Oddworld Strangers Wrath HD update for PC now live on Steam!

Just booted up Steam and what do I see? A 3GB update for Strangers Wrath!

JAW Twitter:
For those anxiously waiting #StrangersWrathHDPC update is NOW live to all via Steam. Free to those that already have the original…

I am also receiving reports of flying pigs and sub-zero temperatures in Hell.

Performance would also be great, with settings/res/specs. I heard the original version had horrible performance issues despite being pretty ancient.

Crashes instantly when I try to run it. Anyone else having this problem ? Tried verifying the files and even reinstalling. No luck.

Did you try to verify the files? My install didn't update by itself, so verified and Steam said it needed to convert, then it started downloading the 3gig update.

Do you have an AMD card? I was trying last night with the latest drivers and it was crashing almost instantly. The only thing I found that said it was a fix to this was reverting to older drivers, which I really don't want to do. Same fucking issue with RAGE. I played it fine after a couple driver updates at launch, but the newest drivers don't work at all. Needless to say this will be the last time I purchase an ATI card for a long time. I've been using them since I started building pc's a decade ago.

*edit - I'll have to eat a bit of crow as my download of the HD patch finished and it booted right up. Still going green on next card :P

Runs butter smooth for me, 1080p/50-55fps with 4xAA.

By the way, what does "GPU sync" means in the option pannel ?

No, I'm using a Geforce card. You'll never see me buy an ATI card ;)

Does it detect game pads well? Thinking of having it there for big picture mode

Pad works but button prompts are a no go. Tutorial just says joyaxis and you have to pause the game and check options to see a labeled 360 controller. Of course changing any buttons causes that picture to disappear and be replaced with the menu that has joyaxis everywhere.

I was in on the beta and can confirm their AA is extremely intensive. I have a GTX 670 and 16x would cause the game to give me a black screen, so they knocked the max allowed down to 8x. I recommend downsampling instead as it looks great and is effective. I can run the game at 3200x1800 and maintain 60fps without a hitch. 8xMSAA drops me into the 40s at 1080p.

Any update on the PS Vita version?

Someone asked them this on Twitter.

@jawltd: @oldmario ask me that around 3pm GMT tomorrow :)

Thread is in dire need of screenshots...

How's the stability of the current release? Still a clusterfuck for AMD cards?

I won't be home to take any for several hours, else I would. Maybe if Stallion's able to get it working well he'll do the honors.

Anyone know if they fixed some of the xbox gamepad support for this game? Both of the 3d Oddworld games are both very janky with gamepads...they're not mapped right. Hoping this update may have improved support for it.

I think you can map it however you like. Don't hold me to that, though, I've never bothered trying.

5850 here with current drivers and I'm having no issues. The framerate isn't as buttery smooth as others have said, but I haven't really tweaked any settings yet. My only complaint at the moment is the camera. Sheesh. It's awful.

The camera sensitivity option needs to work.

But aside from that, the game is running nicely for me at 2560x1600!

To the guy above, you can remap basically every controller function from the launcher. It doesn't seem to require an XInput controller either.

So I was having performance issues. Turning on vsync in launcher dropped the fps to 30 most fo the time. Trying vysnc with triple buffering in control panel same thing. I fixed it, and I dunno why it fixed it though.

If you're using a Nvidia card, force triple buffering and Vsync Adaptive in the control panel. I have a lock 60fps now. *shrug* No clue how that fixed it.

Edit: Ignore all of that. I must have switched off AA by mistake on that test. The x4 AA is a massive performance hit for some reason.

60fps lock with config AA off. x4 AA control panel still 60fps. I wonder what the game is using.

3ghz
460gtx 1gb

5770, game runs fine aa off. 15fps with aa maxed. no graphical button prompts almost seems like an oversight seeing as they got them in for the pc version sans the hd update.
