viewtifulsub pointed this out in the other Deus Ex thread but I figure it's worthy of it's own thread.

It's been 4 years in the making, but Deus Ex : New Vision is finally seeing the light of day in it's full form. With around 75% of the world textures remastered at high definition, the project is finally complete - and is available to download right now!

Looks like the perfect opportunity to replay (or play) Deus Ex to get ready for Human Revolution.

I'll probably give it a shot soon, hopefully I can do another Deux Ex replay before HR is out.

How difficult is it to install the mod?

I tried out Deus Ex a couple weeks ago and didn't pass the liberty island level yet, game was fun though and aged surprisingly well in terms of gameplay. I got really far at one point and forgot to save then raged when I died so I stopped playing. Will definitely install this and give it another go.

edit - Damn didn't know it was 1.5gb, nice I guess it's the real deal. Hopefully it works with the Steam version.

From the readme.

Installation Instructions said:
INSTALL

1) Copy the ‘NVTextures’ folder into your Deus Ex directory.
2) Install a compatible renderer from the ‘Enhanced Renderers’ folder.
3) Open DeusEx.ini
3a) If you are using KentieÂ’s custom launcher, this is in Documents/DeusEx/System
3b) Otherwise it is in DeusEx/System
4) Under the heading [Core.System], there is a line ‘Paths=..\Textures\*.utx’
5) ABOVE this line, add ‘Paths=..\NVTextures\*.utx’ (without quotes).

Yes it does. The moddb download also comes with the newest version of the DX10 renderer and the newest OpenGL renderer (if you don't have a dx10 GPU).

Sounds like it works really well:

That New Vision mod is very good.

The installer also comes with an updated DX10 renderer, and a launcher that replaces the Deus Ex executable so it works flawlessly with the Steam version.

Too bad I won't give it a serious playthrough anytime soon with HR right around the corner.

I'm already using the DX10 renderer and the custom launcher. Can I still install this without messing that up for the Steam version?

Yeah. You just need to copy the new texture folder into your DX directory and point an .ini file to where it is.

It's all explained in the readme that comes in the mod's zip.

Kind of related but would anything in this guide conflict with this mod?

I have a general Deus Ex question. It's been so long since I'd played it, I can't remember:

What is the advantage of not killing enemies? I've been using the tranq dart, and it makes guys go bonkers for a while, and they are able to trip alarms before they pass out. On the other hand, sneaking behind them and whacking them with a crowbar does a one-hit kill.

Why would I not want to kill enemies? Is there any game play advantage, or is it just adding extra challenge for yourself?

Just gave it a quick run and it looks great. It would be nice if someone would make a redone character/weapon model mod to go along with this.

Play however you want. That's the beauty of it.

The weapons are still re-textured at least. The stun rod looks much nicer.

I just finished playing through the game w/ a previous version of this mod, between the DX10 renderer and the added textures the game feels like it is a good 1-2 years younger than it actually is.

This is keeping in mind that Deus Ex was not the looker of a game when it came out, which sort of "aged" the game right from the get-go.

Sam Carter likes you more and gives you extra shit but other than that no reason. Baton is the best non-lethal weapon also.

I'm going to be loading up this game in preparation for Human Revolution as soon as I beat Witcher 2.

Would you guys recommend using this mod for my first playthough, or should I stick with the original textures so that it is more "authentic"?

I really want to play the game, but I just have a feeling it will be too outdated, not only with the graphics but the gameplay too. I am not really interested in playing the game, I really am interested in the story and immersion from the game. Maybe I should see a YouTube story recap. I am really into consiracy storylines in games/movies, I heard this has a lot of shit on politics, illuminati, knights templar, area 51 and etc.

Didn't realize Baton was non-lethal. Good to know thanks

Can anyone post a graphical comparison before-and-after? I haven't played the game in years and I'm interested in seeing the difference side by side.

The gameplay is anything but outdated. Games have gotten dumber and worse since Deus Ex came out, not the other way around.

Every time I see a shot of that dock it brings back so many good memories.

I might give this another playthrough once I've exhausted Human Revolution.

Blasphemy.
