Bastion dev's Transistor announced for PS4 + bunch of other indies

Sony announced a boatload of indie games coming to its upcoming console, the PlayStation 4.

Leading the pack is Bastion developer Supergiant Games' sci-fi mystery Transistor, which is now set for early 2014.

Elsewhere, Abe's Oddysee New 'n' Tasty, the latest in the cult series Oddworld, is heading to PS4 as well.

Other confirmed PS4-bound indies include: Mark of the Ninja developer Klei's gothy roguelike Don't Starve; Scott Pilgrim vs. The World dev Tribute Games' 2D action platformer, Mercenary Kings; Young Horses' quirky physics-based family comedy Octodad; Switchblade Monkeys isometric western shooter, Secret Ponchos; and Skulls of the Shogun developer 17-bit's next project, Galaxy.

Aside from the Square Enix news, the amazing DRM smackdown, and the price, Sony's indie love just made me want to kiss them. That was beautiful.

Transistor looks fucking awesome. I couldn't really get into bastion but this seems like a big step forward.

I'll be hyped for these If / When the fitting ones are announced to be coming for Vita, or to be cross-buy. Especially if it's PSV/3/4 Crossbuy.

The fact they'll be given with PS+ is a great first step, however.

It's very cool to see these games will benefit from the Video-sharing features of "new" PSN, however. Merc. Kings and Transistor are 2 games I'm quite interested in, and there was something great about seeing such a spritework game as Mercenary Kings at a conference like this... (The Swordbros / Capy game might have been such, but everything is so CRAZY SMALL who can tell :( )

Was good to see 17-bit already on a new game too, as it took them SO LONG to get out Skulls of the Shogun...

So what exactly is stopping these games from also being playable on PS3, aside from Sony wanting there to be a big game line up for the PS4's early months? Mainly Abe's Oddysee HD.

You mean other than Supergiant actually needing to do the work for an additional port? No BC remember?

One of my favorite games of the show thus far. I loved Bastion so much. The art and music in this game, goddamn.

Loved the whole indie part of the Sony conference.

Seriously.

Sony Conference - "Here's this indie game, and this indie game, and this one, and that one, and this one, and that one, and this one, all being played right in front of you!"

Microsoft Conference - "We are SO committed to indie development! (shows Minecraft trailer) Well that's enough of that bullshit ..."

That batch was a highlight of the presentation. I didn't know much about Transistor or Octodad going in, so they were two of the more pleasant surprises of the entire day.

Below looked pretty cool from MS. Not convincing enough to sell me on that console though.

If we buy oddworld maybe the'll make a new one guys!

Simply ADORED Sony's indie focus. People wanted PS4 big guns AAA modern crap, but to me this was the highlight. It's not that I don't think big budget games can't be great, it's that it's clear indies are where it's at for originality and off-the-cuff concepts, and seeing Sony give such hard support really makes me optimistic for what is in store.

I dont know if anyone has seen it, but Doki Doki Universe has a Ps Vita trailer out there, and its looks so fuckin cool imo. Also from some tweets I have read we could likely see more announcements tomarrow. Stewart Gilray was saying he could not say anything more about platforms until tomarrow, but expect New and Tasty on Vita.

Im excited for E3 finally!!!!

I don't think there's a dedicated thread for Transistor, but my god I get more and more excited every time I see that game. The art, the music! And the logo just gives me a great vibe, being reminiscent of the Bioshock one. Definitely in my top 5 for most anticipated. Especially after Bastion being one of my most transcendent gaming experiences this past gen; it had such a hold on me that I played it all in one sitting.

Female protagonist a definite plus in my book as well. Will definitely get the Steam version Day 0.

Was a nice surprise to see Greg Kasavin on stage.

If the soundtrack is as good as bastions then its already a day 1 for me.

The indie section of the show was great. MS really messed that part up with another minecraft outsourced port.

Really proud to have my brother's game, Secret Ponchos, up on stage for the Sony conference.

You guys should check it out if you can. It's totally rad.

What's that game from the people or guy that made Scott Pilgrim????

Mercenary Kings. Coming to PC too, I believe. Metal Slug-like Shooter, had a funding campaign not too long ago.

It was pretty cool looking. I'd be more hyped for it if I knew it was coming to more Sony platforms than just PS4 ;)

Besides Knack/Infamous it was the highlight of the show from a upcoming games perspective. Really showed a great breath of games, but I do wish there was more mid-tier titles like Doki Doki Universe that seem like they could offer tons of hours of gameplay. I wanted to see what the Super Stadust team was doing as well, but let's see what the show room floor holds.

I was sold on preordering the moment Sony had all those great indie devs on stage being introduced to the world. Such a great effort. I have to support the indie push from Sony.

Transistor was great at PAX East this year, so I'd say any prospective PS4 owners should be excited to get this one.

mark of ninja developers made don't starve?

What am I waiting for, instabuy.

Having all those indie guys on stage was awesome. One after another after another after another. And it was obvious some of them were giddy about being included in a huge conference like this, showing off their game to millions of people.

And it made me happy seeing Greg Kasavin on stage too. Love that guy.
