This is how EA plans to win the hearts of PC customers.
That's $80 and $105 USD respectively.
Maybe the only reason why they're not charging for Battlefield pre-orders is because of this quote "If you pre-order Battlefield 3, you will be able to play Back to Karkand at no extra charge as soon as it is released, but it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc. "

edit. Update, the £5 charge is quietly deducted from the supposed full cost of the game. It's not especially clear. The price is still quite ridiculous.
edit 2.
ghst contacted support for info and it seem that the game will be cheaper after release. By the same amount as this pre-order charge.

EA customer support said:ghst: if i buy after release, will i save £5 by not pre-ordering?
Jeremy: Yes
ghst: can you perhaps clarify that some more?
ghst: *could you
Jeremy: Sure
Jeremy: If you purchase the game after release you will lack the preorder items which you receive while preordering the game.
...
ghst: just to clarify, the £5 charge is purely for pre-orders, and the standard origin price will be £40 after release - but i won't receive the pre-order bonus items?
Jeremy: Yes
