Whatcha Been Playin': Pimp Your Console Edition

Modern Warfare 3

I pushed hard to get my gold PP90M1. I ran out of all my double XP time and getting from 77 to 80 is starting to feel like a chore. I might burn one of my tokens just for a few more hours of double XP.

Dragon Ball Z : Ultimate Jank

Alternate titles are Dragon Ball Z : Ultimate Loading, Dragon Ball Z : Ultimate Mash the X button, and Dragon Ball Z : Ultimate 'Where is my Super attack?'

This week I played more of the story mode and some of the game's flaws are really hard to overlook. There is a tutorial to explain a small chase sequence, but against a giant boss fight there is nothing. When I fight the giant ape Vegita I die. What makes it worse is it kicks me back to an unskippable cut scene (not all cut scenes are unskipable, jus this one), makes me load the over world, fly a short distance, and then loads the fight. Then I die and it repeats like the start of a bad ground hog's day. I want to love this game, but it keeps pushing me down the stairs.

Kinect Adventures

Some of the games are hit and miss, but the ones that hit make me want to play for hours on end. This game makes me smile so much, but I have a theory that it could be a trained responce to having my picture taken.

Fruit Ninja Kinect

My wife had me convinced that the Fenix rising DLC was story content so I used a 5 dollar credit to buy a 20$ point card from Best Buy. I found out that it was a map pack a few hours later. I decided to keep the point card and used half of it to pick up this game for my new Kinect.

I thought I had strong arms after a year of holding my son in my arms, but I am sorely mistaken. My arms ach after a few days of playing this game. I really enjoy it, better than I did on my phone, and the challenge mode has been where I spend most of my time.

If you can’t guess by now, I got a Kinect. This year has also seen me finally upgrade my Xbox’s HDD from 20 gigs to 120. I realized that I don’t want to pick up the new consoles when they first come out, so there’s no reason not to improve on my current set up. Later I plan on getting a bigger TV, and if I can find a way to properly set it up, a surround sound system. Also my wife and I have our eyes set on a reclining couch. Now that I can command my TV by the power of my voice, I feel like I’m living in the future, but that still doesn’t mean I don’t want to know people’s past so : “Whatcha Been Playin’?”

Radiata Stories

Almost finished with first playthrough on nonhuman side, then will go through it again on human path.

Got the platinum trophy in Skyrim the other day. Waiting for my copy of Back to the Future to arrive from.....videogamesplus.ca :(

Still playing Magic 2012 on XBLA wondering if the 2nd expansion will come out with the release of Dark Ascension.

- Starcraft 2: Always and forever.
- Skyrim: I really want this to draw me in like everyone says it will, but it isn't happening so far.
- Pushmo: Hella fun.
- Katawa Shoujo: Slowly working my way through Rin's route. <3
- Rayman Origins: When my two friends are also available for the co-op fun.
- Magic Online: The horrible money spiral has begun.

Gears of War 3. I'm addicted to Horde and have been climbing the leaderboards with my team. My goal is to be top 50 for all my favorite maps.

beat demons crest and half way through equinox for snes played and beat twisted metal 1 and 2 with all cars and now im going to play through 3 and 4 never played them before but i bought them a couple months ago gonna give those a shot

ICO:

I can totally see what everyone sees in it, but I can't get it to take a hold of me. It's a unique experience, but the combat is so horrible and uninteresting.

Warhammer Space Marine:

Picked it up today, seems extremely simple and nothing big, but simplistic weekend entertainment.

I finished Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom so I moved on to 007: Blood Stone. Its a decent game, kinda feels like it has the makings of a Bond movie. I'll move on to Assassin's Creed Revelations when I get done with Bond this weekend.

Dark Souls - getting destroyed in Anor Londo, good times

Super Mario 3D Land - playing around in the special worlds

Resident Evil Revelations Demo - kinda enjoying it, I think

also just finished the Bioshock prequel novel Bioshock: Rapture which was very good. So I'll be playing through Bioshock 1 and 2 again very soon.

Planescape Torment-
Got it a couple of years ago, but it wouldn't run properly.
I bougt the GOG version during the sale, installed it on a netbook and now I play it in bed and on the coach while the wife watches tv...

The nameless one is starting to kick ass and I really like the fucked up shit he gets in to.
I love my portable GOG device.

Going through a pretty epic 360 backlog, got one for Christmas and due to there being so many quality yet extremely cheap games, I ended up with 17 of them.

