Richard Garriott, Ultima Creator returns with a Kickstarter project [Complete, $2M]

Didn't people think it would be some kind of social web game? This totally doesn't look like one.

Looking alright enough. Not backing obviously. But I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Would be nice if someone did an Ultima IV successor.

Edit: ok so I did back it, to be one of those 5000. I'll cancel it if by the end of the month they haven't made me confident.

And Torment, even though I said similar of that, lol. God I hate you Kickstarter, taking advantage of how weak I am.

He's really saying all the right stuff with this. He talks about how RPG's making you make a choice at the very beginning about class, race etc is annoying. You can play the game offline, but if you are connected friends and similar people like you will populate your world. So it's a more personal MMO.

Ok, if this doesn't raise 50 000 by the time I return from the shop it's fail

Honestly I find this pretty gross. If theres one dude who doesn't need to use Kickstarter to fund a game's development its this guy.

Also looks terrible but not really my cup of tea.

It's gotten 20K within what, 10 minutes of launch? Decent start, but I was never a big Ultima fan, so I'll probably sit this one out.

I'm in... but for now, for a low tier. Not entirely convinced by what I read, but haven't been able to watch the video yet.

That said, 'player housing' is something that always sets my teeth on edge, and the (text) pitch seems to focus on it more than it deserves...

I love the description for the Guilt Pledge. Unfortunately is seams the delivery date for your clear conscience is the same as the release date.

Hmm he is saying all the right stuff, but I don#t like the look of it at all. This super simplsitic 3D does not work for me in a third person view, if it was top down maybe. "D might have been the better choice.

Also don't really have the nostalgia for Ultima to get that excited about it. I only bought Ultima iX. I specifically only say bought because I never got that piece of shit to properly run and therefor I never played it for more than the first 2 hours.

Just because you have money doesn't mean you should throw it at fun projects like this. This is a business.

It's not like he needs 20 million to make this. He should have used his own money. A couple of million to a billionaire is like a couple hundred bucks to most of us.

If you don't like that he has earned a lot of money, then don't back this. Tough life, I know.

Why does a billionaire need a kickstarter.
He's not been doing that hot money-wise lately, if what I remember reading some while ago is true. Besides, a Kickstarter can also be used to gauge general interest.

If it gets funded, it means there's a 'critical mass' out there in the general public and it's worth putting more money into it. It's one of those consumer metrics things.

Ultima VI and VII were awesome, and I'd love to see a new game, but this looks meh... :/

VI was the bomb, underappreciated. Once I understood Gargish that story! :O

Yeah, ask others to throw money at it at their own risk.

I'm definitely not going to give a man, who bought himself a trip to space, money to develop a videogame.

There was no way I was not going to back this, but I'm only in for the First Responder tier (for now). I'm impatiently awaiting future updates.

They need to address if there will be any IAP/DLC/fees for features whatsoever.

That stuff about having rent-free house tiers if you pledge above a given level worries me.

Granted it could be talking in game currency alone but it indicates there may be more things like that.

Plus even in that case we don't know the gameplay consequences it delivers. Does it make such houses an unworthy chore for the rest? Perhaps not enough of a challenge for those who pledge on such a level? It's an unknown (de?)motivator right now.

I just backed this, and I don't know why. Probably because the 25 dollar reward level was limited... wow, that was stupid.

I'm still sceptical about the pitch, but I do have to admit that the livestreamed interview right now is really rather enjoyable.
