Does anyone remember this game? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/358753914/spintires-the-ultimate-off-road-challenge

A beta/demo circled around the net a year ago or so, and it was awesome -- but that was it. I hadn't heard anything new from the developers until I saw this Kickstarter.

Stuck for a challenge? Try Spintires, the off-road driving experience that will test your patience and skill.

What is Spintires?

Produced by Oovee™ Game Studios, Spintires is an Intel(R) award winning off-road driving experience designed to challenge the player's skill and endurance.

Take responsibility of operating large off-road trucks and venture across the all-terrain landscapes with only a map and compass to guide you.

Featuring a unique terrain deformation system and interactive environment, Spintires is never the same - regardless of how many times you play it.

Gameplay Concept

The wild off-road adventure begins in Russia, circa 1980-90. You are supplied with a soviet truck and a set of primitive tools for navigation. The task is to collect and deliver logs from deep within the wilderness, ready for shipment abroad.

First, you must load the truck with the logs using the supplied claw crane, then using a map and compass you need navigate to your objectives with the logs secure to complete the objective successfully.

Plot a course and navigate using landmarks whilst trying not to loose your precious cargo, becoming stuck in the mud or depleting all of your fuel reserves. Plans accordingly so that you can pass a fuelling out-post and stop by when required.

Watch out for hidden crates around the forest. Since these crates are radioactive, you can use your Geiger-counter to discover them more easily. Each crate holds an unlockable truck accessories, not necessarily available in the workshop!

If you complete the objective successfully, you will be rewarded with ‘skill points’.

‘Skill points’ are rewarded for the following factors:

Successful delivery of Cargoes (more is better)
Cargo Damage (less is better)
Fuel Usage (less is better)

I like the idea (and liked the demo) but I think they may struggle with funds a bit as they've set the initial "get the game" goal to £40 ($60).

Yeah, the goals are a bit odd.

Pay £15 for the DLC Pack but no game?
Pay £40 and get the game and other rewards.

Is the game available elsewhere? What use is the DLC pack without the game?

Looks very interesting though. I've already sent it to my friend who adores this kind of machinery. Seriously, he has a disturbing fondness for big off-road trucks so he is right in their sights.

I'm tempted too if i'm honest :)

Looks a bit like a high fidelity, sim-oriented successor to Tricky Truck. Not interested enough to back it myself, but I really hope they make their goal.

Looks cool enough as tech & visuals but will they build a fun game around it or just a sandbox playground for genre buffs?

lol. Yeah, that's weird. Perhaps it's a DLC package for the beta you can currently play, or just a small standalone edition with fewer vehicles/tracks. But they really should explain that.

Was just about to create a thread on it but found this instead. My god that tech demo is amazing, this game has so much potential and it plays great. Just pledged £100 and I beg anyone with a spare bit of cash to pledge as well because this game need to happen, I mean really need to happen.

My first Kickstarter pledge ever.

the terrain deformation looks swell

The only thing that impressed me. That video was awful ranging from the pointless sweeping landscape shots to the laughably inappropriate music. I didn't understand what the gameplay should be until I read the description further down.

Just messed around with their 2011 demo, while uglier and lacking in functionality you have access to a lot of good stuff. Regular trucks and even a Stryker! You can also install a bunch of trailers and get to do package runs.

I really hope they implement a MBT or any tracked vehicle to be honest.

The tech demo was awesome. Getting stuck in mud and maneuvering your vehicle to get out was oddly satisfying but god damn was it hard.

Weird timing since I randomly stumbled upon this a few days back and found it very enjoyable.

Love the off road physics and effects, the day open world games can offer this...

Will get it for sure.

looks like real fun. I can get behind an evening of sipping on an old fashioned and cursing at the PC playing this. (a lot like trials evolution)

Imagine this game with Dirt 3's cockpit view. Ripping through a muddy, backcountry road in a thunderstorm at night with the diesel engine screaming. Barely able to see 5 feet ahead with the rain smacking the windshield. No HUD. Gauges lit up. Far Cry 2 style map.

Hoping they nail the weighty feeling. I want to feel and hear these things really struggling when climbing even the slightest incline.

This game needs more attention.

Oh they will definitely nail the weighty feel, the cars / trucks feel like bricks already. However if you want to see cockpits with all the bells and whistle, they need to reach 80k :/

This looks similar to Off-Road Drive which I had a lot of fun with. Locking\Unlocking the differentials, switching between 2 & 4 wheel drive, adjusting the tire pressure, using a wench to climb steep hill's, each course was like a puzzle of figuring out which techniques to use and where. It's such a small niche I'm kind of amazed to see another game in the genre.

The tech seems pretty unprecedented and they have a well optimized tech demo which is more than 90% of gaming kickstarters. Wish this was doing better.

If only it would gain more traction. :(

Just realised if you could pledge on two different rewards you could get the game, DLC and credits for £35 by backing reward #2 + reward #A, rather than £40 for reward #3.

I don't like these tiers.

Is it just me or did this just get a huge surge in backers? So glad people are seeing the potential.

Glad it had a spike. I pledged after reading about it on RPS and I'm checking everyday if it gets to the goal. Let's do this!

Wow, pretty crazy that they're actively improving the already awesome tech demo during the kickstarter. They should be licensing the tech out ala Havok and make millions.

EDIT: Oh shit son, the tech demo even (mostly) works on my netbook.

To those with the tech demo, does this have controller support? Driving games are pretty much useless to me without analog trigger acceleration.

Yea, the 360 controller worked for me, a lot of fun.

So glad it got funded.

Hope it reaches the 80k mark though :P

Stretch goal #1 reached, co-op plus more truck types.

No way this will hit the £80,000 tier for cockpit view.

off road + physics with a cockpit view would be so awesome

they have Paypal pledges on the official website so maybe they might add the total on top of the Kickstarter amount?
