Anti-tablet gamers, are you interested in Microsoft Surface?

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
It'll be on Windows 8/RT. It'll definitely be using Xbox Live. It'll have some games like Skulls of the Shogun. I assume you'll be able to connect a controller to it with USB or something. Plus Mark Rein is hyped. Will this be the tablet that will please everyone for tablet gaming?

Yeah, though not for gaming purposes necessarily. Same could be said about the iPad 3 though, I'm more interested in web browsing or reading stuff on that than playing games.

Disappointed with that 16:9 aspect ratio for the former though, but I was expecting they'd stick with that.

With PCs, three consoles and two handhelds, there are so many better ways to play video games that I cant for the life of me see why anyone would want to use a tablet for gaming.

Well if I can get something that gets the top 5% or so of iPad apps ported to it, a useful tablet interface for using on the go, then at home I can plug in a M+K and play all the non-demanding games in my Steam catalog (which is probably 90% or so) in normal Windows desktop mode, well yeah, I am rather interested in that. That's just the x86 Pro version though, the ARM speced devices doesn't really do much for me.

Mark Rein is really hyped for this.

Microsoft NAILS IT! Way to go Microsoft! Surface looks AWESOME! Can't wait to get some Unreal Engine games on those babies!

RT @sjparis hardly any specs though. Shouldn’t we wait until product can be tested before we all get super excited? <-I trust Microsoft

don't know about "Anti-Tablet" gamers, but as far as functionality goes, the keyboard and that USB port (you can plugin a 360 pad, works with win8) makes it a lot better than other alternative tablets for gaming.

Not for games but the tablet looks very cool. Probably won't get one tho, I'm fine as is carrying my laptop around honestly. I don't need a tablet.

Incidentally, that Mark Rein tweet is one of the most eye-rollingly blatant pieces of PR drivel I've seen in a while.

I mean as far as tablets go this having windows basically means Steam integration eventually, wich is a first for these. I can see it working well with smaller and older games.

Nope. I like buttons. If traditional handhelds are on the way out, I'm simply going to game on my laptop or quit gaming altogether if laptops someday stop being made.

Indeed, I'm not sure how a modern PC game could run on it, considering some of them require 30 gigs or more of hard drive space.

Hell, my 4 year old semi-gaming laptop has a 750 gig drive in it that is 90% full.

really should read up on what this thing is

Finally tablet that can replace owning a pc. This thing looks amazing and will be my new pc solution when it launches. I hope it wont be priced much higher than an iPad.

MS... shut up and take my money.

I wonder what integration this will have with the Nextbox? You'll likely be able to navigate the Nextbox with it but it would be cool if you could stream stuff to it as well.

If it has USB it has buttons.

I'll be there for the Pro day 1. I'm not sure how much it'll be used for games though.

Going to be a bomb just like the Zune... I own 1 :(
I think there's a better chance at success, Xbox aside Microsoft's big failures were trying to enter entertainment and more casual markets, and this is more business focused. However, it's also why I'd go with the x86 version: if this falls through you can just treat it as a laptop instead with better reading functionality.

anything without a proper controller will always be for a casual fix for me

it's fine because touch and casual games work great

Are their any specs on screen size, ram, cpu, etc?

MS is keeping quiet on the specs, pretty much following suit with Apple and Nintendo. "It's not the specs that matter, it's the experience we're offering"...whether you buy into it or not is something else.

Screen size is listed as 10.6 in OP.

Rein's only hyped because he sees it as Infinity Blade 3 machine. A new license to print money.

Looks like a compelling device but probably not for gaming. The marketing is quite condescending.

Well, it DOES have a USB port, so I imagine you actually could use the 360 controller to play games on it. Not how I'd want to play games portable though.

Honestly? It's tempting. I don't have a laptop, but have an iPad 2 and I'm very happy with it, but it's in no way a substitute for an actual laptop. If with this I can have the best parts from a tablet (fast, light, portable) plus the best parts of a laptop (keyboard, Windows, Steam, vidyagames), I'm totally game.

We just need to know the price and the battery life, but Microsoft seems to be on the right track.

if it can handle AvP Classic i'll be gaming the shit out of mine when i get a Pro version, and i have no interest in tablet gaming.

but then i'll be plugging in a mouse and using the keyboard case (the more expensive one)... so it's really just a super portable uber adaptive laptop at that point.
