I'll be buying this day one - as always.

There's nothing duller than Fifa Manager Mode, I'm still baffled as to why people play it. If you want a management game, go play football manager. If you want a football game that's great to play, play against some actual human opponents in head to head. Manager Mode is some bastardised version of the two, yet isn't as good as either.

I want to hear how they've tweaked Head to Head seasons. I managed to get to and win the top division, and now it sort of feels like I've done everything. My urge to go back and reclaim my title just isn't there. The rewards should be greater for continued success.

I want to know how they've tweaked Be a Pro too, and if they've finally removed the ridiculous input lag.

Once again they say they're improving Manager Mode. What are the chances that yet again it's one step forward and two back?

I really hope they improve the VP part of the game. The online team systems of the Virtual Pro's definately need a change.
The way your teams get matched is very random and the hidden use of sliders just ruins the overall experience.

I don't know why... but this suddenly makes it a must buy.

If you've ever tried managing a club and country at the same time in Football Manager (in which it's been a feature for yonks)... well, I don't find it fun at all. Better to focus on one over the other.

List of new features in CM:

International Management

  • As your reputation as a manager grows in Career Mode you will now be offered the chance to manage International teams in addition to the club side you are already playing with.
  • Your performance and manager reputation in Career Mode dictates the quality of the international offers you will receive.
  • Your nationality and the league you manage in will also effect the type of International offers you receive.
  • Rumours about interested nations will circulate in the press for some months before you actually receive a firm offer.
  • Squad selection will be a key part of your International management duties and deadlines for selections (one week prior to friendlies, one month prior to tournaments) have to be met.
  • International competitions will run in parallel with the club game meaning you could land a job in the middle of a qualifying campaign.
  • International management has itÂ’s own Career Mode “Hub” keeping your club and country separate.

In Match Live Score Updates

  • Whilst playing your Career Mode matches youÂ’ll now receive audio updates from other games being played in your league voiced by Alan Mcinally and Geoff Shreeves.
  • The live updates cover goal, red card and penalty incidents.
  • Example – Shreeves: “Goal at Anfield, FulhamÂ’s Clint Dempsey scores a brilliant freekick to make it 2-1, 73 minutes played” Tyler “Thanks Geoff”
  • You can select/de-select the matches you want to hear audio updates from prior to playing starting your match.
Player Stories

  • Interaction with players is now more regular with instant feedback received based on managerial decisions.
  • Player Stories can now run for months in to Career Mode re-emerging if you go through a bad run of results or when you sell/buy a key player.
  • Specific Player Stories also occur when managing an International team, meaning youÂ’ll need to keep both club and country happy.
  • Fan stories will now make top news in the press based on team performance.

Be A Player

  • Once youÂ’ve chosen your player (VP or real) you receive a set of Season Objectives to complete from the manager. The type of player you choose (forward, midfielder, defender, etc) will shape these objectives.
  • As well as Season Objectives youÂ’ll also be asked to achieve objectives every four matches. This could include, goals, clean sheets, pass/tackle completion percentages, etc. The quality of opposition over these four games will decide the values you are asked to achieve.
  • If you are unhappy you now have the option to request a transfer, or request a loan to gain more match experience.
  • If you choose to play for a top club with a low rated VP you will not be a first team starter to begin with, youÂ’ll be loaned to gain experience first.
  • If fatigued or playing poorly the manager can now substitute your player.
  • Once your playing days are over can can opt to retire and take up management.

Classified Results

  • After each Career Mode match you now receive a rundown of the classified results through in-game audio (think BBC Final Score)
  • League table updates are also fed back to you as well as any upcoming fixtures. These audio sequences happen less regularly than the classified results.
  • When this audio is running you can still browse all Career Mode menus and continue to the next game week.
Managers Office

  • You can now view any available managerial positions via the Jobs Board, this allows you to change clubs mid season should you wish to.
  • Your manager now appears on the touchline in matches based on customisation options chosen at the start of Career Mode.

Transfer Negotiations
  • The transfer system has been completely re-written for Career Mode in FIFA 13.
  • You can now offer player plus cash and player trade deals to the CPU.
  • When offering to loan players you can now set a future purchase price to sign the player permanently at the end of the loan period.
  • When the CPU makes an offer for one of your players you can now choose to “Counter Offer” to ask for more money. The CPU will then choose to accept, reject or make a counter offer of their own.
  • Contract negotiations now contain advice from your Chief Executive which act as a guide to what they think the club and player may want.
  • When offering contracts you can now choose a role for the player youÂ’re trying to sign eg Crucial Player, Important Player, Future Star. This expectation will effect whether a player chooses to join your club.
  • Prior to making a firm offer you can now make an Enquiry to find out whether a player is available and how much the club want for them.
  • You can now make offers for players directly from media stories by pressing the left stick.
  • A new Financial Strictness setting will limit the percentage of players sales that go back in to your transfer budget (chosen at the start of CM).

