It's got a demo you can download right now to try it out.

Looks awesome ( I have yet to try out the demo, but I already backed)

We love apocalyptic themes (not in real life, of course!), and have been thinking about the best way to integrate themes of desperation, chaos, and hope into one game. This isn’t just about simple storytelling or displaying a crisis in front of you; it’s our invitation to you to enter into and interact with this world.

C-Wars is a roguelike game. Its gameplay allows you to explore this cyberpunk apocalypse in your own way.

Roguelike is retro but not old fashioned, especially when embedded with an original combat system.

In addition to the numerous special/random encounters commonly seen in a regular roguelike game, we’ve spent a large amount of time creating this unique combat system, which follows an RTS spirit with an ARPG essence. Our goal is to amplify units collaboration and micromanagement.

It's a magnificent combination of retro-style visuals and innovative gameplay.

Looks really cool but only giving the Steam key at $40 is lame. Every other Kickstarter I've backed has offered the Steam key with the base digital copy.

edit: Looks like I'm wrong about the Steam key.

Thanks for the support!

It's in FAQ section thought. If we get greenlit, you will have BOTH drm-free copy AND steam key for pledging Retro Game or Higher.

Best,

Loup

Thanks, Zarx.

O I didn't even notice that, that's weird, they are giving out DRM free version at way lower level too.

But I got in on 60$ anyways

I like the animations, not really the kind of game I'd play on my PC though, and I doubt my phone would run it.

Voted for this on Steam Greenlight. Looks great. I think the 40 dollars isn't so bad as long as they make a shit ton of DLC for it.

The demo actually has some problems (uncaught exceptions in java lol) but I guess it's early alpha and stuff.

The game definitely looks promising, however I can't seem to be able to control it well with laptop trackpad =/

Can't blame 'em. 3D is difficult and expensive. And the roguelike concept involves providing a lot of gameplay with few assets. If you want to make an RPG, it's a responsible choice over trying to best Ultima VII on a tiny budget.

There's a million adventure games and text-based projects too, they just don't get as much attention as the low budget stuff that is more traditionally "gamey" like roguelikes or platformers or whatever.

The AAA drinking game: take a drink every time you see the words "shooter" or "RPG-style progression". I think you'll drop dead sooner playing the big budget version.

I am just saying that because indies are capable of "nimble" production that they hop on bandwagons at an accelerated rate. Expect to see a sideways eight amount of "roguelike influenced" with more randomly generated, badly designed levels that you can shake an RNG stick at this year than ever before in history.

I just hope that the roguelike fad passes quick and they can move onto a more interesting genre. Anything is more interesting.

I do feel like "rougelike" gets thrown around way too much. But this does look interesting.

Also looks like pretty good pixel art.

To be honest, I'm not even sure what a "roguelike" is. I played Rogue way back in the day and it was fun as hell, but not sure what that means in the context of today's games. Unless I'm missing something with the concept of this game, I don't see what it has in common with old school Rogue.

Wow, this is the most fun Kickstarter video I've seen yet. I might back the project just for that. And the game looks cool. Will have to try the demo soon.

What program is used to create sprites for games like this? I've noticed a lot of the sprite-based indie games look a bit similar.

I think it's just photoshop (or photoshop like), those low res sprites will all look alike, there's a video of them making one from scratch on the kick start page

These days it's pretty much anything with randomised levels and some form of permadeath, tho I have seen some using it for games without permadeath recently leaving just randomisation which is a pretty stupid use of the term IMO.

Okay. That makes sense. Simply having random levels doesn't make the game anything like Rogue. At least that helps me understand the term.

Just saw this and it looks pretty good. They are using an engine called ONI to make the sprites, not sure if it's licensed or their own, but I like it so far. The guys on the video seem pretty passionate about their game so I'll support it.

Yeah you get a bandwagon when devs are chasing success but you get more of a type of game that people (including the dev) want to play. That's how genre grow/expand.

It's (2^16) - 1, the maximum unsigned integer you can represent with 16 bits. Programmer humor.

I understand that they dream to make it for the 3ds(it's the only way i explain the joke and the black background), but why 200k for the vita version?
This game is entirely possible on playstation mobile, with 80€ you get the license and you can easily publish the game for vita and psm compatible smartphones and tablets without even the need to kickstart.

Really puzzles me why iOS stretch is higher than 3ds/wii.... dev on iOS should be the cheapest.

However since they use JRE i am not sure how easy it is a port to iOS, 3ds/WiiU supports JRE for dev ?

Dat PSV stretch goal...This really does seem like a perfect PSV game.

It does (was good to watch the Pitch vid for Vita!). Even moreso than 3DS to me, actually... Though I'd easily be up for the WiiU version, too!

I guess they'd rather go for a full PSN Release, like Nun Attack or Sunflower, rather than PSM?

Personally, I'd prefer a game of this style to be Network rather than Mobile too... and they can probably sell it for a more appropriate price through Network, rather than being called too expensive for selling over $1.50 or such, like they would be on PSM.

I asked about this and got this in response

So you don't have to pledge at $40 to get a Steam key.

I would argue that it is a misuse of the term to be sure.

Despite currently being on track to go over $90k, I'm still worried it won't reach the 3DS goal. I hope it doesn't cost $5 more than the PC version like Shovel Knight.

That's an interesting video, I like how they went out their ways to speak in 4 languages to appeal to potential backers.
