Heavy Gear Assault Kickstarter (MekTek Studios)

Yet another "interesting IP from the past" KS campaign. Heavy Gear this time. Done by MekTek Studios and StompyBot. MekTek used to be a fan community that produced some kick ass content for Mechwarrior 4 back in the day. Better-than-official models, tweaks, and new content. It was fantastic. They were also the group granted permission to assist with redistributing the MW4 free release from the other year. This game looks like it'll be free to play as well, from the looks of things.

The Campaign said:
The world of Heavy Gear Assault is unforgiving – but so is your lust for glory. A pilot on the distant planet Terra Nova, you play the high-stakes game of competitive Gear Dueling. You earn fame and fortune by making a name for yourself on the arena floor. You stand out from the crowd by customizing the look and style of your Gear. You manage corporate sponsors, hire a support staff and fine-tune your Gear’s performance in the Gear Bay. You rise to the top, claim your position – and with every cannon shell left in your magazines, you refuse to let go.

Heavy Gear is a pretty awesome property, and I think these guys could do some neat stuff with it, but damn are they asking a lot for this campaign, all things considered. The extremely lacklustre first day doesn't help matters any either.

I loved Heavy Gear...but I want to play single player. No interest in F2P games. Even if I wanted one, kickstarting it seems kind of pointless.

They're asking a lot, and frankly I don't know if I'm really interested in another arena mech game. The single player stuff was what really got me going about the Gear games, and if there's not a single player story-based campaign, I'm afraid I'm not putting my dime in on it.

Well essentially if it gets funded, they are going to have a single player campaign. They will make it longer with episodes as stretch goals.

Latest update announced that Singleplayer will be in the 800'000 range.

Single player needed to be the focus of their pitch, no an afterthought. Mechwarrior and Hawken have handily beaten them to the MP arena deathmatch game.

Cancel the KS as it's doom to fail at this point (any effort from now on is a waste). Rethink it and hopefully they'll re-focus on single player.

The creative director has an impressive resume.

Seems like they are doing a singleplayer, at least episode 1 at their funding goal.

I went ahead and backed it, I actually work on the tabletop side of their art stuff. Seems like it could be cool, not to mention oculus rift support.

I concur. Single player with a multiplayer side. If they presented it as the Star Citizen of mech games, it could make the big bucks.

Yeah, I'll agree with all of that. This should be rebooted with a much more realistic goal and an SP focus.

I have faith in the team, but they bungled this pitch pretty bad. I hope they don't let this run to conclusion with a bunch of wasted time and effort.

Heavy Gear 2 single player was pretty neat back in the day. Heavy Gear series never had an outstanding multiplayer. I have no idea what they're doing with this one. Good luck to them!
