Thanks to TenaciousNorth in the Humble Indie Bundle 4 thread.

Eurogamer / Get Games and Games Aid have launched LittleBigBunch, which contains these 5 games (sorry, couldn't fit them in the title):

- Frozen Synapse
- Explodemon
- Serious Sam: Double D
- Munch's Oddysee
- New Star Soccer 5

Its minimum price is £1.50, other than that, it's pay what you want, and you decide how much you give to the devs, and how much to GamesAid.

Only Serious Sam: DD appears to be Steam registerable.

seems like a fantastic deal. Been real curious about Explodemon, didn't realize there had been a PC release.

Nevermind.

I would get if it could be activate on steam but to be honest, indie games that are not on my steam I will forget I own after I play them once.

Looks like the site's getting hammered, weird time to launch with HIB having just occured. Good lord does all uppercase make me not want to read text.

So, I kinda feel like this is the sloppiest indie bundle yet.

- 3 of the games are on Steam, but only one activates on Steam.

- No mention of platforms so I'm guessing Windows only

- Stretching the definition of Indie

- Pounds sterling as reference currency (I have nothing against pounds sterling being a reference currency for the UK, but this is a PC bundle so it's worldwide so you should prepare for US and EU customers at the very least)

- The site is broken for me:
CB9Qz.png

- No donation leaderboard, no sale counter.

- You need to create an account to check out.

None of this suggests anything about the quality of the games or the charity, simply that the administration of the bundle itself seems bigtime sloppy.

Activation key for New Star Soccer, would like to know what the comes with for restrictions in terms of activation limits and such.
I'm not certain, but I think I remember the game being in two versions - free (5 matches per day restriction or something, no online leaderboards), and premium (£15, unlimited play, leaderboards). It's probably just a premium key which you apply to your account on their site.

Holy shit what a joke. You check out, you have to create an account, creating an account requires giving your PHONE NUMBER and MAILING ADDRESS.

Phone number: Yeah right
Mailing address: What the hell, amateur hour, Give me a Break, Canada

The fuck? Why the hell would they need those details? That just seems fucking backwards. No paypal or amazon checkout? Sloppy as all hell :/

Maybe I'll just wait. I assume it needs to match with Paypal and a bogus address would be rejected? Don't want on some stupid mailing list from this.

All I want is Explodemon. Seems like maybe I'll just wait for one of the DD services (come on Steam, wtf) to run a 75 percent Christmas sale on it.

Explodemon was rejected from Steam. :(

It's because it's run by GetGamesGo and rather than make a new architecture for this bundle, they just flood everything through their regular thing. You can pay via Paypal but you still need to create a GGG account while checking out. Absurd.

I used a throwaway mailinator email address and put what you see above as my address.

Note to non-UK users: The minimum is actually 1.50 in Euro/GBP/USD depending on where you put your checkout address from.

That's what I meant. WTF, Gabe? How could you reject this? Even comparing it to that awful looking SS:DD, it looks leagues better than that game.

I don't think it makes sense to do a like-for-like comparison. SS:DD was published through an established publisher who already had presence on Steam, and it was a tie-in to a (major-ish) commercial release. I don't think they should have rejected Explodemon, mind you, Curve Studios have worked with Sony and Nintendo, they're legit, and the only game in the same-ish genre is Splosion Man which is not on Steam... but I just wouldn't do a like-for-like comparison.

Yeah, I'll stick with HB for now. This seems like a hastily-thought out scheme to take some glory away from Humble and it failed.

Besides, what a bizarre mix of games...

...right. That's pretty dumb. :/

So I have a page with my 5 download links. Decided to start with Serious Sam because it activates on Steam. It opened a new tab, loaded for about a minute, and then just displayed my download link page. Then I looked at the URL it's linking to, and yeah, that's all it does. I guess they're going to email the activation code to me separately? *boggle*

Okay. This is embarrassing. The four non-Serious Sam games just have unprotected unpersonalized URLs to the installers. I'm at work. I remote desktoped to my home computer, opened the browser, pasted the link. I expected I'd have to login or put my checkout code. Nope. Everyone has the same EXE download URL. :/

Why is that a problem?

I... what? Was this bundle organised by a bunch of GCSE IT students for their project? That's horrible, and makes it easy to pirate this thing. Real shitty.