Just finished Assassin's Creed Revelations (fantastic!) and now am on to Bulletstorm.

Star Trek Online-Trying to figure it out, deeper then I thought but enjoying.

star-trek-online.jpg

AC-Revelations-Just finished this up, getting some trophies now.

New-things-in-Assassins-Creed-Revelations-1069226.jpg

Gundam Extreme Vs. - Gunning for the Platinum.
Might finally install the Super Street Fighter IV AE Ver.2012 patch this weekend too.

PSP has become my personal sanctuary… and revisiting PS1 games has been outstanding.

Silent Hill- playing in PSP has forced me to use headphones, and what a difference it makes, I'm jumpy as hell when a noise bursts out of nowhere

Tomb Raider Anniversary- damn this game is good, like Metroid:ZM was to Metroid.

PIGS9.png

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - I'm a SMT newb, and I am really enjoying this so far. Love the music, style, mature themes. Very cool. Excited to play more of these.

pwwcs.jpg

999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors - This game is definitely better than I thought it would be. I was expecting a ho-hum sort of visual novel like Trace Memory, but the storyline in this really strikes a chord with me. I love movies like Cube, so I guess it makes sense.

Zunw7.jpg

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - I figured I would get bored with this pretty quickly, having just played through it and every other mainline Zelda with my friend over the last year. We played them all in preparation for Skyward Sword, which I couldn't be more disappointed with, so going back to OoT seemed iffy. But I'm really enjoying it! It's a game I've undervalued in the past, but playing it right after hating Skyward Sword gave me a whole new appreciation for its tight design and simple pleasures. Very pleased.

Fixed my PC, turned out I just needed a beefier power supply, so it's been pretty much just:

Saints-Row-The-Third-Announced-Elite-Crime-Organization-At-Its-Finest.jpg

55% done. I think it's about time to rush through the story just so I can call it complete. Will return for DLC and side stuff though for sure.

EDIT - I'll go ahead and share this here too:

Orbitron:

Fun XBLIG shmup to pass the time while listening to podcasts. Trying to break the 1 Million mark this weekend.

El Shaddai:

This game is weird.

Darkness II (Demo):

Tried it once, liked it on hard will pick it up when released.

Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning (Demo):

360 and PC versions, will pick up the 360 version when released.

Skyrim:

Fooling around with some mods on PC.

Mother 3 (GBA) is a fantastic game, seriously. I think it's in my top 5 JRPGs of last gen.

Star Wars: The Old Republic - Still fun at the moment, so that's cool.

CoD: MW1 - Yes....MW1. A couple friends and I decided to revisit this. Still runs beautifully, though you run into the occasional cheater (noob tubes fire as if they were machine guns, etc).

Starhawk!

Fight Night: Champion - Just picked this up yesterday on a whim. Pretty good so far; I am hoping that the online community isn't dead. I used to be pretty damn good at FNR3 online.

I just finished Bioshock 2 and its DLC; Minerva's Den. The dev team clearly saw this as more than a cash in sequel because both stories were very well done and the gameplay is a huge improvement. Pacing with the adam collection and capturing the feel of being a Big Daddy could have been tedious for the player but they created the experience flawlessly. Subject Delta and Sigma, your characters, are insanely powerful after only a few upgrades, but not so much that any semblance of a challenge is lost. The frantic firefights and drill dashes to protect your little sister are a joy and these escort/protect objectives could have easily been a disaster if 2k Marin hadn't provided tools that gave the player a strong sense of security.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but the sequel might actually be better than the original. Re-tread or no, it's fantastic.

I'm only in the first hour but it's been fun so far. I look forward to playing some more of it once the weekend gets here.

Rage (PS3) - Finished it yesterday. Can't really say I was too disappointed by the ending, since I already kept my expectations low.

bREjR.jpg

Uncharted 3 (PS3) - I took a hiatus, but I think it might be time to come back.

vj8yK.jpg

Battlefield 3 (PS3) - I'm going to try and slog through the campaign then get back into multiplayer.

500x_dead_space_2_boxart.jpg

On the final Chapter and even as a huge fan of the original, I am REALLY LET DOWN by this sequel.

There is almost no creativity in this one. Practically identical to the first game with a few new guns, enemies, and setpieces. Tack it on to the first game as a continuation and it would be almost impossible to tell it is a sequel versus a 12 hour expansion pack. The story and characters are terrible. The gunfights are mostly great, but just like the first game, enemies occasionally spawn from behind with no indication and frustrate as they grapple you. Way too many areas that put the player in tiny closed off zones to fight that belies any tactical method to survive(elevator, tram, etc...). The final couple chapters seemingly just throw endlessly spawning enemies mixed with an unkillable creature to escape from that makes me consider not even bothering to finish.

