Mass Effect 3 to be a Wii U launch title; ME1+2 Interactive Story

EA has confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will be a launch title on Wii U. The game will feature new control schemes that utilize the GamePad, bonus DLC such as Extended Cut, and an interactive backstory covering the experience of the first two games. Players can make decisions during key points and bring that narrative into Mass Effect 3.

Take a look at the first shots from the Wii U game, captured from EA Summer Showcase 2012 live-stream.

the maps on the second screen will be really helpful in navigating the linear, visceral combat zones. rock on Wii U owners

Should have just put the whole damn trilogy on the system...
Kind of not possible since Microsoft has its hands on ME1.
It would be great for WiiU/PS3 owners if that weren't the case, though.

I wonder if it would be better or worse to do squad command stuff through the WiiU screen. Kinect's implementation seemed like it was alright.

Sounds great! Still haven't finished ME3 on 360, might trade it back and finish the fight on WiiU instead if the port is well done.

This is why I'm keeping my hopes up for streaming to the gamepad on this game. Seems like a really logical feature.

I can imagine it now. A Mass Effect Trilogy "Choose your own adventure" Game for the iPad, Summer 2013.

So instead of getting all the games on the system, Wii U gamers would still get a piece of it so it doesn't feel like they were left out. I wish they'd do this for the other late ports.

They did it for the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 they will do it for the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3.

Now they can just remove the choices they decided to ignore, clever.

I'll be interested to see how this performs technically, but I don't think people going into the series for the first time should be doing it with this.

They can finally get the lucrative market of people who wanted to just play Mass Effect 3, but didn't have PS3/360/PC AND want to buy a Wii U at launch.

Maybe the port will be cheap enough, but this just sounds weird.

So they can have it brutally murdered and the corpse pissed on.

Maybe the Wii U pad will display your quests, and whether or not you've completed them. That'd be a great new feature. >_>

Oh and let's see those improvements to the textures and also looking forward to videos of weapon holstering being back in.

You can't feel bad for me, I played 1 & 2 on my 360 before it died. I think I'm really gonna enjoy this one.

I don't doubt that since the game play is actually pretty good.

why give them hope and potential and watch it disappear as they play? that's cruel

True. I earned my bitching by spending probably closes to $200 on the franchise as a whole. Wii U players will only have to pay $60 to do the same.

Happy about the interactive story. I really do not have the will to play through ME1 and ME2 for a third, fourth, or fifth time to get the full experience from ME3.

Big question: Will it have Javik DLC included?

It's not like their experience will be that dramatically different, barring a cutscene romance or something.

I can see new players not being as attached to the characters when they haven't been exposed to them for two whole games. I mean, the characters are the best part of the series, but I doubt a new guy will fall in love with Garrus through an interactive comic.

I did but I wouldn't mind changing some of the choices though so it's no biggie to start over.

To bad none of the loyalty missions are in the comics, since a few of them matters in the next game, talking ME2-ME3 specifically, never played ME1, so don't know between ME1 -> ME2.

That'll make it sting less when the game says "fuck it" at the end and the teammates leave Shepard at the end anyway.

Yep I knew they'd include an interactive comic like that one they did for PSN.

I might buy a Wii-U, but I don't need this.

It really shouldn't have. Arkham City already took up like 10 minutes, a game that was already released for other platforms.

Oh I don't mean a big showing like that. But something from Reggie like "Mass Effect is coming to Wii U" with a small tease of the features and then move on rather than a brief showing of footage in a b-roll.

I say it should have been a bigger announcement, though, because - for better or worse - Mass Effect 3 is one of the biggest games this year.
