Resident Evil 6 to get new camera options and tweaks

Capcom is pleased to announce that, in response to player feedback, a free title update for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Resident Evil 6 will be made available in mid-December. This update includes the following additions and improvements:

  • Gamers will be able to adjust the camera to give a greater field of view as best suits their play style. Screenshots illustrating the new camera and co-op features can be found on Capcom’s press site. The camera screenshot pairs show the minimum and maximum range of the new camera setting. Please note that this feature is still in development and may change without further notice before the title update is released.
  • Subtitle options have been improved so that English language audio can be combined with subtitles in an alternative language.
  • As recently announced, Ada Wong’s campaign will be unlocked from the start and have an optional player-controlled co-op partner added. It was previously necessary to complete all three other campaigns in order to unlock Ada’s story.
  • ‘No Hope’ difficulty level will be added above the existing levels, for players who want an extreme challenge.

Camera seems ok. Chris still looks a little weird with how tall he is. Ada's partner is the BSAA mask guy with a pink tint.

All of these additions are great imo, but I think that unlocking Ada's campaign from the start is kind of dumb. It was kind of a reward and a motivation for finishing the three other campaigns.

Indeed. Don't get that decision.

Well I figured the narrow FOV was a performance issue. It turns out they were just incompetent.

Great, great, great.

Stopping my play now, focusing on Mercenaries for sake of Skills, wait for December to commence.

Thank you Capcom.

Mid December? If you have not unlocked Ada's campaign by then, you need a new game...lol..

This basically is for people who buy used or after price drop?

To late Capcom, to late. Damage is already done. The franchise needs a reboot. Tank controls need to go. This ain't the Mid-90's when controls didn't have analog sticks.

Seems like a good update. I am actually fine with the camera the way it is now but it couldn't hurt to have more options.

Unless they patch the whole game out and remove all the sudden deaths/QTE/Dumb chases/vehicles sequences I couldn't care less.

A step in the right direction, at least. At least they admit they had no idea what they were doing.

Already finished the game twice, but this will make the game even better.

Maybe after 7 more patches, a complete story re-write and starting over the level design from scratch, it might be nearly half as good as RE4 someday.

I'm still looking forward to the PC version. Have they ever commented on its release date?

Online game forums -- where people post opinions with no arguments. You guys are like saying the exact opposite without even bothering to explain why.

Ok, it's a very long list, but I can try to resume with this: the cover system changes the crosshair sensitiveness; the passage from walk to run has something wrong. All the comands are incredible caotic, far away to be intuitive. I think could be fixed with some work. Oh, the tank controls feeling, I have forgot, everytime I have sensation to control a truck, but I'm unable to specify the exact reason.

Honestly I thought the controls were solid. It felt responsive and I could do rolls, jumps and etc the moment I needed in reaction to enemy attacks.

This game is like a 7/10 (5 being mediocre). 6.5 at worst.

I liked Leon scenario, I enjoyed majority of chris' campaign (on chapter 4) but I dislike the first 2 chapters of Jake a lot.

The main thing this game seems to lack is a solid pacing, and little tidbits that make the resident evil game feel more immersive. I miss the days where you can press X or whatever at a desk and a little caption comes up commenting on the situation.

edit

Why do people talk about tank controls? RE6 has the best controls out of all the REs by a large margin. You can react to enemy attacks with a multitude of options. If a zombie is behind you, you can attack behind you immediately with back+melee.

The input lag wasn't an issue at all to me on 360. The main issues with the game to me were not gameplay related (aside from the terrible QTE's).

Pacing, execution of a single strong narrative, connecting scenes together and polish that's exactly the stuff I had issues with. I loved diving around, staying on the ground to shoot. Getting downed and seeing a boss character standing over and attacking me while I'm getting revived (and then standing up and instantly getting killed) or seeing characters open a door with enemies still walking around the room and attacking was really terrible.

I'm glad I didn't bought it yet.

But mid-december? Why so long? Oh Capcpom.

some of their patches have been breaking games recently. hopefully they're testing this out fully to make sure it doesn't break any games as well.

These same problems people had with the beta other than screen tearing were ignored. I know that release dates and PR dictate this shit but it would have been nice to get these improvements out for the launch of a product. In this busy release season is anyone other than the hardest of hardcore for this franchise going to be bothered to replay this game with the improvements. Reminds me of Crysis 2 DX11 patch. By the time it came out I couldn't be bothered to play it again other than loading up a few sections to gawk at the graphics and then I shut it off.

Great news. The best is that I can play Ada in Co-op. Will wait to replay a Pro or Veteran playthrough with my friend.

Can't wait.

Capcom has been very outspoken that their most desired thing for next-gen is for console manufactures to decrease the wait time publishers have to endure for patches and updates to go through.

To be fair, they have a point, everyone had to wait weeks, if not months for patches to fix certain games, HD Remx, SF3HD, etc, and by then it was too late, as the community dropped off super hard.