Wasn't able to play it at launch, but a year later full of excitement, this is a limp ass sequel. Eye poke scene was great though, and will probably be the only thing I remember at all from this.

Puzzle Quest : Challenge of the Warlords

Demon's Souls

Went back to this to give it another try. Still not really liking it much. Think I'm done with it.

PixelJunk Sidescroller

Loving this. The art, music, and just old school feel to it are amazing.

LIMBO

About 2 hours into this and liking certain aspects of it. Some of the trial-and-error puzzle solving/obstacle avoidance can get frustrating, but overall I'm liking it. Sound design is amazing as well.

This...

White Knight Chronicles II online

Also:

and
MW3
Dungeon Siege III
Battlefield Bad Company
Shrek: Forever After
(and whatever else my daughter wants to play co-opp in)

For some reason I felt like playing Kane and Lynch 2 again. So I guess that's what I'm doing. Thinking about finding a co-op partner. Game is so much fun to look at. I really hope they keep the 'Video streaming' effects in the inevitable 3. I'm also in love with the depiction of Hong Kong, and I'm not sure if I'll like any different setting. Maybe a Detroit.

Really just playing the waiting game until Kingdoms of Amalur, SSX, and most importantly, Binary Domain.

Not feeling current gen stuff, again. Decided to regress back into playing PS2 games. Total comfort food gaming for me. Don't think I'm going to touch a next gen game until Binary Domain comes out. It's like the only game I'm REALLY looking forward to, so far this year.

Drakengard: Beat this way back when it first released, but never saw all the endings. Currently at 40% weapon collection with 80% of the story revealed. I really want to see the secret, final ending that apparently links to Nier.

Growlanser Generations: Been playing Growlanser 2 off and on for about a month now. I believe I'm nearing the end of it. About to infiltrate Wolfgang's Mercenary Fort. 13 hours in and still enjoying it for the most part.

Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies: Just cleared this game on Normal a few nights ago. Only took me 3 hours, but I loved it. The storyboard style anime cut scenes were so cool and the overall plot was heart felt and warm. Only thing I disliked about this AC title was that there were too many 'destroy enemies until you reach X amount of points' missions. They went overboard with these. Not sure if I'm going to fly back into this one and start S Ranking/unlocking all the planes/parts, etc.

Grandia III: Was in the mood to play this when I read a thread about Grandia on GAF. Only a few hours in. God damn though, I forgot how good the battle system was in this game. So good!

Raw Danger: Thinking about starting this game up again this weekend. Never finished it with all characters. I need to complete this game entirely, it's so overdue for me because I loved Disaster Report so much.

Ape Escape 3: Got 100% with the boy character WAY back when it first released, but never 100%'ed the girl character. I have also never finished the survival mode and MGS monkey mission. Probably going to work on this during the weekend.

Mega_Man_X_Collection_Coverart.jpg

Been years since I tackled these games, so I'm running through X1-6. Played X3 yesterday, X2 the day before, and X the day before that. Gonna play X4 tonight, but not on the compilation -- gonna go with the slightly better Saturn version. X4 is my favorite in the series, because it kicks all kinds of ass.

I'm in a real survival horror mood since everything coming out of Capcom and Konami has been crap aside from the Revelations demo.

Amy - played the first two chapters, feels like the flashback guy made a horror game. I'm not sure why everybody is grabbing their pitchforks. Aside from the first cutscene the framerate has been fine and the screen tearing isn't any worse than most hd twin games.

Resident Evil 0
Silent Hill
Clock Tower

might throw in some wii stuff

Muramasa
spyborgs
rayman

Chances are I'll focus on Amy and Resident Evil 0

So true. It took Maverik Hunter X to come out on the PSP before I liked another X game better than this one.

Platinum'd Uncharted 3 earlier in the week so I'm taking a bit of a break from Uncharted now despite the DLC having just come out.

Afterwards I decided to carry on with Rage (360) and I've ended up finishing that too which was actually really good, despite the lackluster ending. I've just got the coop missions to finish to get all of the achievements (GT: Expozee, I need a partner!).

Also put a bit more time into Forza.

Think I'm going to take a break for a couple of days, feeling a bit burnt out and not in the mood to game. I'll probably be starting batman next,.
