The Zombies keep on coming as Deep Silver/Koch’s ‘Dead Island: Riptide’ takes a second week at No1 (-32%).

Warner’s ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’ (-40%) remains at No2 and Square Enix climb 2 places to No3 thanks to ‘Tomb Raider’ (-3%). As the football season draws to a close EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ remains a perennial favourite, climbing 3 places to No4 (+13%) and Capcom drop 2 places to No5 with the second week of ‘Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen’ (-41%).

Activision are also on the climb this week as ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ rises 5 places to No6 (+34%) and 2K/Take 2’s ‘Bioshock Infinite’ drops 1 place to No7 (-17%). Nintendo’s 3DS ‘Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins’ remains at No8 (+7%) and Nintendo are also at No9 with 3DS ‘Luigi’s Mansion 2’ (-5%).

Namco Bandai/Paramount’s ‘Star Trek’ drops from a debut position of No4 last week to No10 (-52%) and the lone new entry this week is Sony’s PS Vita ‘Soul Sacrifice’ debuting at No26.

I'm surprised at Lego City Undercover for the 3DS is doing so well. I thought the reviews weren't great for the 3DS version.

I'm guessing the Too Many Games promotion is having an effect.

Well done SS.

Is this the first game that the digital price was the exact same as RRP?

I think so, usually the digital price is lower. But it also released at a slightly lower than normal price of £30 (which personally, is what I feel should be the high end for portable game pricing.)

04 (06) 3DS LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER: THE CHASE BEGINS (NINTENDO)
05 (09) 3DS LUIGI'S MANSION 2 (NINTENDO)

Nice.
Luigi's Mansion is keeping selling in Europe, still n.1 in France.

Soul Sacrifice didn't set the chart on fire, probably disappearing next week.

Lower? In the UK their usually £10 more. Ass Creed and NFS prices were a joke at launch.

It had been out for a day. I expect it'll probably hold around the same position next week.

Opening at 18 is abysmal. On the other hand I don't know if I should consider it impressive since it's a Vita game.

For Vita games? I've always seen them launching at £35-ish for £40 RRP, although I'll admit I didn't really pay attention to either of those games (my Vita was bundled with AC.) Retail is still always lower though.
Except for Sly Cooper for some reason.

Oh you! Not that old horse chestnut.

I don't know what the expectations were for it, but it's still not a great chart placing for a "big" Vita game. What we looking? A couple thousand units at most?

Last week lol. Sonic Racing.

I didn't really expect it to do any better than this. It'll have some legs (probably mostly digitally,) but it's definitely a game made to appeal more to the Japanese audience.

I also meant my comment about it coming out on Friday more because it was originally scheduled for the Wednesday, then silently pushed back a couple of days.

Yeah, it's hard to know what to think about Soul Sacrifice.
I mean I wouldn't say MH did well on 3DS in retail either, but the 3DS was/is held up by other big titles (Luigi & Lego, lesser extent FE), while the Vita is not :-/.
Last week, Germany (Yeah, I know, not a big deal, it's not a so important EU country) >
I don't know if I agree with that.

No indeed.
Time for another "waiting for".
Was there a perception that the chart performance of Soul Sacrifice in the UK was going to be worth waiting for? Was there some sort of turnaround expected at this point?

I feel like you're digging deep into your box of Vita Strawmen and coming up empty.

Was anyone even waiting for SS to set the charts alight in the west? Not even the greatest and most popular hunting game (MonHun) does well in the west, what chance did SS even have. It's nice for the owners (which you clearly are not) but it is in no way a system seller in the west. I'm not sure anyone would be stupid enough to label it as such.

You'd be amazed what some people would label system seller when there's little else on the platform. I've seen people saying Pikmin 3 will be a system seller for the Wii U even...

No. But GAF hype suggests its "the" Vita game to get. I suppose that could be construed as a system seller.

It will do fine in the end.

