Eh, for the multiplayer part, it's not that bad of an ad. If it were the only ad released for the game then I'd be facepalming.

Right now, the 3DS is in good need of more pickup and play multiplayer games (RE: Mercs and the various fighting games are all it has) and this ad does a decent job of showcasing that.

Of course, Nintendo will probably release another ad showing off more of the main game. They have a habit of running multiple ads showcasing different parts of the same game.

But yeah, getting the game anyway..kinda lame commercial aside, at least it kinda gets the point around of local multiplayer and "fun matches" with friends (and the camera aspects been used).

That guy who was screaming, "You can't see me" was probably trying to live out his dream as a John Cena impersonator.

Utterly bad?Neither.
It shows multiplayer part of the game.
Then, probably, we'll see another commercial for the single.
However, NOA marketing department will gain respect again with the two Marios I think: I expect the unexpectable!