Breaking News

  • A new “Sky Sports” style overlay will now deliver breaking and top news to the Career Mode hub.

Edit Players

  • You now have the ability to edit player appearance during your Career Mode seasons. This option can be unlocked via the new EASFC Catalogue.

User Interface

  • You can now read news articles from the media pane whilst the game is advancing.
  • The first time you enter Career Mode menus a tutorial overlay appears to guide you through each panes function.

I dont understand the hate for Manager Mode in FIFA. I vastly prefer it over Football Manager tbh.

Every year they say they improve it and it's still tripe.

They improved the league table positions to make it more realistic yet then go and spoil that by making the transfer market woeful. David Silva moving to Arsenal, Javier Hernandez signing for Stoke and players moving every window as though they're Carlos Tevez in terms of never happy.

At long last they've added cash plus player deals.

I don't hold out much hope for this year's Manager Mode. They're bound to mess something up. Probably the league table.

What?!

It's shit. Playing against the AI pales in comparison to playing against an actual human opponent, and the management aspects are terrible. It's not even a management mode, really. It's basically picking the team and making transfers, then playing. That's not being a manager. That's being a watered down player-manager.

Each to their own, but I thought it was rubbish, and that's before the bugs. My mate lost an entire save due to a bug with custom formations.

Master League mode in PES is still a far better career mode than FIFA's manager mode.

Without doubt.

It's got better youth and player development, better transfers, and I find it funner to play against the AI in PES.
Same. Plus I like the fact of controlling your favourite team, but having the option to be given a team of nobodies, and slowly developing players or buying a player or two a season to gradually improve as funds allow - being given the real team straight away with no real need to buy better players takes a lot of the fun out of things I find.

Surely the H2H win unlockable is a mistake. Then again, this is EA.
Doesn't seem to be sadly. Checked the tweet again and they link to this screenshot:

"Online Seasons Win - 1500". Ugh.

Then again, career mode rematch is bullshit also. you lose you lose.
Yep. I also see "Scout future star" in that screenshot too. Wonder what other auto-win style cheats EA has put in the game this year? :/

Edit: From that screenshot, the cap per day is 2000 points. An online auto-win is 1500 points. So you could technically spend your daily points on one win per day (two wins each 3 days) and have an "unbeaten" record if you didn't play any actual competitive matches? What an awful idea.

probably you can get each bonus only once..so you can get only one bonus victory in H2H,the rest you hve to earn it yourself

anyway, how exactly you get these pojnts?only by playing?hope that doesn't involve real money

I hope you're right. It could also be that that's to unlock the option, and then you get a certain number of uses, once a day or something. I hope it's neither to be honest, paying to "earn" victories online is a ridiculous idea.

OP's pick looks alot like flick-kick mobile game. Thinking this could be perfect fit for WiiU's game pad.

True FM players have at least 3 clubs in different leagues going at once. Often managing a country at the same time.

True but the fact you are stuck with one club for the whole duration blows. It is absurd that still today PES does not allow the opportunity to change clubs during the career mode!!

Any news on if the Vita version will have all of the same features as the console game?

this is what was updated last week on the PlayStation official site.

EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 13 on PS Vita gives you the same physics-based, data driven technology that powers FIFA gameplay on PlayStation®3. Take part in eight different game modes, including 11 vs. 11, Tournament Mode with over 50 real-world competitions, a full in-depth Career Mode, and head-to-head online.

probebly a place holder..but if EA has an official info sheet released, regarding these console features...and the PlayStation or EA' Vita's pages are not updated, then we'll have a clear idea.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be another Madden situation but even if the Vita version isn't as fully featured I'll probably still pick it up as long as it's good.

Hm... Never tried manager mode (or played a FIFA game). Guess this'll be my first one as I've only played FM.

Going to be interesting.

Man i hope people hit those skill games for a couple hours before bringing their bum asses into virtual pro team up.

PES has that locked down for obvious reasons.
I've always found it a bit strange that PES only includes the J-League in Japan as far as I know, and not in other countries. I know it's not as well known as the Premier League etc, but still, it's one more licence in their battle with EA...

manchester united player faces licenses should be a priority and add player ID like winning eleven. Looks like there are plenty of good improvement.
