my copy of FFVA on (should just buy a used SP probably), so I'll be content playing through FFIV:CC on my PSP. Really enjoying playing through it again - it's been years since my last play through of that one.

It would be awesome to get a complete collection style version of FFV!

I'm going to try this. I'm not going to be able to donate in that time frame but, I'll be sure to to give something before the year is out, even if it has to be a direct donation.

Damn, that's going to make the beginning of the game quite interesting for some people...

I know, getting a white mage would be like the kiss of death for the first section. No damage at all.

Imagine a Thief or White Mage/Berserker/Bard start. At least they get an earth class and all earth class are godly, yes even dancer, so it'll help no matter who they get.
