Why is he giving that money to that corporate shill Obama? We need him out of the white house, not in. He should of gave it to Ralph Nader.

Fighting fire with fire, all villages burning now.

Joke post?

It's Door2Dawn, of course he's serious. That said, in this case he's not terribly far off the mark. Except for the Ralph Nader part, that is just lol

I like Maher just for stirring up shit.

Anybody wanna take bets on what the biggest individual SuperPAC contribution will be this year?

+/- $50 million?

President Romney would likely look very similar to President Obama policy wise. The Dude is as centrist as they come even if he is pandering to the base right now.

Actually, he wouldn't. Not because he is more right-wing than Obama, but because the dude has no conviction whatsoever.

Also, if Obama gets elected it will be his second mandate. The second mandate is when you get to see the real version of a president.

Romney isn't gonna rock the boat. He'll toe the Repub line, whatever it is at the time.

Also, if Obama gets elected it will be his second mandate. There will be much less need for him to pander and thus I think he will be able to get more done.

Ok, but he didn't do what he promised. That's why I'm voting for the republican. I'm gonna show him a message!

That's laughable. Romney was only centrist in Massachusetts because he was in a liberal state filled with a liberal legislature. He has no core ideology except liking power and money, and he'll sign whatever our batshit insane Republican Congress puts on his desk.

Gotta say, pretty funny and largely on point. This guy is going to get assassinated by some Republican or GOP member lol.

I call bullshit. Mitt's a windsock. I fear for America with him in the White House, especially with the party-of-lunatics potentially in control of congress.

Obama's not perfect but all you have to do to feel good about him is look across the aisle to the other side and remind yourself of what the alternative is. And 3rd party candidates right now are pipe dreams and need to be treated as such.

No President can ever do what they promise. Congress just doesn't let it happen. But you're far better off with somebody like Obama who has ideals than a candidate who will succumb to the highest bidder.

Exactly. Romney has as much conviction as a goldfish. He caves to everything and just wants to be in charge.

I posted this in the Poli-gaf community thread just a while ago when brought up. While this thread has drifted towards speculation on how Romney will govern (If there is this much speculation on whether he will be a centrist, hard-core conservative or simply toe the party line, you know there is a problem), I still think its relevant in regard to whether Democrats should embrace this sort of thing.

I forget which show it was (Either the Atheist Experience or the Nonprophets) or which episode but I remember Russel Glasser discussing the dangers of self-imposed rules your opponent doesn't follow in the context of Starcraft. You can call Zerg Rushes cheap, but there are counters to them and simply not using that strategy, expecting your opponent not to and bitching when he inevitably does is simply setting yourself up for failure. There are rules in place that you both have to follow and you shouldn't be imposing additional ones on yourself just because of your mindset.

Still, this definitely doesn't feel right.

Super PACs in general make me weep for the country's future. This is going to amplify corporate corruption in ways that people can't even begin to imagine.

Do you think Romney would veto any bills coming from a Republican controlled congress?

And Romney is not a centrist, that is a falacy. He was forced to the center in MA due to the liberal government in the state, and even then, he wasn't thoroughly a centrist.

At some point in the future, the GOP will (for some amount of time) control both the legislature and executive. And that scares the shit out of me.

Probably about the same amount of vetoes Obama would

It's a moot comparison, because the type of bills with a GOP controlled legislature would look radically different with Obama versus a Republican in office.

The democrats right now have the senate to balance out the republican House. The agenda Obama sets also ranges from leaning left to centrist to sometimes leaning slightly right. If Romney wins, it would most likely mean that the Republicans will keep the House and win the Senate. What kind of agenda do you think he will set and what kinds of bills do you think will be passed? (hint: take a look at some of the bills passed in the Hiuse since the Republicans took control). Furthermore, what type of people do you think he will nominate for important positions, such as Supreme court justices?

This is one of the most surprising things I've seen this cycle. It just doesn't seem like Maher is ever happy enough with any candidate. Let alone happy enough to get $1m to someone.

Santorum probably has him spooked rightly so though I still dont think Santorum has a chance in hell. Even if he somehow got the nomination there is no way hed pose a real threat

At this point, polls are showing Santorum to be just as, if not more electable than Romney. Not that I would believe that would necessarily hold in a general election, but this nomination has taken a huge toll on Romney's likability.

Didn't Romney say that the #1 quality in a Vice President (of all things) is that they are pro-life? He is clearly willing to promise anything at this point.
