Gabe Newell: "We are not announcing anything at E3

Forum member tabernumse has posted an e-mail response he has received from Gabe Newell with regards to plans at E3.

"We are not announcing anything at E3. Really. We are not announcing Half-Life 3 or Portal 3 or Left 4 Dead 3. We are going to be showing stuff everyone already knows about (CS:Go, Dota 2, 10' UI, ...)"

For those unsure on the legitimacy of this correspondence with Gabe, we have personally been forwarded the email, video evidence and further confirmation from Gabe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he explicitly denied things that turned out true before? I seem to remember some explicit denial in the lead-up to Portal 2-on-PS3.

Edit: Technically, Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is "Something everyone already knows about" and is therefore not an announcement. Food for thought.

While this thread does make sense in light of all the speculation, a thread about someone saying we wont have announcements is more mind breaking than a thread about an announcement of an announcement.

He didn't say no HL2:EP3, a known title.

Did he just confirm Half-Life 3 is real, but nobody knows about it yet? Sweet!

Valve staff freely walk around wearing Half-Life 3 shirts.

Because they're cunts.

Dang, looks like we're going to have to wait until Gamescom for Half Life 3, Portal 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 to be revealed instead.

So instead of announcements of announcements we're moving onto announcements of no announcements...

Still sucks, have Valve had any history of reveals for E3 (besides the Sony conference)?

I think the big downside to no managers is you can't effectively manage projects or release things in a timely manner.

Did they say something to the same effect last year when they cancelled their E3? I wont believe anything they say!

Well, there goes most of my interest in E3...

I don't know if it was revealed then, but the Half-Life 2 debut at E3 was the first time I ever remember seeing footage of the game running.

No. That's the "downside" of being a privately held company. You have no accountants demanding a game hit Q4 regardless if it's a POS or not. EA may hit their deadlines, but they have no qualms about the gaming being a turd. Quality isn't important, keeping the books in order is the biggest priority.

I'm pretty sure DOTA 2 and CS:Go are still coming out this year, and will sell just fine without an E3 stage demo.

I know Gabe is a nice guy and all, but I mean seriously, this is just some bullshit.

If they're working on HL3, why not just fucking SAY IT? What's the big deal? What would happen if they did? The world implodes? Stock market crashes? They don't even have to show shit.

It can come out 2 years from now, why not just SAY IT!???

*breathes*...

Final Fantasy vs 13 syndrome. Announcing a game when it's still in the concept stage, 5-7 years later people are breathing down your neck about it. If a game isn't announced, it doesn't exist.
