This design patent, titled, Display screen or portion thereof with animated graphical user interface, gives Apple the exclusive rights to the page turn in an e-reader application.

Yes, thats right. Apple now owns the page turn. You know, as when you turn a page with your hand. An interface that has been around for hundreds of years in physical form. I swear Ive seen similar animation in Disney or Warner Brothers cartoons.

Do the implications of this only apply to reading e-books on a device or will, for example, the WiiU's controller be unable to use these animations? I imagine if it's the latter, certain experiences could be limited if apple keep patenting everything.

I think the patent is dumb. However, I am actually interested in other mobile devices that have realistic page turning animations. Do you have any links to these? I am asking because a lot of the apps I use currently such as instapaper don't have it. So I was wondering if there were actually apps that support realistic page before ibooks did.
