pixel art RIOT simulator by ex-Valve dev [indiegogo]

Update: Greenlit on STEAM!

Dear steam users, fans, backers, THANK YOU.

Yes, thank you. Without you, we would have never got to this point.
We still cannot believe it... STEAM! Wow.

We cannot estimate a release date yet, but we will definitely try to see if we can use the "Early Access" service on steam to speed things up.

Once again, thank you.

P.s.
Stay tuned for updates on http://riotgame.org

Thank you,
Leonard, Mattia and Ugur

Surprised there isn't a thread on this, looks awesome with the Sworcery-like pixel art. Playing on both sides of a riot sounds interesting.

PC, Mac, iOS, Android

Mainly hotseat multiplayer, with single player campaigns as well.

As the economical crisis advances, the discontent of an entire population cannot help but outburst in Riots, where the sounds of many voices get heard at once. The Director Leonard Menchiari has been experiencing this form of protest in person, and the game "Riot" was born as a way to express it and to tell the stories of these fights. What is it that triggers such a strife? What does a cop feel during the conflict? In "Riot", the player will experience both sides of a fight in which there is no such thing as "victory" or "defeat".

The funding for the game will enable the developers to travel, document and experience live riots going on in Italy, Greece, Egypt and possibly many other places around the world (next to developing the game, buying software and hardware for development and testing).

Only comments and reports from the people joining the conflicts will be taken into consideration, attempting to depict both sides of the fight without bias, only objectivity and facts.
Leonard Mechiari, previously an Editor/Cinematographer at Valve, is joined by game designer Mattia Traverso, programmer Ugur Ister, composer Simon Michel, sound designer Eric Wegener, and sound designer Rolando Nadal on his team.

In addition to the rent and living expenses of the people involved, the costs for the research phase and the eventual contribution of other composers, software licenses are required to release the game on PC, Mac, iOS, Android and OUYA.

Living in a country drowning in debt and corruption, it is practically impossible for Team “Riot” to find way to fund the project in Italy and we are therefore asking for your help. We need you to spread the voice on an important issue through the medium of videogames.

Stop listening to the lies of the media, shut down the television and get yourself in the line, to fight for your freedom of speech.

pixel art Banksy!

I want to beat down rebel youths with stupid rasta hair, hemp logos on their hoodies, rings and chains everywhere - GIVE ME THAT CHANCE!

Game looks awesome. Ill be keeping an eye out on this. Love the volume of proper pixel art based games coming out these days.

Looks great, instantly caught my interest. Art style is simple, but animated and executed so beautifully, matched with the fact that the concept is simple, heavy but relatable, but also completely unique for a game yet interesting.

This is so awesome.

I wonder how much GDDR5 ram I will need to run this, though o_O

I would give anything to see more grounded, "non-AAA" approach games from EVERY single studio and game developer. I would love to see what happens to the evolution of gameplay if every big director and designer decided to make the 2d/pixelart/low-fi field once again their battleground. Damn, the games we would get that way...

Oh my, incredible concept and lovely visuals.

Yes. I really wish we could see a resurgence of 2D or low-poly 3D games to showcase original and creative concepts that would not be possible or would never be greenlit, had they been conceived as a big-budget "AAA" console game.

When i was 17 i was tear-gassed by the cops

A friend of mine was in a riot in the middle east where they used onions in front of their face to shield himself before tear gas.

I was about to make a thread for Indie games like this btw, might still include this game though, as Indie games need more exposure.

why do people want nintendo graphics?? it's so strange to see people clamoring for hyper realism and then people who want bleep bloop nintendo stuff

Looks great, the animated gif there is especially awesome. As Jackpot said though, I'm not too sure about the developers asking for money to pay for flying them around the world to "experience live riots", esepcially when apparently they also need us to pay their rent and living expenses too. Having said that, this does look like an interesting art style. Hopefully they make a game out of it.

Different people, different tastes, different types of games that require different aesthetics.

Also, are you serious with the "bleep bloop nintendo stuff"? Not only would this look not have been possible on Super Nintendo hardware (the sheer amount of sprites, the resolution, etc.), it's ridiculous that one would consider such graphics inferior to "realistic" visuals.

I think this is the reason it isn't on Kickstarter - they have a rule against "fund my life" projects. There's got to be a ton of video footage out there to work with. The game looks great, but I'm not paying for their vacation.

Wat...

please explain...

It's an artstyle like any other. It's relatively cheap to produce, so it's perfect for indie games. It's minimalistic and yet, you can get an incredible amount of information across even with these perceptively crude graphics.

Indeed. This strikes me as a very inefficient way of researching a game of this kind.

Stages areound the world says in the trailer. Hoping we get some Spain ones lol

Is there a reason why this isn't on kickstarter?

I'd prefer to pay through amazon payments

Its a pain in the ass for people who dont live in USA or UK.
If he lives in one of those places, then he fucked up, even if he can get the funds, becuase the studio Im working have studied a lot indiegogo and kickstater, and indiegogo is HORRIBLE for videogames (the percentage of people that have accomplished the funds there is really low). Now, if you are making a table game, well indiegogo is awesome.

Ok I didnt read that. WTF.
I really dont understand, hey we are going around the world seeking riots. At least they have to know that this riots occur most of the times when protests go bad, and thats not really good.

Just get some media around the internet and read opinions of all sides, you dont have to experience a riot to know its horrible, and that people suffer.
And if they are going to third world countries to "experience" really horrible riots, they can get even killed, those are not the same as going to an european country and be in a protest that goes wrong (thats what most of the video shows), and most of the time they dont occur, becuase as ive said, thats the worst way to end a protest.

Was going to fund until I read that we're paying for them to travel. Donating to people like this just screams "mismanagement" and "doomed project".
