History repeats, as Android does to iPad what it did to iPhone

Android now leads the tablet market, with a share of 56.5 percent, while the iPad's share falls below 40 percent. Windows tablets are still struggling, with a share below 4 percent and with struggling shipment figures, sell-through is always questionable.

Apart from the leadership change, the most important takeaway from the chart is that Android tablets did not see a sequential decline in Q1. I had earlier stated that seasonality in tablet demand (especially for Android tablets) would reduce as emerging-market demand grows.

as expected.

I am confused this is just a iOS vs Android software graph? Android is used by a lot of different companies is not?

In other words am I wrong in thinking that Apple still sells more tablets and phones than any other companies, but when you count all android companies... they have a higher share?

I'm pretty sure you're correct. In a way, it's kind of sad it took so long. Apple is one company going across a bunch of others. Really speaks toward the quality of apples mobile devices.

Umm no shit? That's what will happen when only one OS is dominated by one device. It's still valid to compare iOS to overall Android sales.

Thats like only comparing mac sales to sony vaios instead of PCs altogether.

How? Ipad is selling more now than when it launched, it just means that android is selling more.

How is it a huge loss for Apple if sales and profits are up?

That being said, android is actually in a poor position compared to Apple. Very few android hardware manufacturers are making any money. That's why they are increasing their software creation.

HTC, Sony aren't making a killing like Samsung is. And Samsung knows the money isn't in hardware sales which is why it's trying to cannibalize stock Android and Google with its own apps. It wants to be Apple. And Google knows this, which is why it didn't allow Samsung to make the recent Nexus device and why it's increasing it's role in Motorola phone development.

It's also why Samsung is dying to use Tizen as well. It's waiting for the day Samsung is more synonymous with smartphones than Android. Already it's phones are a mishmash of Android software and it's own touchwiz and Samsung software.

These graphs are always hilarious. As someone said earlier, surprised it took this long for about 10 other companies combine to catch up to Apple.

It was expected at some point. Apple can't maintain the same level of marketshare in the face of a large offering of Android tablets. However what Apple cares about is profit and they will continue to be very successful at making it.

It's interesting that data shows iOS grabbing a very large portion of mobile web usage despite not having the largest markethare. Either users of Android devices do not use them nearly as much as iOS users use their devices or Android sale figures are a little iffy.

But apple is doomed! Their high prices are catching up to them! (even though they are selling more tablets than ever)

There are people who think Transformers movies are good.

Just because quality is subjective doesn't mean you can't be wrong.

Someone is allowed to think Transformers movies are good, and they aren't wrong. It's a fucking movie. Just like someone can think that IOS is better than Android and vice versa. There is no right answer except to close minded guys like you and MrHicks up there.

The late 80s/early 90s is repeating, except replace desktop with mobile and Microsoft with Google. But the fundamental reasons are all the same. More open market versus 1 company, and the lack of corporate independence from a former genius CEO.

listen, apple owns. no one is arguing apple isn't killing it with their tablet hardware (with hot apps, facebook time, etc.). but really, why aren't more people looking at flagship droid products? PROTIP: they are. and u mad. you know they say that an apple a day keeps the doctors away, and that these droids are not the droids your looking for.. but hold up a sec.. it seems like the tablets have turned??

Estimates huh?

Remember when IDC estimated Samsung would sell 2.3 million tablets in a quarter

And then it turned out they had actually sold 37,000?

Yeah.

I didn't think people were loyal to these operating systems like consoles.

The same idea, but magnified to 10x. I hear people talking about this stuff on social networks and in real-life on a semi-frequent basis, and I don't even have a lot of super tech-savvy friends or acquaintances. People like to debate each other.

Good for you. My point stands though, just because its subjective or an opinion doesn't mean it can't be wrong.

Using a movie to make your argument doesn't back up your claim unless you have an objective measurement. If you can tell me why, objectively the transformers is a bad movie, than you may have a point (ill save you the work, the answer is you can't).

Also transformers is a terrible franchise, but that's just like my opinion man.

It's wrong to you, which is, again, your subjective opinion. There is no way for you to prove that someone who likes Transformers, or likes iOS is wrong.

I could make a nice snarky response to point out why. But I have a feeling I'm just talking to a wall here anyway.

You're taking a joke too seriously, but I'll start with the most obvious of reasons.

And I'm feeling like I'm talking to the type of dude that hangs out at a Gamestop arguing with the employees about who won E3.

As you have an argument about opinions in an Apple/Android thread.

This is a software graph. Obviously they're are multiple companies that make tablets that run android just as they're multiple companies that make computers that run windows.

Only Apple reaped almost 70% of mobile phone profits last year. Marketshare is not everything which is why Apple ditched the notion of trying to beat Microsoft at that game. They don't need to have the largest marketshare to have the largest portion of profits.

No, I'm taking your post at face value. If you want to make a joke, you have to work on that because that didn't come across at all. What has come across is that you can't substantiate an argument though...

Numbers like this are so meaningless. Didn't apple sell 19 million last quarter? They don't give a shit about market share when they're the only ones pushing anywhere remotely near the vicinity of those numbers.

It's wrong to you, which is, again, your subjective opinion. There is no way for you to prove that someone who likes Transformers, or likes iOS is wrong.

its my opinion that isaac newton was the dumbest motherfucker that ever walked the earth
don't tell me im wrong bro opinions and shit

I would care more about android tablets if they could get something that compares to GarageBand. I use my ipad all the time for musical stuff.
