Capcom's "Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G" and "Monster Hunter 4"
(tentative title) are confirmed for release on the Nintendo 3DS!

Capcom Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce its plans to release "Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G" and "Monster Hunter 4" (tentative title) for the Nintendo 3DS system.

The "Monster Hunter" series are hunting action games which take players on a hunt for huge monsters inside a world rich with nature. The games introduced a new kind of communication style, and created a "Monster Hunter craze" through cooperative play focused on hunting monsters with friends. Ever since the first game was released in 2004, our fan base has grown, and the "Monster Hunter" series has sold 18 million copies total.

By releasing the newest "Monster Hunter" on the Nintendo 3DS, we aim to further strengthen the brand by captivating Nintendo 3DS users, and adding to the existing fan base.

"Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G", scheduled for release on December 12th, 2011, utilizes "Monster Hunter 3 (Tri)" (Released on Nintendo Wii®, August 2009) as its base, and will contain new elements that take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS and its capabilities. Not only will players be able to enjoy the feeling of depth from the 3D perspective, but the game will take advantage of the system's wireless functionality. In addition to the familiar controls, a customizable touch panel will also make controlling the game even smoother than before. Finally, G rank quests, new monsters, equipment, and new supporting characters will be included in order to satisfy long-time players, as well as those who are new to the franchise.

Making games multiplatform is a basic strategy, and Capcom has strengthened the "Monster Hunter" franchise, as well as other popular brands, by using it. Capcom will continue to meet the player's expectations through superior developmental knowhow and research, and by choosing hardware that benefits our games the most.

Monster Hunter Finds New Home on 3DS

The Monster Hunter franchise has a new home, and it's 3DS. A 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 in the form of Monster Hunter 3G was widely expected ahead of its announcement last week. Today, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter 4 is also in development for the system.

The appearance of MH4 on 3DS is a more significant development than 3G. Since the first Monster Hunter, all "main" numbered entries have appeared on consoles, including the first two games on PlayStation 2 and MH3 on Wii.

The game's announcement came at Nintendo's 3DS press conference earlier today. A teaser trailer showed what looked like a more action-oriented Monster Hunter, with platforming elements. No details were provided, so it's unclear what form the new game will take.

At the press conference, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata confirmed that the new numbered Monster Hunter is in development for 3DS, but did not provide a release time frame or specifics.

Monster Hunter 3G did get a release date, though. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto announced a release date of December 10, a Saturday. Pricing is set at ¥5,800. Tsujimoto shared a first trailer for the game and also promised some 3DS-like features to be announced later.

The controller attachment that was shown in Famitsu's introduction article on Monster Hunter 3G last week was nowhere to be found at today's event. Nintendo actually has yet to formally announce it outside of the Famitsu article.

Is it definitely 3DS? The 3DS logo came up after the video was complete. Sort of have to be, but still surprising. Maybe a cross-platform release on some consoles?

Monster Hunter is on every system available. It'll definitely be on Vita at some point, in some form.

Capcom just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Monster Hunter 4 for 3DS, nor will they purchase any of Capcom's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Capcom has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel MH4 for 3DS or you can kiss your business goodbye.