Why is that a problem?

It's a problem because it's going to lead to piracy of what should be a charity bundle. Obviously any links posted here will be removed and I don't condone screwing over indies and a charity, but the fact that it's even possible is shocking. It reflects the fact that this whole thing is really slapdash.

Even DRM-free services like GOG or other Indie Bundles still have personalized links to actually do the downloading--true, you can share a GOG installer EXE with anyone, but you can't download it from GOG unless you own it :p

Errored out while creating an account.

I'm just going to wait for Explodemon to go on sale and give all the money to the developer of the game. The whole thing makes me feel slimey at this point.

I know it's not a fair comparison and there are reasons SS:DD made it, I'm just saying Steam is filled with crap of much less quality. You only had to look at this bundle to see the example.

I'm all for Steam originally rejecting games like Nightsky when they have the max resolution set at a boxed 320*240, but Explodemon was uncalled for. Even if Valve thought it was an uninspired Splosion Man ripoff, that really shouldn't be their call. It should be based on quality. And even if it is a middling game, there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of games on Steam that are less inspired IMO. So it gets into ridiculous territory on this one. Unless there's something broken about the game that I'm unaware of.

So if you were to post those links here (not that you should), we could all just download the games for free...? That sounds very stupid.

Pirates will use torrents anyway, it's faster.

Maybe their goal is to let people share the games with their friends. :p

Evidently it would be, given that I'm getting 58 big kilobytes a second downloading Explodemon.

This whole thing is amazing. How HIB could pioneer the indie bundle system and nail it from day 1, and LBB be so inept after trailing a year behind is amusing if nothing else.

At least it's for charity.

I suspect they'll sort out the URL issue for bandwidth reasons. Not before taking all the downloads offline at least though I'm thinking the site will crash before that point.
Sorry, thats my "in their shoes I'd..." armchair critic moment

And some people were calling out indie royale as sloppy and uninspired.

THIS is how you do sloppy!
I thought it was more Indie Gala that got that flak, especilly with the Steam Key issuing bug they initally had (which was horrific due to only being Steam Keys) while Indie Royale was seen as hip because it did things differently.Thought, the general Indie Royale problem was misleading info (Sanctum DLC every 10,000 sales, no wait and the whole pre-order costs more than being the first person to buy).

I'm amazed at how bad it is, and a little embarrassed at having posted the thread. I'd assumed, as GetGames is Eurogamer owned, it would be at least competent. Seems I was wrong.

Hovering over the games on the bundle page brings up the description as white text on a white background, ensuring you can't read anything.

They also seem unsure of what the minimum you can pay is, as they specify both £1.50 and £0 in the same paragraph. If I purchase it I'll be paying more than that anyway, if only to support the devs, it's just a shame GetGames takes some of the amount to cover "running costs" when the running of the bundle is so amateur.

Speaking of which, less than 24 hours into it, it's already passed the 1 million mark.

Yeah, ah, I actually feel bad for guys like Curve. Should have just authorized some 75 percent off sales at the DD sites. Such a waste to have this be your first markdown.

Wow, a million sales is impressive. To be fair though, have you seeeeen that bundle? It seriously rocks.

I assume the £0 refers to the Charity/Developer slider since it says something about Charity a few words after.
Sounds like they hired IGNs proof-reader for that one.

Yes yes you're right. Too many bundles to keep track of.

I'm not buying this one. SSDD will be the same price probably during the steam sale.

I can't confirm if you can pay less than $1.50 because I'm not a bum, but I can confirm that you can give 0.00 to devs/charity (I gave my whole purchase price to charity, please don't grief me about this choice like the last bunch did in another thread)

You'd rather help starving kids in Africa than people with computers? You monster!

Well I payed... and when I hit "confirm" in paypal the site blanked out I guess. I try to go to my account on getgames and it says its offline (and yes paypal confirms my money was taken). Sure it will get worked out but this is pretty bad.

I got no email either. How am I supposed to get the dl info - do I get an email or webpage or what? I just want my serious sam steam key damnit.

You get a webpage. The webpage has four download links. No idea how you get your Serious Sam key. I haven't gotten an email yet either. If you want, PM me a screenshot of your Paypal receipt to them and I'll send you the download links to the other four games (Note to GetGamesGo: I am resolving your customer support issues for you!)
