If you smell burning, it's probably the generators acting up. Report it anyway.
..with cartoons of their own. Al-Watan, an Egyptian newspaper, is going to head-to-head with French weekly Charlie Hebdo that published cartoons of the Prophet Mohamed earlier this month. Al-Watan responded by publishing 13 cartoons depicting how the West sees the Muslim community in a post-9/11 world.

Americans see the bloodthirsty image because thats all the middle east seems to want to show us 9 times out of 10. The people in Libya who protested the violence and took a stand understand.

Im glad this group wants to respond with cartoons of their own its at least a step in the right direction.

I don't even get that top one (towers in glasses)... the bottom one is fine. Actually, it's not too far off from the reality.

These are some good cartoons, but could someone translate the top one for me?

Top one would probably work better with a mosque or something in the background. Hopefully this helps to get the concept of satire out there.

Yes, that's what the second cartoon denounces, all the Western media cares about is the violence, the Libyan anti violence protest didn't make the headlines.

It's not the middle east who is showing you bloodthirsty things, it's the Western media.

So who is putting up the $100,000, someone has to pay for these outrageous images?

What does that even mean?

Would be great if we could find an alternative to oil and just leave the region to burn itself

No, it's the image our media sells us. Did you notice how little to no mainstream news outlets reported the protest? They've been telling you every day for the past 11 years that all Muslims are evil; they can't suddenly say "well except these guys" because it goes against what they are selling.

This post illustrates one of the major problems with America.

I am against this. That Egyptian newspaper is figuratively on their enemies battlefield playing their game. How could they possibly win?
stop being reactive, be proactive.

What the hell are you talking about? Win? No one will 'win', they are cartoons. Or has Poe's Law got me again?

Those cartoons are completely different from the crass CH ones.I don't see those cartoons as being a reaction to the cartoons in particular but to the way the Western media pictures the Muslim world.

I'm sorry that it takes hundreds of people taking to the streets for you to understand that not everyone in the Middle East is a violent, western hating terrorist.

I'm impressed. This is how they should have responded in the first place. The First World Cartoon War?! I can live with that.

I actually think this is great. Sometimes images can put things into perspective much more than words. Why not show your side of things, and how you think people perceive you to bring attention to the other side and their own views?

Kudos to the folks behind this.

Agree 100% with both the cartoons in the OP and the right to mock anyone/anything in any way you want. A cartoon with jesus and Muhammad banging? Fine by me.

Well shit. I was going to try and get some things done today. So much for those plans. Now I have to burn some effigies and kill some embassy people. Let's get to work.

Ugh! And I'm going to miss football! This day just gets worse and worse already.

Highlights even more how beyond ignorant it was for violence and death to erupt when the same was done. And they can knock us all they want in cartoons, at least it is not a building filled with thousands of people. We all welcome this approach, maybe the terrible wars could have been avoided if the initial attack on the US came in this form.
