Nintendo of America: Q1 Software Lineup

Nintendo Unveils Deep and Diverse Software Lineup for Early 2012

New Kid Icarus, Pokémon, Rhythm Heaven and Mario Party Games Are on the Way

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– As some people hunker down for a long winter’s nap, Nintendo is getting things fired up. The first quarter of 2012 offers great new installments in popular franchises for both the Nintendo 3DS™ system and the Wii™ console. Nintendo has something for everyone, from family fun to three-dimensional adventure.

On the Nintendo 3DS system, Capcom’s Resident Evil® Revelations launches on Feb. 7. In a new chapter of the hit survival-horror franchise, players fight a new enemy and virus in 3D without the need for special glasses. METAL GEAR SOLID® 3D Snake Eater from Konami arrives in the first quarter of 2012. The game is a re-interpretation of METAL GEAR SOLID 3: Snake Eater, and offers a rich jungle world with customizable stealth and camouflage options. On March 23, the epic odyssey Kid Icarus™: Uprising soars into stores and lets players help the winged warrior Pit fight Medusa and her Underworld Army.

The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS will also be busy with a variety of downloadable offerings. Dillon’s Rolling Western™ brings tower-defense strategy and touch-screen driven action to the Old West. Armadillo ranger Dillon defends pioneer villages against waves of attacking rock monsters using gun towers, defensive structures and his own exciting attack abilities. In Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword™, players travel to ancient Japan and guide a young warrior as he battles waves of enemy soldiers. Players must identify the enemy’s attack, dodge and counter-attack with the mystical Sakura Sword to win the battle. The critically acclaimed VVVVVV and NightSky from Nicalis, mind-bending action of Mighty Switch Force from WayForward and immersive 3D visuals of Mutant Mudds™ from Renegade Kid™ round out a diverse selection of downloadable games.

Nintendo is also introducing an optional accessory that gives Nintendo 3DS owners a second analog stick to control compatible games. The Circle Pad Pro will launch in the United States on Feb. 7. It will be sold through GameStop stores and online at http://www.gamestop.com at a suggested retail price of $19.99. The Circle Pad Pro is a comfortable cradle that holds the Nintendo 3DS system while adding an analog Circle Pad on the system’s right side. The attachment also adds additional shoulder buttons to give it a feel more akin to traditional console controllers. It is designed as an optional accessory and is compatible with Resident Evil Revelations and METAL GEAR SOLID 3D Snake Eater.

On the Wii console, Rhythm Heaven™Fever arrives on Feb. 13 at a suggested retail price of $29.99 in the United States. The game asks players to test their rhythm in more than 50 easy-to-learn, tough-to-master minigames to prove they’ve got the groove. Two weeks later on Feb. 27, PokéPark™ 2: Wonders Beyond lets players take on the role of Pikachu™ and his Pals — Oshawott™, Snivy™ and Tepig™ — as they try to make it through PokéPark and discover the secrets of a mysterious new world. On March 11, Mario™ and friends reunite for a new party game adventure in Mario Party™ 9, which introduces new game-play elements to the series such as boss battles and vehicular travel across a wide assortment of stages.

Below is a partial list of upcoming games for Nintendo systems. Note that game titles and launch dates are subject to change.

Lock if old

Jesus Christ Nintendo. You have 3 Wii games remaining for the whole of 2012 (not counting Xenoblade etc). So, what to do with them? LET'S RELEASE THEM ALL WITHIN A MONTH.

Wow, eShop lineup constist mostly of quality titles...

New kirby title too ?

That Wii lineup looks terrible... 3 retread sequels and 3 music games. Must be WiiU stealing development time, right?

right?

i will personally slap every single wii fan who doesn't buy Rhythm Heaven Fever

infact, i'll just slap everyone who doesn't buy it. How hot? so hot.

Just cause they haven't announced games doesn't mean they don't have them coming. They've been announcing games a few months before they come out for a while now. Even one of their blockbusters, New Super Mario Bros Wii, was announced 5 months before it came out.

Rhythm Heaven on my birthday. W00t w00t. And Tales the next day. Nice Feb/March lineup, although I'm dying for Luigi's Mansion to hit.

RHYTHM PARADISE AT 30 DOLLARS?!??!

...

KIRBY ON THE ESHOP?!?!??!?!

What is Jett Rocket Super Surf? A quick google reveals... nothing. Is it still a platformer?

...Ooooooh, THIS is what Shin'en were talking about when they said that 3DS would have seen a Jett Rocket title, but NOT a sequel

There are a few things coming out on that list but really it's lacking. Espesially Wiiware. Hopefully, there's more to reveal at e3 this year.

Rhythm Heaven's coming at a budget price? Huh, interesting.

Very excited for it, hoping it comes out in a similar timeframe for PAL. Might be my most anticipated 2012 release!

I hope we see La Mulana soon but I get the feeling that Nintendo is just going to quickly release it and not give it any marketing push whatsoever.

NoA is jamming all of their announced Wii titles into a three-month span. Interesting. I thought they'd spread them out like in 2011. Since Wii U appears to releasing later rather than sooner now, perhaps some titles people want will be localized to fill the gaps. I'm thinking Pandora's Tower in May and The Last Story in July or August. Or maybe there will just be a six month console software drought because NoA has shown that they'll do that, too.

The language of that press release makes the Circle Pad Pro sound like a Gamestop exclusive. There could be several reasons for that. Whatever they are, I'm annoyed that it isn't bundled with Resident Evil like in Europe.

That's a surprisingly good digital lineup. With the dearth of 3DS games (the ones there are of presumably high quality, so I'm not really complaining), it's nice to see Nintendo using digital games to fill in gaps in the release schedule.

Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good Q1, especially since Nintendo usually has unspeakably horrible Q1s.

lol, I was thinking the same thing. Guess we might be getting Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Fatal Frame 2R after all? Plus DQX.

If I had a 3DS, I'd definitely be getting Tales of Abyss. But that'd be that from that list.

I'm still waiting for more RPGs to get this hardware; I can't really remember how long it took for the DS to amass a reasonable "library of rpgs"... does anyone here have more insight on this?

Nintendo's last 3 Wii games within a month? One of them at a budget price? Guess someone wants to have Wii dead as soon as possible.

And this "breathing" thing of Nintendo is on again. No first party title in first 3 months to make MK7 and SM3DL sell without any distractions.

First Xenoblade and now the the Circle Pad Pro is Game Stop exclusive? Fuck this, I'm ordering this direct from Nintendo.

Holy shit La-Mulana lives! Rhythm Heaven $30! Random Kirby game and Jett Rocket sequel announced for eshop!

Oh wait, Kirby Block Ball was just some breakout game for game boy. Meh.

Took long enough.
Final Fantasy III came out at the end of 2006/early 2007 in NA/EU.

With Pushmo causing me to make my first jump into the eShop as a paying customer I'm looking forward to buying more. Being able to add just the amount I need for a purchase was badly needed. The line up for it looks pretty good. Nothing on the Wii list interest me outside of the Xenoblade in April and that's going to be a birthday present. The 3DS retail line up looks interesting but going to be selective. Kid Icarus is a buy. Resident Evil: Revelations is a good possibility. I enjoyed The Mercenaries but never been a RE fan. I'd rather get Metal Gear Solid as I like that series more but it's quality is highly questionable compared to what Capcom is doing. If Monster Hunter Tri 3G gets localized though then both are out the window and I'll get that instead if it comes out around the same time. Either more titles will be localized in small numbers like Xenoblade or we'll get the normal drought right before a new Nintendo home console launches.