Ragnarok Odyssey with <100k sales in Japan sold 250k WW (including digital) and that wasn't even released in Europe in retail.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Is it just me or there seems to be a sort of 3DS momentum in UK? Luigi can't be stopped, Lego did like last week (actuallu, +7%, but let's say it's steady since the increase is pretty low after all) and Fire Emblem is still well in top 20.

Funny fact n°1: NSMB2 stayed in top 10 for 5 weeks consecutively; for Luigi, this is the 6th consecutive week in top 10
Funny fact n°2: MH3U for 3DS reappeared at 37th in Value Individual top 40, and in the Full Price All SKUs Chart the game (3DS+Wii U)charted 31st, higher than last week (34th) which was higher than the week before (out of this specific top 40)

not trying to be debbie downer, UK retail has been shrinking significantly last 2 years so its hard to know stuff without numbers.

That's just as ridiculous. Outside of the most blatant fanboys and corporate cheerleaders, very few would call Pikmin 3 or SS a system seller for their respective systems. The first is a niche franchise and the latter is a new IP.

System sellers include games like GT, Mario, Halo, Zelda, Pokemon and Uncharted. Games that have sold 5m+ without breaking a sweat and have a large following among dedicated gamers and the more casual players. Games which only have a modest following among hardcore gamers are not system sellers, SS has had zero advertising, most people would look at you funny if you mentioned it in passing conversation thinking it was some kind of pagan/satanist ritual.

I don't think the GAF hype was based on its western sales prospects though.

Difficult to say without actual numbers, but the charts definitely look healthier for the 3DS this last few weeks. In number and variety.

Well, yeah, I've heard Soul Sacrifice didn't receive a decent amount of ads, even. Actually, one of the few Vita ads I saw on TV featured Sly 4 (ok), FIFA 13 (ok) and...Ben 10 Galactic Racing. Wwwwwwwhat.

I haven't seen a single Soul Sacrifice ad here. I haven't even seen a Vita ad for a while to be honest. I presume (hope) Sony's waiting for E3 to officially drop the price and then advertise it again.

People keep forgetting that Germany is likely to overcome UK if the latter will decrease as it did last year.

It won't. With PS4 and Durango likely coming this year the UK will sprint ahead of the other nations again. Britain is a nation of consumers.

I haven't seen a single Soul Sacrifice ad here. I haven't even seen a Vita ad for a while to be honest. I presume (hope) Sony's waiting for E3 to officially drop the price and then advertise it again.

I'm not even sure that SCE UK still realises Vita exists tbh. It's a great little system, but I can understand why the wider market rejected it.

The "industry size" comparisons between countries seem to be often made in revenue in USD (which is fine).

But I'd be curious what the unit comparisons are between the UK, Germany and France. Both hardware and software.

We expecting Donkey Kong to do well on the 3DS?

It'll probably sell well in the long-term. No idea how big a push Nintendo are going to have for it at launch, but it's first-party Nintendo, and a 2D platformer with a super-familiar name, so I imagine it'll do 'aight.

Because PS4 and Durango won't be released this year in Germany?

Consoles are a bigger market in the UK generally, and Duragno specifically will sell around double in the UK over Germany while PS4 sales (in terms of unit sales) will probably be around equal. That's what happened with PS3 and 360 at least. A repeat performance would give the UK market a much bigger boost than the rest of Europe because we buy Xboxen as well as PlayStations.

The "industry size" comparisons between countries seem to be often made in revenue in USD (which is fine).

But I'd be curious what the unit comparisons are between the UK, Germany and France. Both hardware and software.

A straight USD comparison isn't really ideal because Sterling is weak from copious amounts of quantitative easing while EUR has strengthened against USD because the Bundesbank has reined in all of the QE programmes at the ECB. Also, the UK had much, much further to fall in USD terms coming down from $2.05 to $1.55 would show up as a 25% fall even if in Sterling the consumer spend was identical. Comparing in USD is far from ideal.

If you want a true spending comparison then it needs to be done on a purchasing power parity basis in which the UK would be further ahead. Burgernomics ftw...
