THQ cancels del Toro's/Volition's inSANE

Can we have a refresher on what this was?

This

Insane (stylized as inSANE) is a survival horror video game developed by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ, in collaboration with film director Guillermo del Toro.[1] It is being developed for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and will be released in 2013. It is the first installment of a planned trilogy of Insane video games.[2]
[edit]Development

Insane was first announced at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards on 11 December 2010 by del Toro and Volition, in the form of a thirty-second teaser trailer.[3] del Toro said of the game "With this new series of video games, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality. THQ and Volition, Inc. are equally excited to make this vision of a completely new game universe into a reality."[4]
Comic book artist Guy Davis is one of the key designers of the game.[5] He has previously worked with del Toro on designs for At the Mountains of Madness.[6]

As long as the other game with white text on black background of which we only know the title of isn't canned I'm cool with it.

Agent

Two of my most anticipated games (INsane and Devil's Third) cancelled or without a publisher (Devil's Third will probably end up canned too). This fucking generation...

So THQ's future line-up is

Darksiders 2
WWE 13
Metro
Saints Row 4
Warhammer 3 (RTS, maybe it's rumored to be on hold as they switch priorities.
Company of Heroes 2

Wargammer MMO-esque. Recycled to make an SP game. Might never come out.

And that's it for the next 18 months?

Sucks, I was kind of looking forward to an Arkham Horror/Lovecraftian game with Sanity aspects and what-not, but it was to be expected with all the THQ stuff going down. Oh well.

Del Toro as a director of a survival horror / horror game? Was excited when I heard about it but yes saw this coming (before the Valhalla announcement but that happened first.)

I heard they are relocating all teams to FPS anyways.

I kid I kid...I hope.

Not in the least bit surprising to anybody following THQ's business and finance.

In Eurogamer's last interview with Bilson, he strongly implied that it had been moved to PS4/Durango:

Insane is phenomenal. What we're doing with it is phenomenal. Working with Guillermo is a blast, some of the most fun I've ever had in my whole career. You'll start seeing more announcements about that title in the coming months.

So development is going well and it's still on course for release for a 2013 release?

Danny Bilson: It could be later. There are a lot of reasons you can probably guess why it might be later that are good reasons. Let me just tell you it's good reasons.

You couldn't possibly be saying it's been shifted to PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox?

Danny Bilson: I wouldn't know.

Of course you know.

Danny Bilson: I might know but if I knew, I couldn't talk about it.

But of course, Bilson is gone now. I assume major layoffs at Volition are imminent.

del Toro project canned, film at 11

Del Toro is very talented but he's so unfocused. He has no commitment or attention span. The project should have been far enough along to have been worth completing.

I wonder if Patrice Desilets is writing a big ole teary apology letter to Ubisoft. "Mon amis, about my old job.."

We all said this was gonna happen when they canned Itagaki's game. If you work for THQ, you should be looking around for a new job.
Anyone there not looking for other work is an idiot.
