While we are still in the middle of the Apple event, there's one thing that caught my eye and frankly it's something that should have been 5 years ago.

I present to you, Lightning.

Yep, you read it right. It's reversible.

A data cable that will let you put it in 100% of the time. Not like the USB or any other cable

So, yeah! Fuck Yeah Apple! Innovation!
:p

This might be the best thing from the event. :P

Oh and you can buy this adapter for like $20-30 or $1-5 china brand.

This shit right here. I never had a problem connecting the cable, I do have a problem with forced obsolescence.
agreed, the cable they have used for as long as I remember is great, I don't see the need to change it other than making people rebuy new cables.

I guess we're done with the iPhone 5 now, so yeah, this shit is the best thing that the iPhone 5 has to offer. lol

The only good thing I can say about this cable is that you don't need to have a certain side of it up to plug it in.

Yeah, that's all.

Now I have to throw out all my other iPod cables around my house and at work and replace them with 30 dollar new ones from the Apple Store.

Is reversible really a thing people were clamoring for? Really? Every iPod cable I have--both official and knockoff--has some logo or marking on the front. It ain't hard.

Also, the old 30-pin had a lot of pins used for things like audio and video out and audio recording. Are they just ditching all that secondary functionality?

The fact that this thing is reversible is amazing, if only my current phone had it so I wouldn't have to shine a light on my mini USB when I want to plug my phone in before bed.

Lol, if a new plug on the end of a wire is what counts for innovation these days at Apple then thats pretty sad.

smh.

Hold on a second. Isn't the reason cables are non-reversible is because they need to go in a certain way due to the socket type? I don't see how this is innovative. Any company could do this, but they would also have to change the standard for the socket as will, which is impractical to impossible (usb for example).

Edit: Oh, it uses an adapter? So that adapter doesn't go in any way then.
Edit2: Seems I'm beaten anyways, somebody came up with a way to do usb without an adapter. Nice!

lol...wow, So your delusion is that since I don't want to have different cables for every device I own, I want stagnating technology?

They're improving a cable. The cable comes with a new device. "If it ain't broke" should not apply to technology.

I know people are downplaying the reversable part but it quite honestly is one of those daily annoyances. My computer is down on the floor and every time I need to change a stick I need to go ly dow so I can put it correcly in (eventhough I am always 100% sure I am putting it right way in)

Is it really improving though? does it provide better speeds? I am just not seeing the improvment in this cable.

Why wouldn't you just mark the top of the plug?
